I was with a friend and we got to talking about old game box descriptions. He swears there was something on a Mario game or the NES box itself that said "Video games have never been so realistic", but when we tried to look for it, we came up with nothing. I saw the US Control Deck box had this written on the back, but nothing close to what he was saying. Anybody remember a game that made mention of it being realistic or your own memories of overhyped descriptions on the back of older games?
what was the "high resolution" here?
>>12466276So none of these were embellishments. They are compared to PCs and other consoles at the time which would cheat with lower resolution graphics modes. There were also 3D games for the NES that also included 3D glasses. PicrelThe realists is that some marketing people got their hands on the spec sheet for the NES and compared it to the competition and hosted about what was better and ignored what wasn’t
>>12466285I don't even remember resolution being mentioned at the time. Into the 00s everything was "high definition", but games were 'cutting edge' I guess
>>12466285Mega Man's bulge
>>12466276>astounding 52 colorsBut the Atari 2600 had 128 colors
>>12466502>128 simultaneous (2 sprite colors [1 color per sprite] and 2 background/ball colors per scanline)
>>12466291It's still an embellishment. I wouldn't call that realistic by any stretch even for the time when vector rendering was a thing.
>>12466285>>12466293It really just meant that the graphics were better than what you'd normally see. Some NES games could be fucking ugly, and that's regardless of their release date or developer.
>>12466581I'm surprised Athena even got a US release. At least the Famicom version came with a cassette tape with the Psycho Soldier theme song
>>12466285I've always thought they were talking about the sprites and the fact that they are quite big (compared to the first era of NES/FC games).

>>12469637>NES/SNES: 256x224>Genesis: 320x224 Seems like it's high definition compared to the SNES to me
>>12469637Not really. The graphics were mind-blowing and the Super Nintendo wouldn't come out until 2 years later.
