I fucking loved this game growing up. Why is it viewed as one of the lesser Kirby games?
No Sakurai
people nowadays have grown too accustomed to the newer games having kirby move at the speed limit, and when they play shimomura's kirby games they freak out at kirby walking at a natural pace.kirby being slower is probably the only negative thing about the game i have heard that people actually seem to talk about. everything else, they seem to be pulling out of their asses to try and make it seem worse.
>>12471207It's the typical terminally online autist complaint of >waaaahhhh 100% is too hard/boring/tedious/requires a guideThey force themselves to go for 100% then bitch about it. 100% is meant for superfans who want to bleed every ounce of gameplay out of it, it really doesn't matter for overwhelming vast majority of people.
>>12471207Viewed by who? There’s no committee that ranks the Kirby games. Very few people even on bords like this even give a shit. Where are you making up this consensus from? I thought it was a good continuation of the series and it wasn’t a bad choice for the series to stay 2d when everyone else was going 3d. It’s as good as any of the other platforming Kirby games on the GB, NES and SNES. As always with classic Kirby, it was very easy, pretty short, but a fun time for a few hours. The game feels similar to Klonoa on PS but I’d say Klonoa was slightly better. The Sega equivalent might be Astal, which is also a pretty good game. But Astal is a bit older than these two, I can’t think of a Dreamcast game that competed in the same kid-friendly 2d platformer niche. It’s probably the third best 2d platformer on the n64 (after Mischief Makers and Goemon’s Great Adventure), but N64 was a shit system for 2d platformers. To be fair, Sony and Sega weren’t putting out a ton of great traditional platformers at the time either.
>>12471207slow, less moves, lame powers...
>>12471241Klonoa is boring as fuck. Kirby 64 has better aesthetics, music, moveset, boss design, and charm/atmosphere.
>>12471231Kirby in Dream Land 1 moved faster than he does in this game, and he had no abilities or even running. And for some inexplicable reason, this is the only game where Kirby can't float indefinitely (he deflates and falls after a few seconds).Aside from that, it's the usual Shimomura complaints of locking the ending behind collecting all the MacGuffins and the combo powers (now two powers instead of one power+an animal mount) being too inconsistent in use beyond puzzle-solving.
>>12471207Why is it so completely devoid of challenge? Being for babies isn't an excuse, kids deserve good games too.
>>12471259>waahhhhh I have to work for muh optional 30 second true 100% endingNo one fucking cares
>>12471259>>12471265It's in line for 64 games to waste your time for superficial "content." That's just what you can expect when playing games on the console.
>>12471262Why does something have to be hard to be fun for you?
>>12471269Oh no this is really what you think?
I haven't played it since it came out, but I remember it being really linear and slow. In previous Kirbys sometimes you had options of where to go. But I seem to remember Crystal Shards just being a scenic jaunt along a completely straight path. It looked cool in a way but it wasn't what I'd call a lot of fun or engaging.
I really liked the gunstar-style ability combos
>>12471262It's only devoid of challenge because Kirby has too much health. Same goes for most Kirby games, there could be challenge if there were less health.
>>12471340I was thinking the same thing. A mode or romhack that reduces health to one third would do wonders as the foundation is solid
>>12471340Most of that stems from the fact that Kirby has a slow response time to most inputs and so he gets clobbered by enemies and attacks easily.
>>12471352Adding on to this, while it's most glaring in K64, it's a series-wide problem. All that health is basically only there to offset all the "unavoidable" hits Kirby takes.
>>12471207whereismetaknight/10
>>12471356I noticed Dream Land 3 feels very sluggish. 10 frames before Kirby moves a single pixel forward from still. If he's facing the opposite direction it's 16 frames. This is just the frames of animation, so if you have a laggy setup (like playing it on NSO), it will be significantly more probably.
>>12471372Still recovering from being retconned into having always been evil back in Super Star.
>>12471207its the best kirby game
>>12471251glad Im not the only one who feels this way. Do not get the klonoa hype at all. Pretty sure no one would care if it was a 64 or saturn game.
>>12471227Did he really have no part in the game?
>>12471486The only Kirby games he ever was a part of making were Dream Land 1, Adventure, Super Star, and Air Ride.
>>12471207It's really short and simple, even for a Kirby game. The ability combinations are wildly unbalanced and most of them only exist for shard puzzles. It's a game that gets by on pure charm (the cast has never been so expressive and well characterized), if you're not into that there's little you can get out of it.
>>12471579He was supervisor for every game until Amazing Mirror
>>12471401>Do not get the klonoa hype at all.Furfags
>>12471820Maybe that's why I like it, the characters are extremely cute and I thought it was a nice breezy gameWhat are the good Kirby games then?
I like the power where kirby turns into fireworks
>>12471234Yeah, but if you don't get 100% they hit you with a shitty non-ending that totally deflates the satisfaction of beating the final boss. Why was that necessary? Why have a bad ending and a good ending? Why not have a good ending and a better ending?
>>12471820God I miss this Adeleine, she looks so weird in Star Allies
>>12472509Its too strong and easy to use.
>>12471207brainrotted retards who need constant overstimulation so the run speed bothers them.
>>12471820>It's really short and simple, even for a Kirby game.have you played the kirby games? The first one its beatable in 30 minutes by an infant.
This game has some weird feeling with its controls, it's hard to explain, but it's not as responsive as the rest of the games.
This is one of my favourite Kirby games. The only quibble I can think of is that the controls are kind of sluggish, but you can adjust to them quickly.
>>12471207Sakirby > ShimomirbyIt's too slow, too puzzle focused, and searching for all the crystal shards is tedious (as it is in every single Kirby game that features an item hunt).
>>12472505>What are the good Kirby games then?Kirby's Adventure is the best game in the series by a wide margin.
>>12474635>>12474653my favorite complaint is when someone plays a game on an emulator then gets upset that the controls are laggy. The call is coming from inside the house.
Say whatever you want about Kirby 64, I think we can all agree on one thing: The soundtrack is 10/10
>>12471820>The ability combinations are wildly unbalanced and most of them only exist for shard puzzles. Or, how about they look cool and are fun to use? I don't get you people.
>>12474909Most of them don't look cool and aren't fun to use, that's the problem.
As somebody who was a big Kirby fan before this game came out and who played it when it was new, I enjoyed it. My biggest complaint was, and is, that 3D, particularly N64 3D, didn't really capture the look and feel of Kirby's surreal atmosphere. I appreciate it more now than I did at the time, but I'd still say that it doesn't hold a candle to any of the preceding, or even the following, 2D Kirby games in terms of graphics.
>>12471207It's a fun Kirby game. People are going to instinctively try to find any reason they can think of to justify their dislike of it because of that. It's dumb. There are almost no bad kirby games, but very few people are willing to admit it. It's like they're allergic to having a genuinely good time while playing video games.
