i have no idea who asked for a video game about an obscure early 20th century comic strip, but there you go

i remember thinking the title sounded interesting but never got around to playing it

Yes. Reruns. Surely you're not implying that Gilligan's Island was somehow obscure in 1990.
>>
>>12474593
a show that was on 25 years ago was not a comic strip from 80 years ago even your grandparents likely didn't remember lol
>>

..It had a recent animated film adaptation, though it was still Japan-only at the time the game released.
>>
>>12474580
It's based on the anime movie that was released in 1989, that's why it credits TMS (the animation studio). Check the arcade game too.
>>
>>12474580
the game coincided with a new anime that bombed. it was actually an arcade game first before the nes version. information about it is kind of scant but i dont think the arcade was ever released in america. just japan and some places in europe. i looked into it a while back and could not find any images of a real cabinet. just some marquee pics from a recreation or something.

I wasn't referring to the OP, just the Gillian thing.
>>
Cute game, maybe a little too cute and aimed at 6-10 yos for my taste.
>>
Is this a new running shitpost?
Also there was a recently released movie at the time
>>
>>12474580
It was a movie tie-in for the 1989 anime theatrical film release. Japan loves little nemo, the little prince, and other childrens western fantasy.
For a movie game it was actually pretty decent on NES.
>>

it's Capcom it can't be that bad. just be lucky it wasn't made by Imagineering or something instead.
>>
A cute game, the Famicom version is a collector's item and expensive while US cartridges are cheap. It has Capcom's usual high standards and polish, although the difficulty can be fairly punishing.
>>
movie tie-in and also they just make up settings for games all the time so why the fuck would it upset you if they used an existing public domain ip?

I know they love Moomin
I never heard them caring about Little Nemo
>>

The video game and anime move are a filmication of a surreal, newspaper comic strip about the dreams of a child, with no coherent story, made from 1905-1911.

Something to point out this, movie and videogame, was a big deal in Japan. It was the start of cute childish dream land mangas, animes and videogames.

This

Graphically yes, gameplay wise it's just as difficult as Rockman, though I don't know if all of that were fully intentional, since some of it is due to the awkward sizes and controls of some of the animal forms.

Windsor McCay invented 2D animation as we know it. Anyone who went to art school and made cartoons, anime, or video games knew goddanm well who he was.

Also they made a movie at the time and the game was a tie-in for it.

>Immediately hit with wave of nostalgia
I had this on vhs in the early 90s and watched the heck out of it. I hadn't thought of that in 30 years. Didn't realize it's Japanese animation until now.
Doesn't seem like good fodder for a game, agreed.

millennial gamers would eat it up
