The game that ended the DOOM era of First-Person Shooters.
>>12469741OP here. Wrong game.
>>12469761Sorry about that, posted the wrong pic by accident.
>>12469741it's an elaborate quake mod, kind of a sad showcase for '98
>>12469768Whoops, my bad.
>>12469761I've never played Unreal.
>>12469773
>>12469741good, looking for red, blue and yellow cards has gotten stale at that point
>>12469741Yeah, GoldenEye was dope.
>>12469741Did it? "boomer shooters" genre is still very much alive. If anything it's livelier than ever.
>>12469741The game that ended vidya as a small creative and free industry you meanEverything became homogenous after HL1
>>12469768I remember some magazines and at least one person I knew, a friend's dad, were raving about Descent's 6DOF, touting it as the next step up from Doom's limited 3D.
>>12469741It's still the DOOM era of First-Person Shooters
>>12469741ok now let's compare the amount of custom maps that were made for both games just in 2026.as a matter of fact, Doom still mogs any FPS, let alone in this thread in that regard.
>>12470137>The game that ended vidya as a small creative and free industry you meanThat era was already over by the mid-1980s.
>>12470137Right, because the onslaught of copycats of Doom and Final Fantasy were just the EPITOME of creative and free.
>>12470276Call in the "gameplay density" brigade to refute this fellow /vr/oomerCannot change the game m8, must follow developer's intentions. You've been fined 500 internets and added 5 cringe points to your profile.
>>12470330
>>12469741Worst game I've ever had the displeasure of playing.
>>12469741I'll end your DOOM era by mauling you with a hacksaw. Circle strafe my 360° arc swings, nooby.
>>12469761I was surprised when I first learned Unreal came out first
>>12470327There where lots of creative attempts on doom clones even back then
>>12470473and half-life was one of them. your point?
>>12469741Nah, that was Goldeneye. HL was the final nail in the coffin
>>12469741Some of the Blood and overall Build games levels were already connected Half-Life way. The maze-like key searching bs was already dying out. >>12470276But more people make "Half-Life-like" contents for doom source ports nowadays than core doom stuff. There's even a wad that turns doom into Half-Life.
>>12469741Buddy of mine played it when it came out.Really cool game with some interesting level designs but not to my liking. I prefer arcade-y & minimalist 3D games. Build engine games are sweet too.The annoying thing are most often not the games
>>12470137Seconding this - the game itself was good(besides the main character) but the message it, indirectly, sent sucked.
>>12469761Wasn't it still find the key that works in level and go to finish?
>>12469741The fake 3D era ended a fair bit before then, you had stuff like Sin long before Half Life. It was the launch of the PS1 and Saturn that made Doom seem old. Duke 3D was a bit of an exception since it had a lot of stuff that made up for the 2.5D. I personally liked older style games as they ran faster.>>12470276A lot of the new maps need engines so modified that start to think how much doom is still even in there anymore. Just that I like it if more worked in actual dos. Personally I use Boom.
>>12469761Not a contender - nice bait
>>12471025>"Half-Life-like"lol no
>>12472160Fine. Half-Like.
>>12470325Gaming PEAKED at Tetris.
>>12469741It was shit
>>12469741>>12469761Unreal, quake 2, goldeneye and sin show the genre was in transition. I played sin and thought it was a ps2 era game.
The game that ENDED OP's stinky anus!
>>12472393lol. lmao evenHalf-Like was never a thing, unlike Doom-Like or Doom clone. that's right, nobody cares about Half-Dead aside from Source nerds. not even Valve
>>12469741Never liked it even back then, FPS should have never stopped being about action first, this cinematic big brain bullshit just opened the floodgates for what would eventually become walking simulators
>>12475658>nobody cares about Half-Dead aside from Source nerds. not even ValveSimply not true. Every shooter of the 2000s copied its formula. The entire decade was influenced by Half-Life.
>>12476714and replaced it. SAD!
>>12469741Whoops, wrong picture.
>>12472417The fuck?!
>>12475702>this cinematic big brain bullshitWTF dude?
