At what point did the term AI supersede calling your opponents the CPU or COM? Not yelling at clouds, just wondering when the trend started.

The players are CPU or COM, their behavior is what has always been referred to as AI.

'97 is the easiest to play arcade ladder, '95 is the one that still has some novelty in its simplicity relative to the popular installments that it's considered worth playing in current year, '96 has one of the best soundtracks in video games
