Is it worth it to get my hands on one of these in 2026, or am I better off just emulating snes games these days?
>>
get the jap version
>>
>>12472000
Just avoid early production units with the SHVC board (these have a 1xxx serial number) because they're unreliable and the CPUs tend to shit themselves.
>>
>>12472026
is there an easy way to tell the difference?
>>
>>12472034
The serial number is on the bottom.
>>
>>12472026
afaik the actual issue wasn't the chipset but Nintendo cheaping out on power line filtering
>>
the middle ground would be getting one of these chinese replications. It's emulation, sure, but the overall tactile experience is the same.
And you get goodies like HDMI and maybe USB.

Not gonna post a pic here because i don't want to promote anything. Just throwing an idea.

SHVCs also have a separate sound board that gets loose sometimes and causes the console to lock up or fail to boot. Also why those are not recommended.
>>
>>12472065
what, like the classiq or something?
>>
>>12472000
if you want to play multiplayer it's worth getting a physical snes
>>
>>12472000
>console $100
>everdrive $60
>retro vision cables $70
>wireless controllers $30 x2

At under $300 it's one of the best deals in gaming for a legendary library.
>>
>>12472152
I saw one going for around 150 leafbux with two controllers, should I cop it?
>>
>>12472164
Truthfully, I'd get a Super Famicom instead if you can
>>
>>12472164
Get an SNS101 and mod it to output RGB. Try to find one with the engraved controller, it's better.
>>
>>12472152
An sd2snes/FX Pak costs WAYY more than $60. Also you can get a Super Famicom for like $20 and it's functionally identical.
>>
>>12472230
>>12472152
you should have been there in the early 00s when Gamestops were giving them away for $20
>>
>>12472000
Depends on how you like to game. The console is definitely worth it regardless of if you stick with just emulation or not. Owning physical hardware is up to you.
>>
>>12472000
The most important question, do you have a CRT? Because unless you have a CRT real hardware is pointless.
>>
>>12472000
if you want it, it's worth it
if you don't it's not
SNES emulation is quite good so either way is probably fine unless you're one of those people who emulate with extremely bad display settings
>>
>>12472650
sadly I don't, I can't find a good one locally
>>
>>12472687
Then there is no point having real hardware. The CRT is actually far more important than the console. As in, Emulator + CRT is actually more authentic than Console + LCD. Given how bad modern displays are at taking input from classic consoles, Console + LCD actually ranks bottom, even below Emulator + LCD.

SNES power bricks occasionally need repairs because they have a large filter cap in them with long legs and the legs often get loose and cause an open circuit so it won't work. Sometimes jostling the brick around will push the leg back into place and reestablish a connection. You can get a new cap and replace it to fix this issue.

>this piece of authentic original hardware isn't authentic according to autistic crt anons
>>
I have a GPM-02 probably the best model of SNES as it doesn't have the reliability issues of early units and it's still the two chip hardware while one chip units have slightly different behavior that can affect games.

>guys look at the exception, it disproves the rule

>Then there is no point
in coping. But you poor babies will spend your whole "lives" doing it. So sad.
