Why do every single Jaguar game besides Rayman look like some cheap mishmash abomination of badly rendered 3D assets, crudely drawn MS Paint graphics, Word art, shitty photo collages and garish colors? Why does everything on Jaguar look so amateur? It's hideous!
It's like some kind of video game hell where everything graphically wrong lies. Nothing looks good. Nothing looks professional or made by artists.
The Jaguar could easily make better looking games than the SNES, but it seems that they couldn't hire real developers, just a bunch of washed out Amiga developers that couldn't migrate to real consoles and were stuck with the Jaguar.

Hideous games thread. And Jaguar general, I guess.

Small development teams and art direction wasn't their priority

all 3D games from this era looked like starfox-tier polygon trash. As far as 2D games, the issue stems from the fact that Jaguar was a western console, and japanese devs refuse to develop games for gaijin piggu consoles. And western devs for the most part just sucked donkey dick at making 2D artwork. There were of course exceptions, like Rayman, or Earthworm Jim, or the virgin interactive Disney games that had actual Disney animators make the sprites. But as a general rule of thumb, western studios of the time had the artistic talent of a kid making doodles in MS paint.

his Ballz Mahjong games looked pretty cool though.

yeah I always liked the look of Spherejongg, even if it's low-effort and generic

Having literal JPG artifacts in-game is probably the ugliest look for any game, thankfully that trend (if you can even call it that) died with the Jaguar, for the most part.

Keep lying, Rajesh

jaguar was one of those weird consoles only a weird family would buy.
you would go over and they wouldn't let you touch it, only watch the kid play it.
Then they lock you in the kids room and shut it off while they eat dinner.

Atari is just kind of a trash dev. Both hardware and software
>>
Western devs have the heart of a technician, but not the heart of an artisan

If they spent more time honing their craft instead of fuckin' and suckin' and snortin', they may have actually been competition for nintendo, but they got fucking steamrolled

that seem too specific

But they still had money. They could have at least hired some professionals

Yeah, that's another thing I noticed. Those aren't baldy compressed JPG screenshots. The games actually look like this.
It's a pretty unique looke and a complete nightmare.

Atari hired top men to make games

TOP MEN

For about 2.50 an hour.
