What's the best way to play Kanto?
I just find the super gameboy version so nice to look at
Red(best exclusives and the mega expensive Porygon that costs significantly less on the gamecorner which is a big deal) with the hack that replaces the red and blue graphics for the graphics of the original japanese red and green(1996)If you're even considering the remake I recommend you drink bleach
there is genuinely no reason not to play a yellow 151 romhack. Fr/Lg patched out the fun glitches and sprites and yellow versioon let you have all 3 starters, on top of being faithful to the anime
>>12462493Depends what you're looking for.If you want extensive battle oriented post-game RBY because Stadium, if you just want to play the best version of Kanto with more content and areas then FRLG
>>12462510>let you have all 3 starters, on top of being faithful to the animeThis is not a good thing
Gen 1If you try to get a fuller party early (like 3-5 because a lot of good mons are pretty good even in Gen 1) it becomes a dungeon crawler with you constantly needing to switch in and out. The more you play, the more versatile your team plays. Gen 1 practically almost mon is viable due to TMs or moves you learn early. It's just a matter of favorites really which I find enjoyable. Gen 3 Kanto? Well that's a different experience. More tools available, more variety, in my opinion, less fun.
Gen1 kinda sucks because the meta is so obvious in that game. Literally everyone picks Bulbasaur and has a Snorlax + Lapras endgame. Shits so boring.
>>12462494This is how I see the game when I picture it in my head
>>12462493KANTOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
>>12462493i'm too attached to the original's quirks but the remake is fine. a true pokemon master plays both anyway.
>>12462595Most people only used Charizard doebeit
definitive uncslop
>>12462595just like later pokemon the game is much more fun if you dont use the free handout mons
>>>/vp/
>>12462518shut up, Oak
>>12462493you should play a different game
>>12462493Icompletely despise the Pokemon remakes for making everything sameier. Apparently some people like that, but fuck you, these games are formulaic as is, for one like being able to tell at a glance what game I'm playing.Blue's the shit btw, don't listen to smelly Red turds.
>>12462493Red, Blue, or Green (JP or EN) on a GBC. Yellow is gay. >>12462595>muh metahow about you play the game with the pokemon you like rather than what smogon dictates?
>>12462493Pokemon Red with colonization hack if you want the original experience. Firered is an overall upgrade to the original though

>>12463561wish shin used a proper recolor like this
>>12463537>Wanting to build a good team is badOkay
>>12462493top got more soul, bottom is a better game. play both, dont need to do it one after the another though.
>>12462494Eh not a fan of the border.
Either one and it's still in active development.
>>12464301>it's still in active development. Why would I start to play something knowing my saves might get corrupted by a new version?
>>12462671Blastoise is kino
>>12464301But they ain't GBC colorizedhttps://www.romhacking.net/hacks/8803/
>>12462493Unironically it's to be in 1999. Pokemon was, is and always will be a social game. You cannot replicate the breadth of the experience without that. Playing a ROM of any version almost 30 years later will still be fun because it's a fun game, but no hacked version or remake will ever replace the core of what made it so compelling.Such is life.
>>12462493LeafGreen + Bulbasaur as a starter
>>12462493PureRGB
>>12462493Check the moves of giovanni, the elite four and champion blue pokemons from both games and you'll instantly have your answer.
>>12462493Shitpost answer: Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee
>>12464581Yes it is. You toggle it in the options.
>>12462595Bulba is easy modeSquirtle normal difficulty Char hard mode
>>12464679If you want gen 1 authenticity, this guy is correct. If you'd like modern updates, you want FRLG+. It's "both games" in one, and you switch versions on the title screen. It also has lots of fun and challenge updates, depending on what you want.
>>12465115Squirtle is easy mode, because you get Bubble, and can use Mega Punch on Misty and Dig on Surge. Then for the majority of the game you have Surf/Ice Beam/Body Slam/Dig(and Bubblebeam until you have Surf). You can steamroll the entire game with ease, with Squirtle.Hell, Charizard is easier than Bulbasaur. Ember is more than strong enough to take out Brock, which is viable sooner than Bulbasaur getting Vine Whip. You get Dig/Mega Punch for Misty/Surge. Then you steamroll the game with Slash/Swords Dance/Flamethrower/Earthquake(or Dig).Venusaur, outside of Leech Seed+Toxic comboing or Sleep Powder spamming, only seems easy, when you just look at the early game typings. Bulbasaur has a terrible movepool in the game, and the best options are doing Leech Seed+Toxic or Sleep Powder spamming, then doing Swords Dance+Hyper Beam(which Charizard does better and would crit more often if you don't do Swords Dance setups too). Bulbasaur has a terrible attacking movepool, being stuck with a 2-turn Solar Beam or the weakass Razor Leaf. Which is why Swords Dance+Hyper Beam is a better option, sadly.I know retards will eternally say that Bulbasaur is easymode, and Charmander is hardmode, but it doesn't actually play out that way in practice. The Bulbasaur is easymode, and Charmander is hardmode, is just bad theorycrafting, that doesn't actually look into anything but the typing of the early game gym battles.
>>12462595That's literally never been my team. Bulbasaur is my least picked because grasstypes are boring and even though I always mean to use Lapras there's so many water choices and I rarely do silph first.
>>12465204I feel like I wrote this post in the past and you copy-pasta it, but no. This is exactly right.
>>12464679Nah, the author of PureRGB was an asshat to me on Discord. I'm not playing your romhack.
>>12465371deetz?
>>12465362I'm sure you have wrote something similar. I'm not saying something original. You used your brain and realized that the dumb talking points were dumb.
>>12463656you already did that as a 10yo. Now a team consisting of Porygon, Jynx, Parasect, Farfetch'd, Golking and Marowak is based
>>12465373He was an asshat to the dev and dev was an asshat back.
>>12465548kek, get rekt hugbox romhackers
>>12462493fire red omega, or shin pokemon red if you want 8 bit graphics
>>12464679Fucking hideousRomhackers can't color for shit
>>12465643>Romhackers can't color for shitBut anon, what else am I gonna use for my youtube videos? Black & WHITE? This isn't the 1800's, grandpa.
>>12465204>know retards will eternally say that Bulbasaur is easymode, and Charmander is hardmode, but it doesn't actually play out that way in practice. The Bulbasaur is easymode, and Charmander is hardmode, is just bad theorycrafting, that doesn't actually look into anything but the typing of the early game gym battles.Seeing how to exploit the special stat or things like critical hits being tied to speed is part of why I find Gen 1 so fun. Realizing how effective Ember is against Brock's pokemon gives the mechanics a whole other dimension beyond looking for the most super effective movesGen 3 onward starts to feel far more standardized and the whole game gets crafted around what's most super effective and which stat is higher. It becomes super predictable. Almost every type gets their own version of hyperbeam or Thunderbolt. Gen 3 is stull rough because of the lack of physical.special split, but the special stat being divided is enough to ruin how exploitable some Pokemon were in Gen 1. And to be fair, there's some bonuses like Magneton being really cool to use because of typing and ability. But in many ways, the simplicity og gen 1 makes it fun to revisit and it's probably the only Pokemon game I would speedrun, because the fun of it is making matches that should've work because of level gaps or typing end up working. It's not a hard game, but managing to beat the E4 with a team under 45 is fun.
>>12465643>>12465643You anons might be retarded
>>12466980it looks bad anon.
>>12462493Fuck that. What is the best way to replay Hoenn if you don't want vanilla or the R/S remakes? I tried to go for romhacks but they add too much stuff when the most I'd want is the phys/spec split.Should I stick to the old Drayano hacks?
>>12466980You have shit eyes
>>12462493LGPE of course.
>>12469374>wants to play a version where Sceptile is shitNGMI

>>12462498>Red(Porygon that costs significantly less on the gamecorner)You got it backwards.Porygon is cheaper in Blue by about 3000 coins.
>>12469374>muh physical/special splitOh look, another retro games """fan""" who actually just wants to LARP off aesthetics and vibes and is upset when the gameplay doesn't consist of the same homogenized, (((Quality of Life))) slop as the modern product.
>>12462595This was my team, but I never met anyone that did this as well. I knew very few people who picked bulbasaur. Lapras was redundant for squirtle pickers. Snorlax for sure made it on a lot of teams though.
