Have access to Digimon, Dragon Ball, Yu-Gi-Oh! and One Piece. Still fails. Why?
>>12474780Because everybody already had a gameboy for Pokémon.
>>12474780who wants to play on something named "swan"
>>12474780Too little too late. Pokemon had a tight grip on the handheld market, and Nintendo coordinated the releases of the GBC and GBA with the WS and WSC respectively, shutting them both out immediately.
The name sounds faggie as fuck.
needed more shmups
>>12474959That's why you bought it?
>>12474780because licensed games are 95% shit and dont sell consoles?
>>12474959faggy*
Nintendo's yakuza connections
>>12474886Jesus Christ...
>>12474978
>>12474780What kind of Yugioh games where there on this console?Yugioh had some Gameboy games including the very first card game video game and a capsule monsters game, the very first Yugioh game. I couldn't find anything about Yugioh games on the Wonderswan
>>12474780Because Bandai are fucking retarded. They tore defeat from the jaws of victory. They had zero faith in the wonderswan, despite having headhunted most of Nintendo's dream team of miracle working employees, and straight up warning Nintendo that the Wonderswan was in development. The dumbasses told them everything it could and would do when they tried to fucking sell the project to their would-be rivals. If they did literally anything else, they would have won. Nintendo was *this close* from abandoning the handheld and moving to a completely different project that, looking at the absurd price point it would go for, would have been a massive failure. Bandai would have won. Instead, they pushed Nintendo into releasing the Pocket, Color, and eventually Advance.
>>12475142>PocketPocket was already released before the WonderSwan was in development, it was the last thing Yokoi worked on before he jumped ship.
>>12474780JP exclusive + Yokoi's untimely death + Bandai having talent in fucking shit up for no good reasons. In a perfect world Yokoi would not get spread on the road like a fucking roadkill opossum, Bandai would actually have faith in their own fucking products and WS would be released outside of Japan.
>>12475234Shit, my bad. Thanks.
>>12474982Yes
Yeah, it just came out too late. Kind of like NES/SNES, Nintendo already had a death grip on the market and this competition didn't really do enough differently to make people switch over.
>>12474780Pokemania was in full swing by the time the Wonderswan released, I don't think Bandai could have really done anything to compete with the Gameboy line.
>>12474780Despite them failing to beat Nintendo they did manage to carve out a modest niche for themselves, but what's most puzzling to me about it is why it never released outside Japan. It had everything to sell at least well enough to be a viable alternative to the Gameboy but they backed out of the US release at the last minute despite already having a distribution deal worked out. The fact that it's literally not known why they backed out of the deal makes this one of the most puzzling events in vidya history to me.
It fared better than the neo-geo pocket.
>>12474829Yup. That's why Nintendo was so clever with the name Game Boy. Did Bandai expect swans to buy their handheld?
>>12475478just make a pokemon clone
>>12476145The "Pokemon" brand name on the box is literally the most important part of a Pokemon game and the main reason why they all sell like ten million copiesThe gameplay, the creature designs, the plot, and everything else is purely secondary to the branding.
>>12476148marketing would fix that
>>12476161It took companies two decades to replicate what Pokemania originally did. It was full on black magic for the time.
