>>12474048Can't apply it to the disc image, not a real translation, doesn't count
>>12474118It's a translation. You want a patch. That's something different. There are many games that are translated, but don't have a translation patch. Words mean things, OP. I've played through multiple games using such scripts.
>>12474118Why do you think this game will never get a patch? Is it particularly hard to hack or something?

EOPs will never know the greatness of Shake Kids.

Dungeon Kid on NES.Internally; the code system used for the text in menus is not appropriate for a translation. Not only that but the ROM size is incredibly small and there is close to 0 bytes of free space left. So, you'd have to start by expanding the ROM and then write a completely new text system for menus, all for a super mediocre Famicom RPG that maybe a grand total of 12 Japanese people ever cared about for 2 months after release and then forgot existed. Yes, I've seen worse games get translations, but that was because they were easier to translate.
>>12474315This seems like it would be very straightforward to hack. It's a 128 KB MMC1 game so expanding the ROM is as easy as changing a byte in the header, adding the desired amount of free space, then repositioning the last bank in the original ROM to be the last bank in the expanded ROM. This takes about 3 minutes in a hex editor and there are tools to do it automatically.I haven't looked at any code, but nothing about this game screams "this has especially complex code." Famicom games in general are very easy to hack. 6502 assembly is an easy programing language, and the system's architecture is simple and extensively documented. There's a reason the Famicom has the most translation hacks of any platform. In calling it a "super mediocre Famicom RPG" you neglected to mention it has a map editor and is basically proto-RPG maker (well it came out after the first version of RPG maker, but you know what I mean). Also it doesn't have very much text. If anything, I'd pin this as a game that is very likely to get a translation patch at some point. There's not that much interest in hacking Famicom games these days since most of the high profile games are already done, but there are still a few people rounding out the library.

>>12474132Not OP but who honestly has the patience for that shit, besides you evidently?
>>12481040If it's a text heavy scene, you're just reading the script for each scene, then playing through, occasionally looking at it when you need to decide something. If you're playing a JRPG, it's really not that bad. I'd just print out a chapter/episode at a time. Later on, I started using e-readers, instead. It's not really that taxing or time-consuming to do. I think the first game I did this for was Idolm@ster 2, or Namco X Capcom. The latter eventually got a patch years later. Not sure if IM2 ever did. You just make due with what you have.
