And as a 30y fag, I’m loving it.

Street Fighter II' Champion Edition on PC Engine is straight-up insane. Bazar de Gozarre is this adorable, fun little game I’ve been playing with my niece. Daimakaimura on SuperGrafx is an awesome port, maybe the best one out there. Last night I finally beat 46 Okunen Monogatari and holy shit, that game hit me hard. So many feelings, legit made me feel alive. Phenomenal RPG.
As a kid I always pictured NEC stuff as something for white-collar educated mfs. Not that I felt unworthy, just thought I should wait until I was “ready” to really appreciate it. Glad I did.
Now I’m torn on what to hit next: Dead of the Brain I & II or CRW Metal Jacket.
The dudes who got to enjoy NEC systems back in the day, in their high 20s to mid 30s? Lucky as fuck.

I just google it and it's a Game Freak game. How comes? I mean, Nintendo is their owner, why would they let Game Freak publish an exclusive game on PC Engine?

What about PC-88 and PC-6001 MkII?

They're not and they never have been.

The PC-88 is a bit of a split personality. Pre-refresh (so not the MkIISR with the synth and V2 graphics mode). I'd say it feels similar to an IBM PC that's getting micro ports, a lot of what I played from 1981-1984 are single screen (per level) action/arcade games with a few exceptions. After The MkIISR you'd see the line-up become similar to the PC-98 of that same time. To be fair, the PC-98 had a different type of line-up than what most people expect in those early years so it's likely a switch in developer interest as well.

The PC-6k feels similar to a European market micro. I've only played 4 games on it so don't take me for an expert. The only one I found decent yet is Lizard which is "just" a simple DRPG. Hitsuji Yai! suffers from slowdown (and is not exactly exclusive) and shortly after I played 5200 Gremlins which does that concept better.

Nintendo never owned Gamefreak. Gamefreak are glorified third-party developer bound to Nintendo through The Pokemon Company, but they are allowed to do whatever they want with their non-Pokemon titles.

Early 88 isn't too dissimilar from the 8001 MkII. It got a lot of support in Micom BASIC so you'll find lots of type ins for it.

As for 98 series, there's major differences between early and late 98 machines and I think most users around here just think about the late stuff since that's all they're familiar with.

It's from old Sony's Digital Heroes (デジタルヒーローズ) magazine, but idk when it was published. Should be around ~1993.

Trips Checked
My first experience was with Dragon Spirit: The New Legend on the NES and loved it! It was a Christmas gift back in the day. the PC Engine version is a huge step up. I did get my hands on the arcade version with PS2 Namco legends. I wish there was a way to play it with a rotated widescreen for the correct arcade perspective .

NES version to compare

NEC was just the manufacturer OP, Hudson designed it.

Why did they intentionally make every single wrong decision with this thing bros? It genuinely could have been a 2D powerhouse.
>>
>>12463813
Doesn’t matter how well it could do 2D, 3D was what everyone wanted and expected from a home console at the time. It was doomed from the start unless it included the 3D graphics chip that later found its way onto the PC-FXGA.

It's how the Sega CD should have been: Actual video games but with more content plus CD music, and not FMV slop

I had a big pce collection at one time though a lot of the games I had overlapped with the mini so I swapped out some of them. I still have my duo and miscellaneous hucards and cd's. I have thought about hacking the mini if that's possible so that I can have some of those nice translated games on the big screen. Funnily enough my most played pce game is probably the fan translation of Tower of Druaga. I've beaten that many times.
>>
>>12462184
Supergrafx was the most pointless piece of garbage ever. Same CPU, sound hardware, and colors as the original PCE, yet it cost about twice as much; all to access a sprawling library of seven games.
>>
>>12462193
>>12463923
When Konami released mini version of PC-FX?
>>
>>12469825
So what if Supergrafx get 89 USA retail release instead marketing as TG-16 revision?
>>
>>12463923
They wanted to sell it separately (possibly even multiple versions with increased capabilities over the original), that's why the PC-FX has a hidden slot on the bottom of the device. But the very poor sales scuppered their plans, and eventually they put the original batch in the PC-FXGA.
>>
>>12470951
That might’ve been alright if it came out in 1992 as intended. Releasing it after the Saturn and PlayStation with a higher price tag was a recipe for disaster, and they should’ve known at that point that 3D graphics were necessary at launch.
