Gaming historians... when was he first called "the Blue Bomber"?
Nintendo Power
I was literally gonna make a thread today about video game mascot nicknames today and bring up "the blue bomber", and also about how dumb Sonic's "the blue blur" nickname is. Possibly only exists because "blur ball" would be easy to make fun of Turn the CIA mind reading rays OFF

I'm more interested in knowing how the Japanese came to use 'bomber' in a way that seems to have such positive connotations. Like they don't seem to use the term in a way that implies someone is actually going around blowing shit up in underhanded ways, instead it seems to almost always refer to energetic boys/young men who go around doing miscellaneous shit themselves.I have no idea why this came to be so.

>>12470637I have seen Sonic referred to as the blue bomber more in official media than i have blue blur.
>THE BLUE BOMBER!I hate Mega Man... he ruins... everything.
>>12470645 I always figured the Blue Bomber thing came from American boxing nicknames. Prior to the association with terrorism, the word Bomber was more associated with powerful aircraft used by the American military. In Rock ‘em Sock ‘em robots, the blue robot was also called the Blue Bomber for example.
