>>12474074>limb damage>objective-based missions>realistic enviornments>dual-wielding>advanced enemy animations>varied weapon functions>zoomable sniper riflePC couldn't compete in 1997
>>12474082this is what consolekeks truly believe makes a great fps. jesus christ it's like you were born to serve in the cuckchair and watch better people have more fun than younigger, go play UU (if you even know what that is) and be amazed at the true power of the PC masterrace
>>12474070Goldeneye is one of the games of all time.>>12474091Unreal Urnament?
>>12474093U Uagay
>>12474070Amazing how much effort they put into a licensed game. You can tell they really wanted to do the Bond franchise proud.
>>12474070What's a shame is that some of the best lessons from Goldeneye did not make their way into other FPSes. Enemies reacting to where you shoot them was so good. Now everything will just shrug off bullets until they're dead. Another one is missions having additional objectives based on the difficulty level. That adds so damn much replayability to the game and changes the game so much, but I can't think of any other FPS that does that.
>>12474093Unreal doesn't have Donkey Kong mode.
>>12474070I just finished the campaign on 00 Agent for the first time this morning and had a great time. I don't think I ever made it past the first few levels as a kid. It's an incredibly satisfying game to play and the presentation is flawless. Using a watch gadget for something cool is a straight dopamine hit. I think zapping open the floor hatch on the train and barely escaping with Natalya was my favorite part.Fuck Bunker 2 though. I didn't think to leave Natalya in her cell until my fifth or sixth retry. Abusing the throwing knives really saved me there too. But any time I triggered that alarm, the whole thing was shot.
>>12474091ultima underworld isn't exactly an fps.
>>12474139It has mutators though.
>>12474070>makes people boil in buttrage for decadesINSANELY BASED BROSNAN
>>12474070Cool, thanks to Rareware, but the whole presentation is shallow, boring, generic. Also the terrible framerateMoH set the standard for every successful fps moving foward
I love the gameplay of goldeneye but goddamn the level design is absolute fucking garbage tier. So many retarded fail states. So many retarded "stealth" missions where firing anything over 1 shot at a time alerts 3 enemies that infinitely spawn clones of himself. So many reused assets and filler missions. So many objectives that don't make common sense unless you look up a guide. T. Got burnt out 5 missions before the end of trying to beat it on 00 mode.
>>12474070Pic unrelated?
>>12474070Ludocore.
Tendies derive pleasure from external acceptance. They can't enjoy games without a seal of prestige latched on to them, so they never discuss the actual games, only their imaginary effect on the industry. When you spot this trend, you can't unsee it anymore.
>>12474070Valve kneels to the britbongs
>>12474806Bro nothing is more boring and generic than WW1/2
>>12475020Nothing is more boring than a movie based video gameand learn to contextualize, zoomer. There aren't many fps ww2 games in the 90s.
>>12474082>limb damage>objective-based missions>realistic enviornments>varied weapon functions>zoomable sniper rifleit's all here in 1995
>>12474070It's a shame Halo came out and homogeneized the FPS genre, it would have been cool to see how Goldeneye/Perfect Dark design philosophy could have improved with better tech and other studios doing their spins of those games. Instead of poor fake retro recreations we get today
>>12475113thats a mech sim, not an fps
>>12475019>>12475019>when you realize your project is shit and embarrassing compared to the other kids and start copying them in panic
>>12474814>ugh, I had to be careful? and THINK!?>I couldn't just hold my joystick up and win!??!????>Laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaame.
>>12475042Movies can give you very unique settings, World Wars are boring and done to dead, you already know what it is and how it goes
>>12475146If Halo didn't came out then you would be in a thread talking about how shameful it was for Goldeneye to came out and homogeneized the FPS genre.
>>12474143Same here, finished Agent 00 on the XBLA remake for the first time a few weeks ago. I expected it to be harder to be honest. Game becomes really easy once you figure out the enemy's AI.The only thing that gave me trouble was bunker II as well. Didnt realize you were supposed to kill everyone with throwing knives until you get your silenced pistol since the guards start cloning themselves and horde you once they hear loud weapons. Ended up slapping everyone since never got used to the weird trajectory throwing knives have.
>Ohh boy, tiny levels and up to 4 whole people playing versus at once where fortunately you can see your opponent's exact location at all timesHow revolutionary!
>>12475278Thats so fucking disingenuous. I like the strategic elements of goldeneye. But the level design is terrible, and the mission design within those levels is equally terrible. There are a couple of good ones, like the opening Dam is really good. The mission on the ship was fun. I really liked the creepy red sky mission outdoors. But holy fucking damn they did not think 00 mode out. There's so much obtuse shit because it's designed by people who obviously did not like or play FPS games at the time.
>>12475289>XBLA remakeyou didn't beat the game.
>>12475315Im willing to concede that modern controllers probably made the game easier than it should have. Beating it with a n64 controller sounds really awful. It feels like you are constantly fighting the controller and not the game.
>>12475329Maybe if you're a casual.
>>12475329Actually its not that, its playing at 60 fps. Dead serious. Especially with M+KB. Also I swear they made the remake easier than the original. I recently played the official xbox port of the n64 game and it felt much harder than the remake. But having that shitty lag while you aim because of the low FPS makes the game a pure pain in the ass.
>>12475342It's a part of the game, it's part of the challenge of it. If you don't like that that's fine, but he can't say it's easy when he's playing it on a vastly easier mode. Also saying "they did not think 00 mode out" is pure ignorance and retardation. It's notorious that while games like Quake started with Easy or Medium mode Goldeneye started with 00 Agent and the game was designed around that and it shows. That's why Nightmare on Quake and similar games feel like they're just throwing more enemies at you and it's artificial. So just goes to show how lame people are trying to find fault with it when they're claiming things that are well-known to be and objectively the exact opposite in reality.
>>12475342So was making a first person shooter where a key aspect of it's difficulty is topping out at 15fps one of the things that made it revolutionize the genre?
>>12475174>thats a mech sim, not an fpsYou shot in a first-person perspective. What are you talking about?
>>12475310>There's so much obtuse shitDid you ever watch the movie "Goldeneye" (1995)?Ever notice how your video game missions were ALSO 007's movie missions???
>>12475394nta but no it wasn't. First of all it goes to 20fps most of the time. The film standard is 24fps so it's almost that. Secondly, why would it be? That doesn't sound like it would be one of the things that revolutionizes the genre, if anything it would be the opposite as in more fps = more revolutionary - so what makes you ask that question?
>>12474082>advanced enemy animations>realistic enviornmentslol, lmao>objective-based missionsother games already had this
>>12474070>revolutionizes first person shooters again
>>12475432Still easily shits on modern shooters. There should be more games where every weapon has an alternate mode.
>>12474070not even gonna read the thread because i know it will successfully have made the people 42+ years old mad who use the term 'first person shooters' to mean doomnukems
>>12475429>lol, lmaothat's true but not even the half of it. remember, the half-life people had basically made a game in the quake engine, had one play of goldeneye and saw the bullet holes, glass breaking and other things, and said OUR GAME IS SHIT.They knew they couldn't put something quakelike out after that and they had to start their whole game from scratch resulting in half-life the most lauded FPS ever
>>12474070>and then it got left in the dust as everything continued to progress
>>12474806no one cares about your mexican cd player shovelware
>>12475310Pfffbwahahaha... what a sad pathetic gamer.>>12475018>is that consoleshit? time to talk about pcslop is superior and fall back on doom and quake for the millionth time, actually did you hear about half life??? tendies NEED their external acceptance, pcchads like us don't which is why we bring up our games in every thread unprompted>>12475429>lol, lmao>other games already had thisUseless post. You're just angry and wanted to show some friction towards GE and than not even give a single example, KWAB.
>>12475421First off, do you have a source on it consistently running at 24fps? It's sure not my memory of it being anywhere near that smooth and looking it up the sources I found list it far lower. Saying 24 would be good anyways because it's close to movie framerate is comical, because it's not a movie it's an action game. More to the point, that guy seemed to be complaining that the remake running at a good framerate actually made the game worse. Any way you slice it, the notion that Goldeneye revolutionized the genre in any way is hilarious. It's a gimped console version of one of the most popular genres at the time. Other than running on cheap hardware and having multiplayer that makes it feel like a party game because you can see where the other three people are the whole time what was actually supposed to be revolutionary?
>>12475981>I was born in 2008>I don't own a console>All my gaming is done on PC>I pirate games from every platform on my PC, never using a different controller setup>I have access to 50 years of video games, all-at-once, and don't recognize any how any of you compare them under the concept of "time">It all plays the same and I don't understand you elderly people.Unsurprising.
>>12475981It was an introduction for many to fps. Its multiplayer made it a gaming phenomenon. FPS became more popular after its success. It set the stage for halo console parties. Retards judge it based on all the advances that came after. You have to appreciate it for what it was at the time.
>>12476152Snore. I was 23 when it came out and it looked terrible and played even worse even then. Yes, shooters on PC were already far better>>12476153If by that you mean it introduced console kids to shooters which watered down and cadualized the genre then sure call that a revolution. It's multiplayer made it a party game, you can see where everyone else is so you just run around like drunk idiots. It's not a serious or good fps game in any way. I know you'll just troll and wax poetic about how because it's on a Nintendo console it must be the most amazing thing ever so go for it. This board grows more pathetic by the day.
>>12476168>I was 23 when it came out23 days old, yeah.
>>12474082PC could've done all these things in 97, but it didn't. Goldeneye lit a fire under PC devs' asses.>>12475412NTA but Mechwarrior 2 literally plays more like a flight sim than a first person shooter. Meanwhile, Goldeneye is a bona-fide FPS.
>>12475042>Nothing is more boring than a movie based video gameMoH was somewhat of a companion piece for Saving Private Ryan. Spielberg wanted to make something that would teach younger audiences about WWII. That got thrown out the window by Underground though...
>>12475298That came out over a year after Goldeneye.
We can only thank Valve and Sierra for saving the genre
>>12475432As much as I love that game, a good chunk of the story mode is a fucking drag. The Combat Simulator is where it shined.
>>12476168>Yes, shooters on PC were already far betterThey literally weren't in any way. Quake was about the most advanced at the time and looks like shit compared to Goldeneye - even at the highest settings. It was fucking blown away by Goldeneye. It wouldn't happen now because of gpus but it happened due to the very peculiar situation at the time where 3d graphics cards were a new thing and the N64 was running off of a stripped down SGI workstation - ie. something fundamentally built for graphics unlike the IBM PC. I don't know what brain damage some people have about this but am tired of stating it, it's just a shame for casual people to be told lies because of idiocy.
>>12474070Holy shot, is this true?!
>>12476187Another win for /vr/'s waifu
>>1247407030 years old and still mogs the fuck out of 99% of FPS games in terms of enjoyment. How a team that had no idea what the fuck they were doing made something so advanced, I have no idea.
>>12475342Yes, native goldeneye is SIGNIFICANTLY harder than emulated goldeneye. Not just because of the lowered FPS but the fact that enemies are borderline invisible and blend into the background after certain distances. Aztec feels near impossible, and the target times feel frustratingly hard to pull off as you slam your body into the sides of doors and get stunlocked by KF7 fire
>>12475018A prestige video game experience is the Nintendo difference, my sega fanboy.
>>12475432Holy shit!!!
>>12476945I find that most people who bitch about the controls have just never tried using alternate control schemes. Using Solitaire basically fixes all the things people bitch about, other than it feeling "wrong" because it's a southpaw setup. It should have been the default scheme instead of Honey. Running diagonally using two C-buttons boosts your speed by about 40%, which makes earning cheats mich easier. It also lets you fly circles around those who don't know any better in multiplayer. I'm not even some meta/speedrunner fag, it's just stuff I noticed from playing the game a fuckton as a teenager.
speedtranny garbage no better than any other rareslop. go back to sucking off karl jobst.
