the halfpipe section is still fun to play. the story mode is a bit of a slog, but i still like taking a swing at it once in a while. might have to cheese through it with savestates some day. i don't think i ever beat whatever comes after the mall. wish some of the modes from the 1st game returned. they could have used the halfpipe for a new version of joust, or had another one of the alleyway levels where you beat the shit out of each other while skating out to the street where the cops are lol
god damn i want to play skate or die now. had it way back in the day, played it a decent amount and wasn't terrible at it

All of the games EA 'developed', save one, were ports of Commodore 64 titles. EA farmed out the ports. Mostly they were ported by Konami but Rare handled Jorden Vs. Bird. The only game they developed on the platform themselves was Skate or Die 2. It was also never ported to any other systems. Not surprising, as most other 6502 based systems were pretty much done by 1990 and the two year 'no ports to other systems' requirement Nintendo forced on developers basically guaranteed it would be an exclusive.

The thing that surprised me is how rare skateboarding games were in the 80s and early 90s. It was huge where I lived. Every kid I knew owned a skateboard and knew how to ride. There was a drought in California back in the day and kids would sneak into peoples back yards and skate in their empty pools while they were at work. Yet there were only a handful of games released that featured it. And lets be frank, most of them sucked. As best I could find, 12 games were released between 86 and 94 and 4 of them were in the Skate or Die series, 4 were compilation games which mostly featured other sports, and 2 were dogshit Atari console exclusives from Absolute Entertainment.

That opening for the C64 version of Skate or Die is solid though.

It's not nearly as rough as Deadly Towers. This game is quite playable (if you're patient and a bit generous) until the final stage, which is indeed a large, punishing, tedious maze. It's an okay game, mostly. The soundtrack and intro cutscene try very hard to carry it, and they fail, but not too badly.
