That's just NIntendo first/second party in general. Wars is one of the peak tactical game series ever, it's much more Chess like than most video strategy games.

It was a hard fought battle, but I beat this shit back in January.

Gameboy carts seem to be a little more fragile than the ones for main consoles probably because of everything being much smaller and easier to damage.

>B rank
didnt beat the game
>>
>>12473537
my experience is that carts for main consoles if they don't work usually just need cleaning but Gameboy ones are more likely to have cracked or broken traces or solder joints
>>
>>12473561
I remember a Youtuber who repaired a Genesis 2 that didn't power on and it turned out to be a very small and hard to see broken trace.

the DMG Gameboys are very sturdy and well-built, Nintendo designed them to survive a 6 foot drop but the cartridges are a little less robust
>>
Puzzle Tactics games are all the same. Instead of trying to improvise and/or bruteforce it you just have to figure out how you're "meant to" clear the level.
All the levels are designed with that in mind, with the winning strategy defined and then the level was built around it.
If you're struggling you're just not using the correct strategy.

I hope you were playing on hard mode.

That's not really true. Sometimes in Advance Wars they give you the character who is only good at making air units and the hint room for the level is "Try making air units :)" and then the enemy makes two dozen anti-air units even if you never make a single air unit, and producing anything in the air is suicide.
Creativity and adaptability are big parts of these games.

>surprisingly
What's so surprising about it?

The two COs I love playing as are Sami and Olaf. Grit is OP but he's a real bitch. Raping the shit out of him when you have a dozen mechs hiding out in the mountains with CO power is satisfying.
Olaf I slept on but using blizzard at the right time is a game changer. I decimated Kanbei on a difficult map (Difficult for my pedestrian ass)

didnt think this gba game with the cartoony box art was going to challenge me but it is. Im definitely getting the hang of things now though and blasting through campaign. its a ton of fun
>>
I definitely like max the most in the first game. probably not objectively the best but it feels like a significant boost in power using him and spamming heavy tanks to plow through everything just feels good man.
>>
>>12474152
Max is OP in the first game. That's why they nerfed him so hard.
>>
>>12473720
As opposed to what? Levels where you just use the same strategies over and over again?
>>
I have full unit health OCD so I HATE any enemy CO that has a damage all units effect. If you make my shiny tanks have 9 health I WILL commit war crimes against you.
>>
>>12474268
Hes right the campaign is just solve the puzzle, half the scenarios you dont even build a unit you just move the pieces to the right place at the right time. The non campaign aspect of the series is more fun and like the previous games when you just drop in on a map with a couple factories and 100 grey buildings and have to decide how you want to proceed its much more enjoyable. Except in this game you are now also given OP COs like Max who simplify the whole thing and just let you build tanks and steamroll every encounter. Also I believe the AI is dumber than previous games but I cant confirm that.
>>
no fucking chance I could've beat this game without max. that nigga hard carried me. what a bro
>>
>>12474196
Holy shit I looked it up. 150% direct damage at all times and 170% for his CO power. That's insane lmao
>>
>>12474279
I agree I like the free form battles more for sure, but figuring out the puzzle in campaign in fun too and it's awesome the game gives you both. Just a really great game. Are any of the pre-advance wars jap only games worth it?

>B rank
Really? Not even A?
>>
>>12474352
I dont know which ones are JP only (I think they all are?) but Gameboy Wars 3 is pretty special with its terraforming aspects and units that you can save and bring to the next mission, its definitely worth playing. and the original famicom wars is pretty great for what it is as long as you speed up the enemies turns, its a great game to just pop on, do a scenario, then shut off.

The Beauty and the Beast games on Sega Genesis. There were two games and both were batshit hard. i was beating games like Alien 3 and T2: The Arcade Game like they were nothing but could not beat either of those games.
>>
"adoolt" games are usually easy, adults don't have that much time to invest in getting good, so they prefer to watch some moviegame or whatever current normie "game" is being sold to them
