When playing first time how important was seeing the story compared to just finding the next zombie to shoot?

When playing the first time, after the third or so zombie, you'd probably say "holy shit these take so many bullets" and then you'd realize you have almost no ammo left. Then you'd start trying to avoid them for a while.

Mind you, thinking as a first timer.

Of course, as well, the mystery of the game and the story are also big motivators.

Probably solving puzzles, finding out the story, killing zombies, in that order. As another anon suggested, it was less about killing the zombies, rather about figuring out the best way to stay alive, strategically killing zombies and making sure you have enough health items. Don't get me wrong, blowing off a zombie's head is fun, and it's satisfying to know you've cleared a room and won't have to dodge anything next time you go in, but the combat mechanics themselves weren't the best thing about RE.

the story as presented thru the cutscenes was pretty barebones. you run into wesker what like one time before the final area? i did enjoy reading the files the scientists had wrote though. "itchy tasty" was always the standout. this game to me was always more about atmosphere than the story itself.

I just got fucked after exploring the basement. First killed the snake, then fall down the basement. Explored until I couldn't carry any more items and while I travel to a safe room I get rekt by two hunters at the same time. An hour down the drain FUCKK

First time playing this game i was too accustomed to slasher games like clock tower.
So i just ran 90% of the game, exploited loading zones and only fought essential enemies .
I was so confused as to why people were struggling with ammo.

Funnily enough, Silent Hill, which supposedly feels more like a survival horror, showers you with bullets and healing items.
The atmosphere is great tho. Much better than RE.
