Throwback to the Retro Game Gauntlet, gentlemen. This used to be a thing back in the days, pre-/vr/ but it's been forever so let's have a runbackStart at NES, and work through in the following order:NESMaster SystemGB/GBCSNESMegadrive/GenesisGame GearTurbografx16DOSNeoGeoGBACommodore AmigaSega SaturnPlayStation 1Nintendo 64You have three days to complete the game without assistance (each game gets three days, though RPGs are allowed a week due to length).Select your system here:https://woowspace.com/gauntlet.htmlRules:- Savestates are allowed ONLY for the purpose of taking screenshots and ONLY if your emulator/game in question does not have a pause function.- Rerolls are allowed under the following conditions:>The game you get requires some sort of hardware functionality that cannot be accurately emulated to complete (eg, Boktai)>The game would otherwise require cheats, hacks, or alteration of the software to complete due to a bug (eg, Cheetahmen II)-For games that have a high score or no end, the rule is>if no high score has been established, set a goal and beat it>if you're playing something another anon already has a high score on, beat their high score>if you are playing extended rpgs/pokemon/whatever you get a week (Depending on the game: probably ask in thread)- Do not post screenshots every other screen, make them few and meaningfulAND BRING ME SCREENSHOTS
>Implying /vr/ play gamesA shader thread died for this.
bumpin to play later
>>12472428The shader thread is still up, where the OP uses a crt shader and curvature on a GBA game that originally ran on a LCD screen.
>Minelvaton SagaWhat the hell is this?? I may not take part in the challenge because I'm stressed about how I'm going to make some money asap to pay a few bills, but I am curious about this game. JRPG I've never heard of. I wonder if collage-anon played it.
>tiger-heliman I'm sure the arcade version of this was great, but this is a really sluggish NES port>>12472432>Minelvaton Saganever heard of it, but its got an english translationrpgs are rough for a first game desu
>Maya the Bee The Great AdventureI'm one of the few idiots that actually plays here so I'll play this and if I beat it maybe I'll try some of the other games.
>>12472476Decent platformer so far, not sure how I feel about this though... why can't you just hold the jump button to fly?
Well, I'm probably halfway through now, and I'm getting a gallery code? Wouldn't this be better saved for the end?
the flicker in this game gets a little much during high octane scenes, and its slowbut its fun overallvery easy with continues, but without them its a bit of a slog
>>12472536done. very straightforward game, things got a bit intense with 4-3 where you have to fight against the wind while also dodging enemies
Oh what's that I was supposed to start from nes? well damn >Ys
I already knew about the ring and so we finally get our quest - that won't matter because I still have to do more grinding before I even have a chance.
>>12472428this
>>12472562this game goes so fucking slow god damn it, but I finally beat it after many breaks because its like 15 minutes to get back to where I died to the two flickering tanksMaster System next, got Bram Stoker's DraculaHope this doesn't suck
oh this game is fuckin' awesome so fartight controls and a really cool look overall
I've been doing my own version of it using some local textfiles precisely because it died, but more as a randomizer so it's not following that specific order. Always encourage people to pick something outside of the norm/their comfort zone, plenty of 5/10s people would enjoy more than repeating other lists. I am stuck with a Saturn roguelike though, but I can always pretendbump with older screenshots.Picrel is a licensed cardbattler (but no deckbuilding). Cards have 3 numbers and the attacking card's "hit" number is the one that matters for the defender's card as well (seems to be some RNG there as well). You have your regular/special throw cards, line-out forces a ball switch (before a ball connects) and the only other card allows you to pass. The storymode has you battle it out against various teams, taking some players with you when you beat them. It's not very complicated or hard (and the game gives you a password to retry when you lose).Seeing a bunch of dodgeball saiyans throwing ultimates followed by an animation of the guy that was hit seemingly flying through a desert at mach 5 (all inside the dodgeball court) is pretty funny though.
never done one of these, today just might be the day.
>>12474325Welcome to Micronics. At least you didn't get Ikari Warriors
>>12474660i rolled kirbys adventure on nesi've beaten it more than my dick, so i'm rerollan
>>12474735Crisis Force (J) it is. Not sure I know what this is, even though it's Konami. As of right now, I am reopening Nestopia.
>>12474745Holy shit HIDDEN GEM here. It's kind of like a mix of Raiden and Gradius. You can change your shots to be normal straight, straight and back, or straight and to the sides. Each one gets powered up and has different effects, and you can morph into some super ship with a countdown for how long it lasts that can be extended with pickups. Each mode has different bombs too.Awesome Konami soundtrack expected of the NES era, and some cool stuff happening in the bg's and with the enemies. Wish I knew about this sooner. Most of the challenge was during the levels, only a couple bosses gave me trouble, the first couple were pushovers.Shame this one didn't come out in the US, but looking it up says they used Konami's custom VRC4 chip, and it was late into the console gen.Really cool shooter, would rec.
>>12472424Broke the rules because I didn’t feel like doing every platform, but I’ve been on a PCE kick so I started there and got Super Air Zonk. It was really fun, it has a Mega Man style level select for the first four stages. I can’t think of any other shmup that does that outside of some Thunderforce entries. A lot of cool set pieces, I loved the part where you destroy a giant mech piece by piece, then go inside and kill the heart. The bosses were just okay, most of them have very simple patterns but a lot of health, so they just kind of drag on. Some zany power ups, but many of them functioned more or less identically. Never played the original Air Zonk before nor any of the Bonk games, I’ll give them a shot at some point.
>>12474341I have just found out the difficulty setting in this is literally just more stages and you can’t play the whole game unless you’re on hardit doesn’t change the gameplay at all otherwiseI’ll finish tomorrow I guess
>>12472432Sure I have. The exploration is kinda fun but the game is waaaaaaaaaay too easy, which seems to be a common trait for the entire series
>>12474880Crisis Force is great. It's also a good SHMUP for beginners since you can use the formation with auto targetting fire and just focus ont he dodging. One of the first Famicom games I bought when I got a Famicom. It takes some heavy inspiration from MUSHA in some places and.... that one famous PC-E SHMUP which name escapes me atm and which uses very similar mechanics
>>12475986It's one of the most impressive Famicom I've ever played. Instantly became a favorite. I brainfarted on the MUSHA parallels in my last post, but it really does. I don't know many shooters on PCE/Turbo, possibly Dragon Spirit? I don't remember if that had mechanics where you control where your shots go, never played through it.
>>12472587I am still playing. I was unable to post but I was still playing the whole time. There's not much to say about this version of Ys, except that the level gains are much higher in this version... but this also means there are less levels are more grinding to do. Yes, there are 2 hours of gameplay and 8 of them are spent grinding. Even for this hackney version, I still don't really like Ys 1... but I still think you should play this before Ys 2... not this version though. It's okay, but it is missing important story cues.
This is to cover everything I did while I was gone.>TransBotYeah, that fits...Subpar horizontal shmup, there isn't really macrododging here because you move so slow and you're such a big target for the erratic movement of each enemy type. Also because you can only hold 3 extra lives, any lives you earn past this are lost. Standing topright of the far left is your best placement 95%. This game has a boss where you fly into a hole and end up in a space base but it only seems to appear if you can destroy the enemies that shoot only when you shoot them with a weapon like D. Here's the hole at as low as 5k. It's super easy to beat too, it only shoots one bullet at your location, moves left and right, you move away then wait for it to move back and repeat. And then when you kill it, it loops over. And of course this game has nothing to do with being trans. This game is mostly for score, so the last pic is the most legit score I've gotten, and this was while being robbed of 2 extra lives because I was playing too well before the 'fuck you' sections. When you get the cheese puffs that follow you + the yellow worms that move diagonally in a wide arc.... An enemy that force you to the middle of the screen paired with enemies that move into the middle of the screen and shoot homing bullets do not mix well.
>Dragon Quest Monsters 2 Cobi's AdventureAlso played this before but okay, this is the best dragon quest game so its coolPlaying Tara's Adventure to be more specific, both versions are basically the same, the only difference is you use the ChangeStaff to fit through a hole in Cobi's game Tara just walks through. There is a very large sidegame/postgame but I won't be doing any of that. The lamp is a monster you recruit through the story and it gets Kabuff/defense+all & Accelerate/speed+all though ironically this was not needed for the final boss.MadCondor is also recruitd through the story and gets Multiheal, which evolves into Healusall, which is FullHeal for everybody. The only thing I fuse for is a Noctobat aka Noctoking. This thing is good enough to be in the party until the end and it has the best skill especially for this playthrough which is 'YellHelp', it can get anywhere from 0 to 8 hits in a single turnDarck has PanicAll and Gigaslash but that's alright, unlike the maingame it can't hit groups
>Ultima Runes of Virtue IIWas not expecting this...Some important things to note if you play this game. This requires a lot of memorization because there is a lot of trickery and this game is not kind to mistakes:- If you pick up keys on a floor, DO NOT LEAVE UNTIL YOU USE ALL OF THEM.If you leave the floor with the keys, the keys will be removed from your inventory and THEY WILL NEVER COME BACK.... Is what I originally wrote in my notes. Though this does happen, if you die, the chests and all that respawn. In fact, this game is very merciful with death. You respawn where you started the map, all current healing items remain and when I found a point with a respawning chest with food, I grinded up 99 foods and I need all that and more. There is a lot of sections where you have no choice but to breathe health and take assheaps of damage. So yeah, this game is not thaaat hard, it just has some things that kind of suck about it, and the game does get very long later, and forgetting the one optional 'puzzle' that I could not get to work no matter what I did, I was able to beat it relatively easily. I may have to try some of the other ultima games if a game this easy can anger a jew so much.
And yeah the cutscene at the end just... stops and you're left standing in front of British. Talk to him again and you see the cutscene again... but there are sidequests you can access by talking to him and now that he's stuck like this I can't do those sidequests and there's no credits, lest you count the one on the title screen...That's the end for now. Next up:>Valis III
Made my way around. Might as well shove a gauntlet inbetween.Rolled Dragon Quest/Warrior though. It's probably been more than a decade for me, so it's fine. Just not particularly interesting to post.
There are some weird things about this game. For one, the slide is Down and A. Now you may be thinking what the hell is weird about that, well you switch characters with A, and when you have no one to switch to you also slide with A.And as before, even though the slide is supposed to be your dodge tech, it seems to be too tall even for things you can avoid just crouching. Then we have these ice caves which has some kind of weird propulsion...If you are crouching or sliding then stand still, but you just *tap* a direciton, you start moving when you let go of down even though you aren't holding any button it seems. This is especially bullshit for these parts where you have to slidedash through this screen. You can't crouch slide like Mario because you lose all momentum when you crouch. I think you're meant to slide to the edge then slide again, but you do not have much of any grace on these ledges compared to something like Megaman where he can stand on the tip of his foot. Here we got nothing. So it makes much more sense to damage boost off the spikes and let the knockback push me to the edge then slide. And you can still die after this and that means doing this all over again. Very cool Telenet, very cool.
Even though we have three playable characters, they all play virtually the same.Same damage, same forward attack. All the different shot types from the first game are gone. This game is also a lot more stingy with health items so sometimes it just seems like you have to die on purpose to get health back most of the time. And as if the game is acknowledging the illusion of choice, only Yuko can enter the final boss.Thankfully, there seem to be infinite continues as long as you press it before the countdown and I am forced to do this final section several times. This final boss is bullshit.
https://files.catbox.moe/6nyv2c.mp4fucking finally.May not look that hard but you can't slide under him most of the time without getting hurt so most of the time I'm just sitting there and pray tobuddha that the bullets don't fuck me over too much. And there are times where he just spams the shield laser and thankfully he didn't do it in any meaningful way.
>Bartman Meets Radioactive ManOh fuck no...All you need to know is this was developed by the same people who made such classics as Rocky and Bullwinkle, and Bart vs the Space Mutants.Oh whats that? This is just a 1:1 port of the nes game with worse screen crunch? Well... I've never played this before so this is probably going to be like battletoads where I need to learn the game first and memorize it before I can actually beat it legit. No guaranteed I'll do it in time.
i'll just get some shitty arcade port
>>12472424I feel it's an extremely bad idea to try to condense actual video game discussion into a general. It was a terrible idea the first time. If you're actually playing a game just make a thread on it.
Okay I think I've finally formulated a strategyThe first two levels are by far the hardest, there's just so much instant death with extremely precise jumps but after that things get much easierThere is still instant death traps and unavoidable damage but it's a lot less common and the checkpoints for them are mostly reasonable
DONE.Got a bit scary at the end, died and lost my powers, but the powerups don't respawn on death and I really did need them for the final gauntlet so I had to expend a continue... yes you have limited continues, yes you can get more health than the visual says. The video is too big to fit in catbox, but I have the full 49 minutes to verify the authenticity.
Got nes golf for first game. How did this not go in? Ended with +44 at the end. If wind is under 10mph it's a meme.
Playing the grindan game. Should probably do some progression before I get the full plate. Here's a postcard of the famed Brecconary traffic jam.
Got all of my ancestor's junk. Time to finish up the last bit of grinding and then flee my way through the big bad castle.
The Shitlord has been attack-attack-healed to death. Doesn't have the same impact now that I've played some pre-DQ JRPGs. It's not the 1st game that is highly praised though, it's always been a bit of an "introduction to RPGs" for that then new console market.Next up is Taz-Mania for Master System. The platformers on that tend to be reasonable if a bit easy from my experience. Must be the licenses.
>>12478839how did it go?
>>12477850That's not the grindan game
>>12475972this game was great for the first half and the last half was really repetitive and not my favoritethe bosses were either really easy or really annoyingmy favorite is that if you dont get van helsing before the boss then some of them take an insane number of hits, like the wolf boss takes 32 hits taking like 2 minutes of timing jumps and getting one hit per dodge lolwouldn't recommendNext up, Croc on the GBC
>>12472424Sorry OP but I failed on the first roll. Proving I'm a gamer is not worth the pain of playing Sesame Street ABC & 123 to completion.
>>12479685DQ? I played it before and it's not like death is a huge deal (especially when you don't need money). Outside of 1 enemy getting a really lucky sleep it went as you'd expect when you play conservatively.Taz-Mania? Still need to start. Lost my NEET powers.
As expected, not much to it. It's a pretty basic platformer with Taz's spin as the gimmick move, it's just an offensive dash (and also your only offensive move) that is limited by a very quickly refilling bar. It can also be used as a sprint jump, though if you run out you'll get the slow movement of the regular jump back. You've got life bar that does take quite a few hits, you can eat some food to refill (bombs being the trap version of it), you can dash it away though. Bosses are simple avoid (projectiles) and dash into them. You get 5 level themes each with 2 levels+a boss stage. The game is quite liberal with 1-ups and food if you explore the rather small levels. Jumping down is a pain as you can't see much below you. Using the dash to get to small platforms can be precarious and sometimes changing directions on small platforms makes the jump floaty/slippery. The bosses are easy if you take it slow, you'll lose more health from being impatient as they do have i-frames after a hit.As an aside I ran it with a PAL BIOS, but it ran on NTSC resolution. It's marked as a Europe+Brazil rom, so I guess it's PAL-M and ares doesn't stretch it. Only really a problem because I have to crop.I have separate GB and GBC lists, so next up for me is Kirby's Block Ball on Game Boy.
>TaleSpinThis game would almost be good but there are two things that prevent it from being so. First is that this game is actually very ruthless with fast respawning enemies as you move, so ruthless that you pretty much have to pause buffer in the final area to be able to hit the enemies before they hit you. Additionally if you hit offscreen they don't get hurt but they can still snipe you from offscreen and this conveyor belt part pushing you backwards is such ass shit. They recover any damage you do if they get offscreen again. The second is that you do not have the abilities to make this reasonable. Your jump is so fucking short that you cannot jump over any enemies, especially when you would need to, to avoid taking damage. There are two bosses in particular where you have to take unavoidable damage and there are no health items at all. You can only take 6 hits before dying and you have a very short iframe meaning you're probably gonna take 3-4 hits from passing the same enemy. Okay, I lied, there is one (1) healing item in the whole game and guess where it is? At the end of the level with no stage boss. It's just so unfair for no reason and it makes me think no one play tested this or did not understand why this is not okay. If the intended way to progress is to take damage, that is bad game design.
>PC-Sherlock: A Game of Logic and DeductionEvery time I've tried using DOS through NekoProject it never worked, but I've never tried it with Retroarch and amazingly it works. This game is just Code Breaker. If you played Kyuuyaku or Persona 1 it's the exact same game, but there are some other variations of the game thrown in and that's cool, but not my cup of tea, and I really don't understand how you'remeant to play this version of it... It seems you can also screw yourself and make the puzzle impossible. The best part of this game is that you can redraw the images used in the picture puzzle!! (Only 16 colors) You can also change the background to make a wide awake nightmare of eye bleeding colors!
Okay now I understand. You have to click on the correct one out of the 6 in top left. The stuff in the right and bottom are your hints, so when it shows on the bottom 6 is next to 'dead end' that means they're in the same column, right? Well yes, but what about the ones where it shows adjacent pieces? What if it's going left or going right? What if the wrong piece is actually under the same column like it is in the solution of this? There is not enough information to deduce the solution yourself. But I will say the animation at the end here where the screen starts getting bombarded by ms paint drawings made me smile and it reminds me of when I used to play Spider Solitaire on the family computer when I was really young.
>Art of Fighting IIBesides this image, there's really not much to say. There's no story mode or anything like that it's just a 2 player fighting game and I think that's it...I'm gonna reroll for this one...
Normally when I see breakout I fear the 2 pixel paddle and hyper speed as the final block rests in an unhittable position. Kirby's Block ball is pretty chill though, just need to do well enough in the stages (which are multi-level) and a minigame to farm lives in minigames for points so you can get the "border line" score. If you don't manage, just retry till you. Stage 10 requires you to come in with a power-up and if you lost one, you can just enter a stage and exit when you have the one you want. Beat all the target scores and you unlock the final stage. The bosses tend be fair enough, they can hit your paddles, but little singular star paddles remain and the ball speed is manageable. Time a copy power right and you might just stunlock a boss. Sometimes you can just get them stuck and taking damage when they get close to a corner, hitting them is faster than the time they take for an action and it seemingly reset (this only happened with one boss though). The copy powers are Kirby related, a rock to smash down through blocks, a fireball to shoot up through blocks, electric kirb to go through most blocks (there's a pattern here). You can also time your paddle hit to have Kirby become big which allows him to destroy blocks in 1 hit (at the cost of points). Certain blocks can only be destroyed by big kirby or a bomb.As I said before, I keep the GBC in a different list so Planet of the Apes (GBC) is next. That's more like it, RNG has been too kind.
Okay, nevermind, this is where problems start. I can play all the games I want to play but when I try loading anything I've never heard of it never works.Every game I reroll doesn't work... And this isn't because my system is broken, because clearly aof2 worked.
For Saturn i got one of the Virtua fighter CG gallery discs. How the fuck do i "beat" that?
I'm just going to play something I know works and I also have never played before. This is MushihimeTama and it is not a bullet hell but a puzzle bobble type of game made by Cave so you can watch Reco's jubilees bounce.
And this is the moment I realized this game is full of malice. Those orange gems can only be broken if you hit them directly, and I can't hit them if I don't pop the first layer... But guess how many colors I guess access to here?If you guessed all whites, you're absolutely correct.
And then after several attempts of getting ceiling and trying to extend the timer, I somehow broke through by getting a counter hit by mashing the down button and breaking the gem under like this...
>>12480921It's saying your NeoGeo.zip BIOS files are out of date, for 1.0.0.0 or 1.0.0.1 of FBNeo. You need the BIOS .zip file for 1.0.0.2 of FBNeo. You can probably find it and all compatible games for 1.0.0.2 at https://pleasuredome.github.io/pleasuredome/nonmame/fbneo/
Many counter hits and many credits later... Victory! For some reason continuing does not reset your score.
>>12477405Music and graphics were the best part of this game. Had to translate the brazil manual to know to press b at seed points in order to get health and check points, some have traps. Control is pretty bad, but it is very faithful to the cartoon.
>>12481052Thank you, I will try that later and see if it works.Next up is>Ghosts & Goblins... On the Commodore 64.
>>12472424Joining late, I know what I want to do for every console except the Turbografx, but I'm at an impasse for the NES. Should I play StarTropics or Zelda 2?
Well... It's exactly what you expect, but it also has it's own flavor of bullshit. Like... what is with this army of ghosts??? I was just about to finish the level and there are no continues, no extra lives. Only 5 tries, and you go back to the title screen.Although there hasn't been much for enemy variety. Devils are on a fixed pattern and super easy to offscreen here, and I've beat 3 unicorns as stage bosses. Most of my deaths have been to bad jumps.
>>12481254Slightly better odds of finishing Zelda 2. Startropics stops playing fair at the 3rd level and stops pretending to be kind when you reach the ghost village. Zelda 2 isn't that bad outside of that one palace you have to fall and turn into a fairy to find what you need, and the Great Palace in it's entirety. You'll see far more of Zelda 2 before getting filtered, Startropics will stomp you down early.
>>12481287I was thinking this was the case. Thanks for the quick response anon.
>>12481076
Wait that's it...? The game ends at stage 4?I tried to see if I could find something else like this was a second quest or something but no, it just loops over and over from stage 4. Supposedly there is another version that is more authentic to the misery most people know this game as but my roll didn't specify that version so...
Amiga is also not working. I'll try to figure it out later, but I want to keep up the momentum right now.If you think I've been getting off with short games I have a couple long ones coming up.>Lunar: Silver Star StoryOnce upon a time, this game was thought impossible to emulate, but it works now. Maybe I can finally get the Magical Knight Rayearth game to run...!
Bad picture. One tedious cave later and we're off. I remember playing the gba version but I don't remember beating it.
Normally this tough is tough because he heals back all the damage I do, but once I build up vigor he's a joke. Almost out of the first major choke of this game and my options will greatly expand.
boss is tough*
>>12479758I do not like Croc for the GBC very muchthe pause is finnicky, if you click and hold too much then lol its unpaused nowits super duper easy so far, except for the slide puzzle at the end of the first level (i am not a slide puzzle guy)
Planet of the Apes is a rotoscopeformer, should have known.
>>12481975the attacks in this game are way more detrimental than helpfulalmost done 100%ing the first world, fuck the minigames that require you to redo the entire level if you mess up
how do i do screenshots if im playing it on my retroid pocket 5?
>>12482417ok i need a new game since this is a light gun game, didn't even know it was.
>>12482105I expected worse, solid 5.5/10. A decent western platformer that isn't labyrinthine, but controls a bit awkwardly due to the overanimated player character. You'll get a knife at first and then some guns (pistol, rifle, machine gun), when drawn you'll move slowly. You've got plenty of health (+refills) and dying just means you restart the level.Your goal is to just progress, but there are some flags strewn about the level. There are also some setpieces like levers and cogs to collect for a machine. Kill everything, grab all the flags and get to the exit within 5 minutes and you get the top rating. It seems to just be for bragging rights, as I checked a 100% run (I missed a few) and nothing changed. Feels a bit pointless as it isn't hard to do , you'll just need to know the level a bit.For SNES I rolled Kid Klown in Crazy Chase.
>>12482543>Kid KlownGood luck
>>12482545I remember hearing that the final level is just advanced pick-a-dick.
>bonus room because I fucked up my jump in the lava/mountain levelNice. Seems doable so far once you get to know the hazards. Guess I'll get to know them if my luck is anything to go by.
oh boy i've missed these threads. I didnt know there was a new site that hosted the gauntlet html stuff.Never heard of this one, but here i go
Normal mode was easy enough and hard seems to leave with you some room to mess up still. A flashing light seems to indicate which keyhole is correct, so turns out it isn't random (would be a dick move). I'm done for today though, but I don't think hard will actually be much of struggle.
My mouse has become very unstable which has made playing a living hell that I really wanted to quit right there and the problem still isn't resolved but I'm trying to push through it. Speedups/fastforwards don't really work on the Saturn and these fights can take about 1min35sec each, sometimes longer, with 10 seconds of artificial loading times between it so I'm just doing stuff on the computer or studying as the fights go by but in the times where I need to take things semi-seriously Escape Song is guaranteed escape and it erases the encounter from the map.Even though this game doesn't have random encounters it may as well be. It gets kind of ridiculous when there's these bottlenecks with 4 enemy encounters all together and they can pass through walls.
>>12481254>>12481287One day in and I'm halfway through the fourth dungeon. Hoping to have beaten it and the fifth dungeon this evening. It's been a long time since I made it this far in Zelda 2 and I remember the fifth dungeon being across the ocean, but after that I'm at a bit of a loss.
lmoa
>>12482713And there you go. Had to retry a couple of times, but the game itself is short. Charming looking game, though you can see that better through the animations, very slapstick. Did not care for the hazards that stopped you dead in your tracks for the clown reaction, gets old and could be done whilst moving. To actually get the credits you need to beat it on hard. It's not entirely an auto-runner as you do control the speed you run at (and can stop), but that describes the gameplay best. Your goal is to outrun a fuse and hopefully get some card suits from the celebration balls (you need them for the best ending) all the while avoiding various traps and obstacles. There's only 5 levels+the princess' cage, so you'll get to know them quickly enough. There's also some minigames, some are done between levels and give you a chance to regain life. Others are accessed through the level by jumping in specific places are failing specific jumps and give you either a mini-platformer or falling/flying stage where you avoid spikes, both will reward you with a power-up.For Megasis I rolled Exile.
Exile reads like it's been translated by an autistic 12-year old with a modern pre-AI fluff translator. It also has infinitely spawning enemies that you can one-shot, so if I really wanted to I can just sit in a corner and hold the attack button to level up.
Been mostly keeping things spoiler free for myself and you, I am probably about 2/3s of the way through and I should hopefully beat it today. Also I did not buy any extra soap so there will not be a second bathtime scene for the girls
>>12484031That was Exile. Surprisingly short for any form of RPG, but it's also really linear with many scenes being top-down townlike sections. The actual dungeons aren't very big either. As said before, the localized version is in fluent ESL and can be utter nonsense. Apparently a few things got cut out in the consolization of the original and then even more in the localization. You've got some basic attacks (a slash and a down slash when jumping), these are also all you really need. You get spells, but I only ever used the healing one once. I leveled up to level 5 when I found out about the safe respawning enemies and that is generally enough to carry you to endgame with natural levelling. Then you'll probably do it again at the end as you might as well be max level for the final boss. You can save in any non-hostile area, so if you manage to die outside of your first few minutes getting to grips with the game you can just reload and try again. For Game Gear I rolled Mahou Kishi Rayearth.
This is what I ended up with. It's just Space Harrier.
Looks like it is going to take a bit longer than I thought, the boss of the next area was too much to handle at the level I was at but it's done now. I will probably have to go through another hurdle like that though so maybe 2 more days? I'm getting close.
>>12483508Done. Finished with 7 Sword, 7 Magic, and 8 Life.Thunderbird used up all of my magic so I cheesed Dark Link at the end, but clocked it pretty quickly
>>12472424I just wanted to say, after 14 years, this is a pretty great picture

>>12485527That one should be licensed by 7 Gran Dad instead my dad
Aw man, if only I was good at games! I'll be playing this list anyways though, I'm fairly interested in what's in here.>>12472431>the gameboy player didn't existI mean I know it was less popular than the Super Gameboy(something that certain Gameboy games were literally designed to play with, namely most of the RPGs) but really?
>>12485531that’s not a bad idea, Joel actually used to use the original gauntlet site on his streams way back in the dayyou can see it in his Where’s Waldo video
That's GG Rayearth 1 (turns out it had a TL). It's a license with a simple and easy RPG slapped on top of it. You get 3 dungeons and a town with some event battles. One of the dungeons disallows magic (so just knight then) and there are 2 locations which they decided to just turn into cutscenes. The town itself doesn't serve a purpose as a town, as inns and item shops are found in other dungeons too.You have your regular attack and some magic to use, the gimmick is that your characters "spin" and you can make them go faster (or slower) so that they hit harder. I guess the idea is that it's harder to pick specific characters, but there's only 3 and they have a turn cooldown. Annoyingly you need to mash the d-pad after every attack. The other gimmick is a random chance to get some lucky effects (instakill, team attack, heal/mp regen, etc.) which sounds good on paper, but will use your turn. A revive when no one is downed just means you've wasted a turn and the enemy gets to bash you. There are also some unlucky effects or just free mostly pointless gold (and a turn wasted). For the PCE I rolled Pachio-kun: Maboroshi no Densetsu.
I'm at the home stretch... I can no longer teleport, I can't even escape the dungeon I'm in so this must be the point of no return.
