Most people who claim to love SF, Marvel, or Darkstalkers suck once you out them on a pad or cab. I've noticed this since the 2010s shift. As a discrepancy you need to talk to people about other non Capcom series, then you find the people who can push buttons not just gush about which female fighters they cosplay as

There's a namefag (forgot the name but it was some edgelord shit) that shitposts on /vr/ fighting game threads, usually dicksucking mortal kombat and hating other fighters (mainly street fighter).
He had an habit of posting pictures of himself for some reason, and some guy called him a hapa version of Kevin Smith.

True. Also don't ever play anyone who's first game was SF4, they're posers

People play smash bros at parties not fighting games. The only girls who play fighting games are goth/metal chicks who only play MK and always play Mileena

Okay... am I supposed to care? Is that different from any other genre?
>>
>>12465542
>the only good fighting game is the one so different from other fighting games most people into that genre don't consider it one

Why do Smash fans think their opinion on fighters matters in any way?
>>
>>12465589
>its not a fighting game unless its a street fighter clone
why do FGC tryhards think their opinion on anything matters in any way?
>>
>>12465594
Because they actually like the genre in question. It's like saying Tomb Raider is the best RPG ever made and every other RPG is shit and then getting upset when RPG fans don't care because it's not even the same genre.

I don't even dislike Smash, but it's just such a weird attitude. They don't like fighting games in general, but they do like a party game with that shares a few similar elements and so they have to constantly insist it's the best fighting game there is. No Smash fan seems happy just enjoying the game they enjoy, they have to insist it's part of a genre they don't even like. But why? It just feels so insecure.

>comparing smash and fighting games to tomb raider and rpgs
oh no, it's retarded. well thankfully I can safely disregard the rest of this mentally ill coping.

Tomb Raider is as much of an RPG as Smash is a fighting game. You dislike every single game that defines a genre and insist that the one that removes complex timed move inputs, a static damage system and adds platforming, collecting items and a party set up of multiple characters all together is the only good one. You fully admit you don't like the genre as it's established, so why do you so desperately want the game you like to be included?

Why do you want Smash to be lumped into a genre of games you don't like? That's the crux of the question.
>>
>>12465630
>complex timed move inputs
melee has more complex and time sensitive inputs than SF slop, a quarter circle is not the end all be all of "complexity"
>static damage system
melee also has this
>collecting items and party set up
no one plays like this. Try again retard
>>
>"slop"-poster
Classic low quality post, worthy of a Kevin Smith thread.

Which Smash character has a move set more complex than pic related

>no one plays like this.

So not even Smash fans like the design of their own game and have to ignore aspects of it?

>SF slop

Again, you think Street Fighter, one of the games that defined the whole genre is "slop" so why do you want a game which is almost nothing like it or virtually any other major game to be lumped in together? Why is that the question you refuse to answer? That's what this is all about.

Beta faggots who don't play fighting games. Posers who weren't even born before the mid 90s so they have no actual memory of these games lol

Performative, limp-wristed counter argument.

So because some of the best examples of the genre are well recognized as such, saying they are good makes you normal? As opposed to being cool and abnormal because the only one you like is Killer Instinct or some shit?
>>
what are the first things I should learn about playing sf3 for someone who's never played sf? Ive go fightcade or whatever all set up but I now need to practice
>>
>>12467881
Are you wanting to just mess around in single player fighting the AI or do you plan to play other people? That's an important question on where to start. Also what other fighting games if any have you played?
>>
>>12467932
I know itll take a while but eventually playing other people is the goal. Only one Ive gotten really deep into was soul calibur
>>
>>12467969
Practice base execution till you can do the moves of whichever character you want to focus on first quickly without thought. Depending how much Soul Calibur you've played will determine how long that takes. Then spend time in single player on a hard difficulty not trying to win or even really attack at first, but just practicing parries and seeing how long you can stay alive. That's going to be the biggest hurdle, but it's essential if you want to hold your own against other people. After that just jump into the deep end and start playing multi-player versus. Your win record will suck at first, but it's by far the best and fastest way to learn.

Remember it's a game and to have fun. Look at loses as learning opportunities.
>>
>>12465684
nta but almost all of those inputs are just quarter circles/half circles Lol
>>
>>12470002
Which is why I said that depending on how much soul calibur he's played that will determine how long it takes. Might only take a few minutes, but it's the first place to start. I haven't played soul calibur in over 20 years so I don't remember how similar the timing is.
>>
>>12467750
Yes, good examples of a genre are bad.

>Often considered one of the most difficult characters to use in the series
>Most inputs are actually just a direction and a button
Lot more to it than just motions for inputs. Even in Capcom games stuff like painting the fence and shosho are just dp inputs done very fast and consistently in a short window, yet people drop them all the time if they don't get it down.
