Picrel for me. Every couple of weeks my siblings and I would decide we were finally going to beat Athena. But sadly it's one of the most obscureshit games on the NES and we never got too far. I still think about it sometimes. And sometimes I still feel the pull to go back and play it again, but it would probably be with guides and at that point why even bother.
>>12474378I think you should finally beat it. Tie up that loose end from your childhood.
TMNT NES for sure.
>>12474378Micro Machines (NES version). I tried and tried and tried and almost every time I'd do a bit better but I never beat it because it's frikking hard, and some tracks like the tank ones can be real lives suckers that can ruin a playthrough.also I stopped my playthrough of Wizardry V (SNES) only 1 floor and a half before the end. I abused the fact that you can save/load anytime anywhere combined with the stat boosting fountains, which as a result turned the playthrough into pure boredom. It's my fault I guess. I should probably pick it up someday and try to run straight to the end boss to call it a day.
I've still never beat FF1 on NES due to the reset glitch. The first time it happened around the earth cave. A year or two later I started another game and got all the way to the final tower and it happened so I just never played the game again. The other big one was Rogue, but that's because we didn't have any manual for it so there was a ton I just didn't understand. I eventually did beat it a year ago or so though.
Even knowing how you're SUPPOSED to beat the level, I legit just can't do it. And the worst part is if you take a break from the game it's even more difficult to catch up to how far you could get. It genuinely feels like you're playing around the game's glitches
>>12474378Looking back, I didn't complete any of the NES and Genesis games I played on my dad's PC when I was a kid, except for Contra (short game) and Kirby's Adventure (it saved your progress). I was too young to use savestates and only played 30 minutes a day.I should download them and replay them soon.
>>12474419Fuck that game. They knew everyone hated it, hence the much better arcade port sequel. It should have been a slam dunk with the IP, but I know as a boy in the demographic for it on release, it was a huge letdown.Nice graphics at times, and great music, but the gameplay is fucking horse shit.
Lots of NES games I never finished because we only ever rented games besides the SMB/Duckhunt cartridge, a few old arcade games like qbert and Pac-Man that my dad liked. And Tetris which my mom liked. We did get SMB3 and Kirby. But I can’t remember how many unfinished games I rented. We were allowed to stay up late on Friday and Saturday playing. But not Sunday. And the games had to be dropped off on the third night anyway. I’ve had to try to replay on emulators over the years but never had the same enthusiasm.
>>12474378Athena is a tough one. It does not seem to be a game made by or for humans
>>12474419I got hard filtered by a jump near the end of level 3 for my entire childhood. Came back as an adult and beat it after looking up how to deal with that jump and that one hallway in the final level.
Battle of Olympus. Fucking Battle of Olympus.Mid 90's, no internet, no guides anywhere I knew of, not even Nintendo Power had much useful info about it. Gotta make your own maps since the game is intentionally confusing, and difficulty is Zelda 2 on steroids mostly due to fucked up enemies and bosses. Saving involved visiting Zeus and asking for a password, which was stupidly long. But I kept on playing, and playing. Before I finally got filtered and gave up, I had made it to the area before the final area, where you get the Moonstone. Had everything except the Moonstone, but that place was just too damn much and I got tired of getting knocked off into bottomless pits trying to make the trip.Probably for the best, the final area would have driven me to homicide.
I never beat a single crichtoncore game despite playing them a lot
>>12474378Guru Logi champI got horribly stuck in one of the later levels, and at the time I played there was almost no coverage online of this game so no walkthrough to cheat my way. Sucks, this game is really good. I hate being a retard
>>12474378Possibly the most pathetic contrived try hard bullshitposts I've seen here this year.
>>12474378As a kid? Megaman X. I played that shit constantly, but I never could make it through the final multi-phase boss fight. I would eventually give up and play through all the stages, the final areas, and reset after killing sigma's pet dog.
>>12474378The first Castlevania. I could reach Death only a handful of times, but I never beat it. I just didn't like the game enough to invest more time in it.
>>12474378My first console was a hand-me-down NES from my uncle. It had games like Gradius, Ghosts 'n Goblins and others that to this day I never beat, but also games like Mario which I did.>>12475532Never had any problem with MMX as a kid. But Mega Man 7? That last Wily fight filtered me for years. Never beat it on the NES, beat it years later on the PS2 collection.
>>12475881>Never beat it on the NESNobody beat it on the NES, because it was SNES :^)
Embarrassing thread. I always finish what I start. Maybe spend less time shitposting and more time beating those childhood games.
