>kills the Castlevania franchise forever
>>12469305Odd.I wouldn’t thought that was Castlevania 64 which I thought was terrible at the time but have now decided was the most brilliant experiment every attempted by Konami.
>Kills OP's brain forever
*keeps Castlevania relevant for the rest of gaming history*
>>12469309You got it backwards, SotN was the weird experiment while 64 tried to be faithful to Classicvania's essence.
>>12469607>while 64 tried to be faithful to Classicvania's essence.>no musicHuh?
>>12469617At least make it to the second area before spouting nonsense.
>>12469632Youre asking for a lot
>>12469305It got three successful games on the GBA, and on the DS, two PS2 games, and Iga went on to create Bloodstained (and a sequel is coming out) which got two gaiden games, and it also popularized, if not invented, the metroidvania genre which gets several games every year to this day.SOTN is one of the most influential games in history.
>>12469305Castlevania wasn't good until SotN. Yes I've played and beaten RoB.
>>12469653>and a sequel is coming outI hate that I recognized the trailer as being a Bloodstained game immediately by the fact that it looks just as ugly as the original Bloodstained.
>>12469718Bloodlines was good
>>12469718/thread
>>12469305>Bots, trannies, TDS and Schizoids>Kills the entire website forever
>>12469653>Ruins the Metroidvania genre Forever
>>12470006I don't really care for Hollow Knight, but I don't hate it. The fanbase is something else, though. The consequence of its popularity is that many of the indie MVs seem to ape it instead of the Igavanias. Besides the Team Ladybug stuff (that's unfortunately piss easy), most MVs are more like HK clones, grimdark Blasphemous wannabes, or Celeste with swords. They just don't hit right.
>>12469305yeah, i see where you're coming from. when you make one of the best games ever made, there's no hope of ever living up to it. you just can't top perfection.
>>12470030SotN has some of the worst boss fights in the series. You don't even need one of the broken weapons to easily kill most of them. Still better than SCIV or CotM, though.
>>12470042Both of these games are better.
>>12470042bosses are the weakest point of every castlevania game. but the moment-to moment gameplay is some of the best of any game. the movement has never been topped, or even approached.
>>12469305It was pretty much dead at that time, it just gave it a new direction.
>>12470051It's not appreciably better than the followups. You can absolutely trivialize the boss encounters in SotN without even trying to. They're also just... not very impressive. I love the atmosphere of SotN, but it plays as you would expect the first game of its type to play. Aria of Sorrow was a better game only hampered by its platform. I still enjoy both of them.>>12470049Never got the appeal of SCIV. It probably didn't help that I played Bloodlines and Rondo before I got to it. CotM was a bitch to play on the GBA due to the palette. Didn't care for all the lack of original music. Clunky. Lack of animation. Card system was a neat concept.
>>12470029I didn't hate it until Silksong but after playing it through once, which I will never do again: FUCK everyone at Team Cherry. Those fucking assholes took a well made game and overtuned it until it was the most intentionally frustrating slap in face I think I've ever encountered. I have never played a game I was so sure was made by people who hated their customer base. It' was just sadism by the end. I want nothing do with that IP or that company any more. If that's how you're doing things from now on you can suck my dick
>>12470068>Never got the appeal of SCIV. It probably didn't help that I played Bloodlines and Rondo before I got to it.Cool, still better than SotN and actually poses a threat unlike Rondo and JP Bloodlines. Also weird remark to make given it came out a couple of years earlier.>CotM was a bitch to play on the GBA due to the palette.Play it on a SP model then, it looks the best out of the three in that one.>Didn't care for all the lack of original music. You missed new songs like Awake, Proof of Blood or Repose of Souls, plus the arrangements are pretty nicely done.>Clunky. Lack of animation.Just for the running animation. It makes up elsewhere and has Beartank.
>>12470129It's not like the games materialized into my hands when they released. I didn't own an SNES until it was practically end of life. It was sometime in the late '90s when I managed to get a copy of Rondo and SCIV. Played Bloodlines when it was new.
>>12470119Not sure if shitpost or real but he thinks it's shitpost
>>12470029Doesn't help that Timespinner was such a cringe soapbox for the creators to bitch about how they hated the orange man, plus it was short, which is sad because aside from the cringe unlikable lead, the millennial writing and the pandering, it felt like if Squaresoft in the 90s made AotN instead of Konami in it's graphics and design.
>>12470029What do you think the SOULSLIKE complain is a thing.
>>124697183, 4, Rondo and Bloodlines were good but if the series had ended there it would just be a cult classic series people mention to mine internet cred
>>12470006Though a good game its faults are fucking horrifying.
>>12469305Killed? Or made better?
>>12469305
this flopped back then and they only made sequels on handheld. you can't blame sotn for anything
>>12472373It only did poorly at release. It did well enough to become a Greatest Hits title down the line.
>>12469653>sotn invented metroidvanias>not metroid, the game sotn blatantly rips off and adds nothing to.
>>12470051>sotn movement hasn't been toppedso I see you've never even attempted a game in this genre besides igaslop.
>>12470119love all of you skill issue retards blatantly outing yourselves. There is nothing in silksong that requires more than a handful of tries if you arent a blatant fucking retard. and then the game even gives you easy mode tools to trivialize encounters for babies like you, but you're still too fucking dumb to realize it. based team cherry for BTFO casual losers like yourself.
every 2d metroid and every classicvania is better than any igavania trash.
>>12470591Such as, no seriously, such, as?
>>12469305If Nintendo won't make a new Super Metroid, might as well. And in hindsight Iga's games were far better than what Nintendo were putting out on GBA.
Alucard's backslide saved video games
>>12472412>The fast travel system needing a droppable currency in a fairly difficult game.>Some save points also needing them>Dead ends at the end of long paths that need certain items to progress, be it mobility or key>Backtracking and exploration not having any real reward if it doesn't lead to said items>Far, far too open far too early, which causes the problems of the past two points>This is pretty >opinion but I really don't like the "update map at benches" thing.>Upgrading your weapons is a very annoying detour. At least in most metroidvanias you would gain EXP and items as you explore, HK has no such concept, so exploration just puts time between you and the movement upgrade you're seeking. I did complete it eventually but the earlygame exploration almost killed my interest in it.
>>12472483
>>12470029man i love Blasphemous, but the sequel sucks
>>12470029>>12470119Skill issue.
>>12470049CotM is not better than SotN in any universe
>>12469305The series ended in 2009, when it stopped being developed in Japan, simple as, there is no other objective metric regarding this particular matter, your tastes are shit.
>>12474403It is in the universe where actual games are considered better.>The series ended in 2009, when it stopped being developed in JapanActually when KCET took over. We simply got something else.
>>12474836CoTM is a grindy slog with barely any original music and Nathan feels like shit to play. The bosses also suck, giant healthpools doesnt equal good.>muh card system!Cool, SoTN mogs it everywhere else. Doesn't even beat out the other GBA games so I dont know why you'd even attempt to put it anywhere close
>>12469752>looks just as ugly as the original BloodstainedWhat's ugly about it? I wasn't a fan of the lava caves and ice caves since they were so generic and forgettable, but everything else was nice.
>>12474895Wrong, git gud.
>>12474917Not that guy, but everything about it looks like low-poly and plastic-y without strong texturework or art direction to make up for it. Hard to explain what exactly's wrong with the graphics that cause it to feel that way though
>>12469752>>12469653I'm way more excited about BS2 than the new Netflixvania game desuI can't complain about the visuals when my favorite igavanias were full of rehashed sprites from the 90's
>>12474334I don't recall saying anything about gameplay being difficult besides saying certain games were too easy, Anon. I didn't care for Hollow Knight (which I assume is what triggered you) not because I had an issue with the gameplay itself. I simply didn't enjoy playing it. I don't find MVs particularly difficult compared to other genres I play. I like Igavanias in particular for having all kinds of enemies and weapons pulled from myths and legends from different cultures, and putting their own spin on them. I also love Michiru Amane's music. I can't get those things in other MVs, just Castlevania. And Bloodstained. Which was okay.
>>12474334Discarded, No Really, your post is Discarded, nobody cares anymore.
>>12469607>experimentlol no SotN wasn't an experiment, it was an attempt to "re-do" Simon's Quest, but not fuck it up this time.>still had localization translation problems, fortunately they were more meme-worthy.Do you fucking research before you talk, retard.
>>12475556>lol no SotN wasn't an experimentNigga, IGA said SotN was conceived as an spin-off and how that's the entire reason it was "allowed to be so different from the series norm".>it was an attempt to "re-do" Simon's Quest, but not fuck it up this time. That's actually CV64. There's a lot of CV2's DNA in there mechanically such as the day/night cycle, interacting with NPCs, finding items for progression, non-linear elements, etc.>Do you fucking research before you talk, retard.Who the fuck were you quoting there, ranjesh.
>>12469305People who post low resolution images should be shot
>>12469357Castlevania hasn't been relevant since 1998.
>>12472486>fairly difficult gameI swear people played a different game than I did. Doing the DLC stuff and the coliseum sure, that's hard. The main campaign though? It's not any harder than any /vr/ platformer. Easier in fact. Silksong is harder, but fair. Maybe people got spoiled from Metroid games and Igavanias being fairly easy.>Far, far too open far too early, which causes the problems of the past two pointsThat's not a problem. Getting lost and being able to take many different paths is part of the point of the genre.>At least in most metroidvanias you would gain EXP and items as you exploreI think it's supposed to be more metroid than vania. No EXP in metroid.
the problem with classicvanias is that they're too shortif castlevania kept going that way it would've ended up like mega man (dead)
>>12475889>Didn't actually address the criticism of the game massively wasting your timeThat's why the game being open early on sucks, because there's no reason for it to be open as it is; it's actually secretly wasting your time and not telling you it is
Why are CotMfags so delusional?
>>12477063Exploration is fun.Playing a game for the sake of playing it is fun.
