The RPG that changed gaming forever!

Then blizztard took a decade to release 3, fucking retards

Not an RPG.
>>
>>12473101
Reasons for this:
Psychological manipulation vs. choice - RPGs are about making choices, while Diablo 2 is about extracting dopamine. Stat allocation being vapid and synergies further calcify choice.
Cycle vs. progression - In an RPG, you progress through a setting expressed by systems while also expressing a character. In Diablo 2, you repeat functionally identical cycles to trigger a chemical response, aka a Mephisto run has nothing to do with the nature of an RPG but is more akin to pulling a lever on a slot machine.
The player as a target - D2 has the player as a component in a feedback loop designed to maintain engagement and crawl a leaderboard faster.

Everything that came from D2, all its influences have zero to do with any part of roleplaying games. Probably the worst thing to happen to RPGs that influenced wider industry trends, even more than horse armor. The biggest indictment of this game style is its close ties to RMT, which shows how the gameplay is actually something that people want to bypass.

The gameplay starts at endgame.

My first online experience was Diablo 2 on release. I remember starting in the rogue encampment and some high level player says he will help me out just follow him out of the encampment....that was a good learning lesson at least I managed to make it back though with a sliver of health so the joke is on him

always thought it was funny how they used the lone wanderer on the cover despite how little you see him in the game in that form (beginning of act 3 for only a few seconds and you don't even see his face)

In what way? And why RPG?
>>
>>12473138
Very sad that this is true.

Diablo 2 is a fun playthrough as a party, but I cannot imagine the kind of person who just speedruns normal->nightmare->hell with hand-me-down unique items so that they can endlessly do baal runs so that they can complete the next baal run 0.0001% faster.

Basically, Diablo never had any impact on RPGs at all. It created its own genre and was probably the best thing to happen to gaming in general.

Whoever made scarabs should die
