>ripping off dungeons and dragons high fantasy>none of their own samurai or yakuza slop>stole RPG mechanics from American devs from the 1980s>symphonic music inspired by western composers, not Japanese composersThe more I learn about Japanese developers the more shameless it all becomes. They never invented any of it, 100 % of it was just ripping off Americans.
This is what happens when you don't pay attention in history class. If you had, you would already know Japan has been Westaboos since the 1950's. Look at isekai anime, it's almost always about some JP dude getting dropped into a typical European fantasy book scene with European-looking knights and swords.
>>12469028Tolkien was British, his high fantasy works were inspired by European folklore. Symphonic music is European in origin. Why did Americans steal these for their games?
>>12469028>a 12 year old learns about the world for the first time and has a tantrumOkay
>>12469028you forgot this guy mr shitposter
>>12469028Final Fantasy always wore its DnD influence on its sleeves. It was always meant to appeal to Japanese DnD fans.
Japanese actually enjoy playing blobbers with controllers on consoles, yet they decided to simplify it anyway with the now-standard JRPG formula. Strange.
>>12469085/threadAmerican equivalent to high fantasy would be the wild west and that's less frequent in games than feudal japan
>>12469234Wizardry lasted a lot longer in Japan than elsewhere.
>>12469469Not really the Wild West but Fallout New Vegas shows that cowboys and the Western US open ranges still hold a place in the soul of American males.
>>12469028And Americans stole it all from the English and the Germans and the Hungarians. Did you have a point, tepid little insecure loser?
>>12469028You can't blame a culture for "ripping off" another culture to any greater degree than you can blame an individual for "ripping off" another one, and every single piece of media ever made is influenced or inspired or copied from something, so it's an asinine game to play.>jApaN rIpPeD oFf aMeRiCa [because richard garriot made a popular game that inspired yuji horii]and richard garriot ripped off gary gygax and gary gygax ripped off dave arneson and dave arneson ripped off jrr tolkien and jrr tolkien ripped off beowulf + william morris and william morris ripped off john ruskin and john ruskin ripped off carlyle and wordsworth etc etc etcBasically, you're retarded.
If FF1 had been about ninjas and Samurai with old Japanese tropes and traditional Japanese music, then Square would have died off within a year or two.
in ultima IV, three of the important key items to win the game are the bell, book, and candle. these items are a reference to a catholic excommunication ritual. this is also referenced as the title of "Bell, Book, and Candle", a 1950s romantic comedy film about a man who marries a witch. This movie was later adapted as the television show "Bewitched".every jrpg is like only 3 degrees of separation from Bewitched
>>12469028Name one non-ironic, non-sarcastic thing that makes you happy, anon. I bet you can't.
The modernist art movements in the west (like 1870 to 1950 give or take) copied Japanese art after it opened up during the Meiji period. You could probably find a way to stretch that to being related to video games idk just spitballing here.
>>12469686I kinda want an FF1 with ninjas and samurai and sheeit
>>12469028so then why cant/doesnt the west release an actually good rpg? Im still waiting.
>>12470453weed, meth, opiates
>>12470696The best you get is Dragon Quest with Samurai.https://www.mobygames.com/game/13556/musashi-no-boken/screenshots/

>>12469028>ripping off dungeons and dragons high fantasyuhm achtually it is ripping off Ultima specifically which ripped off dungeons and dragons high fantasy>none of their own samurai or yakuza slopmusashi no bouken, ganbare goemon gaiden, ninja jajaMaru, inindo, far Esst of eden, and if you count it ultima gaiden 4 and smt. though Im guessing you aren't really interested in any of that considering you called it slop.>stole RPG mechanics from American devs from the 1980syeah and simplified them for the nes, making it actually palatable which then led to their own subgenre of rpgs to build off of. are you going to throw a fit because the british by your definition ripped off americans with ultima?>symphonic music inspired by western composers, not Japanese composersi don't get this. the music was composed by japanese people therefore it is japanese composition. im being facetious i know but if music was made to sound like japanese instruments in a european style fantasy game it would be considered jarring.
>>12470934correction, i meant that the americans ripped off the british with ultima since it by extension was inspired by dungeons and dragons which was inspired by tolkein.
>>12469082Actually it was the 1860s
>>12469669I wish I could say only leftists complain about cultural appropriation but I unfortunately the average right wing wop will chew your head off for making pizza or coffee in a way they don't like and then bitch about you being "racist" to them.
What else are they supposed to make their games about? Japan has nothing to tell. All samurai did was abuse and murder peasants while groveling under their daimyo, who could, and would, utterly fuck them and their whole household over, over absolute trifles. Showed up with a precisely sauced kimono stain you didn't notice? Well say goodbye to your 800 koku stipend! Didn't grovel hard enough? Bam, te-uchi to the neck! Farmers just toiled in the waterlogged rice fields until they died from some foot worm infection or malnutrition. Their folk hero musashit was literally just a murder hobo who only "fought" low skilled people, and even those, he oftentimes ambushed or otherwise put into disadvantageous situations.
are you new to japanese media? it's literally western mythos/culture BUT JAPAN.
>>12470981All of these are characteristics of Europe and European knights as well. The only difference is that Japan was uniquely a military dictatorship up to the modern period where these samurai placed themselves in the highest rungs of society. Don't be mistaken. The Meiji era was incredibly successful for this very reason as much as much as the Victorian era was for England and just like with the Victorian era, everything you mentioned was torn down and criticized heavily in order to prop up Imperial restoration and modernization. Of course there were a few stragglers but only extreme conservatives after the Meiji era thought that the samurai weren't mostly power hungry savages. Those like Toyotomi Hideyoshi did only so much to detract from this. Only Really the big cultural difference is that here you don't have much of a separation as you do in Europe.
>>12469028>Dungeons and Dragons is made, becomes globally popular.>Video games start to evolve from video tennis clones, and games inspired by D&D begin to establish themselves.>Devs in Country A who like D&D make a game based on concepts from D&D>Devs in Country B who like D&D make a game based on concepts from D&D>Devs in Country C who like D&D make a game based on concepts from D&D>nearly half a century later a literal-who faggot on /vr/ cries that people who liked D&D made a game based on ideas from the game they enjoyed1) D&D is American. High fantasy, classical music, etc are European. Why did Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson steal European culture for their game?2) D&D borrowed ideas from other games and from fantasy literature, it's not as original as you seem to think it is. It's a mish-mash of ideas.3) D&D was popular in Japan but Sword World RPG was much bigger in the end.4) FF plays quite differently than the games you're claiming they stole from5) literally every American dev today steals mechanics from Super Mario 64 and Ocarina of TimeTry again
>>12470750>Bard's Tale>Wasteland>Wizardry>Ultima>Might and Magic>Gold Box D&D>Fallout>Baldur's GateThere are tons of great Western RPG series
>>12471306By "good RPG" he means "JRPG". If that's the only kind of RPG someone likes then of course they're going to think there are no good western ones.
>>12471306Those are all shit except Wizardry, weird you left out Morrowind and Oblivion that shit all over those
>>12471030You had a decent post going why did you ruin it with the retarded comment about Ocarina of Time? Guess in the end you're just as retarded as everyone else.
Mother has some samurai looking enemies during the end game
>>12471306Those games are hard to compared with the big JRPGs. They are lower budget janky crpgs with great ideas (many of which were adopted by jrpgs). And they all died out ~25 years ago. Basically Elder Scrolls and Fallout are the only franchises that survived. The JRPG franchises, meanwhile, all got major releases atba reasonably consistent rate.
>>12469028They're japs, they do that with everything.Disney pioneered animation 40 years before any anime existed.
