>thread talking about how Myrient is about to shut down gets all the replies
kek
>>
It did just start 15 minutes ago at like 4am.
I have nothing good to say other than "I've said this would be the outcome for weeks" - the site disappears and torrents appear. I guess I'm glad?
>>
>>12481714
>download a game
>gives me a .htm file
so this shit doesn't even work yet?
>>
>>12481745
Pure speculation, I haven't gone there.
It's possible they rushed the site code and had you downloaded the download page instead of linking you to it. Report the issue if they have contact info.
>>
That's great news, though it still isn't ideal, if you are limited on storage space and/or want a way to quickly download a specific file.
>>
>>12481758
>they can't be bothered to set up an email address
i'm not making a discord just for this
>>
>>12481714
It downloaded the entire PS1 library when I tried to download just one game, it still needs some work.
>>
>>12481714
Super slow torrents.
Tried to download a NES games but aborted it when the download was still not done after 10 minutes.
>>
>>12481770
I wouldn't either.
But what are you even looking for? I've never been to myrient. I can find any game I want in less than a minute from a google search. I've never not been able to find a game.
>>
>>12481714
It's been hilarious so far watching all the 70 IQ third world zoomers who've never used torrents before wailing in anguish because they can't figure out how they work.

>>12481771
Here's one now.
>>
>>12481786
They can't figure out
>download torrent client
>load torrent file or use magnet link
???
>>
>>12481786
I know you're just trying to look for your online boyfriends, but I can assure you, I know how torrents work. Anyway, I don't think it was the site's owners intentions to have you choose the game you want inside your Torrent client, no? If that was the case, what's the point of even allowing to look for specific games in their website?
>>
>>12481829
Valid.
>>
>>12481760
You have clearly never torrented anything before

r/ROMs on Reddit is in meltdown and full of ESL turd worlders raging against torrents and demanding direct downloads, claiming torrents are unsafe and will get you kicked off your ISP and may contain viruses. This project is doomed from the start, because the average game pirate is a retarded, angry, selfish brownoid emulating things on their phone.

>>12481829
As I said, a retard with no idea how torrents work. There are literally (literally) millions of files in play. The idea that there would be a unique torrent for every single one of them is so fucking stupid that it could only come from a brownoid. There are over 16,500 Commadore 64 cracktros in the TOSEC collection, for example, weighing in at a combined total of 116MB - and you want a unique torrent file for Intro V4 (19xx)(The Dominators), which is 1.58KB in size. Versus just having one fucking torrent per directory and you using the established tools that torrent clients have had since the dawn of human civilization to pick and choose which files you want.

It's always so fucking depressing when the kind of people you're posting alongside on the modern internet is brought to the fore. One simply imagines them to be White, and they're not. They're not.

You're so cool, /pol/tard-san. But you're right, it should be done like that for something of magnitude, however, my point still stands, the option to download singular games shouldn't be there if that's how it werks.
>>
>>12481878
The ROM situation is not dire. One site went down. It has happened many times. Yet every official game for almost any system is on almost every clear net ROM site accessible in 5 seconds on google.
>>
>>12481829
>Anyway, I don't think it was the site's owners intentions to have you choose the game you want inside your Torrent client, no?
This is a completely retarded premise lmao. Please just stop.
>>
>>12481714
I wonder how many people are going to be seeding the entire PS2 library torrent in the future.
>>
>>12481829
>Anyway, I don't think it was the site's owners intentions to have you choose the game you want inside your Torrent client, no?
That's exactly how people have been handling romset torrents for as long as people have been sharing romsets through torrents.
>>
>>12481957
Why would you have thousands of magnet link pages for each game when you could have one link to the set followed by a text list of included games?
I've been torrenting since Kazaa, but why do that?
>>
People still doesn't know you can select the files you want to download inside the torrent to avoid downloading the entire thing.
>>
>>12481989
Everyone knows that. I assume anyway.
But why have a page with a link for one specific game only to give you a full romsets magnet? It works, but why do it like that?
>>
>>12482021
my man its an anonymous image board you dont have to keep playing damage control you can just stop posting.
>>
>>12482040
This lol
>>
>>12481972
Kazaa wasn't torrenting
>>
>>12482040
I'm not that guy. I've been torrenting for 25-26 years. I know you can get a torrent for a TV show and pick only the episodes you want. We were torrenting in middle school on dial up with no guides, it isn't some impressive skill.
But why make a page for thousands of games that all redirect to the same magnet? It doesn't make sense.
>>
>>12482067
Technically true but I've been doing this since then, you think I've never seen a torrent in the 20+ years since?

The people behind the site claim they have seedboxes set up for all content, but then that's back to the problem of who's paying for those in the long run. It's just switching from server costs to seedbox costs.

>>12482068
So you can fucking find things and not have to dig through 30 different directories looking for the file you wanted. It isn't even like they set up a page manually for every single fucking file. It just pulls in the information dynamically and serves you up the relevant torrent file containing the specific file you wanted. That's a perfectly sensible system and allows any remotely competent person to take the reins from there and grab that file with their torrent client. It is quite literally how torrents work and have always worked. You are the stupid one if you think it doesn't make sense.

It's time to take a long, hard look in the mirror and ask yourself if you might be retarded, anon.
>>
>>12482110
I get that. But this site was specifically for people too idiotic to torrent or go to normal direct download sites.
The least they could do is have a blurb saying "this file is in this set" for the noobs.
>>
Let’s say I have the budget for 500TiB of storage and the hardware needed to run a server. I live in a rural area and can dedicate a Starlink Standard 4 X exclusively to hosting it. What would I need to learn to make it happen? Is it too complicated to do? And, hypothetically, what if I wanted to block access from India, Brazil, and Israel on my server?

>technically true
Factually true
>>
>>12482189
So it's factually true that I've been pirating P2P longer than torrenting existed and have witnessed firsthand the entire history of torrenting? You really showed me.
>>
>>12482206
No, I don't believe you for a second.
>>
>>12482215
I was born in '89 and started playing NES at 3 (family tells me 2, but that seems weird.
Why would it seem strange. Almost everyone in middle school in 00-04 did P2P. It was very common and has only gotten easier since. I think you're a zoomer for thinking torrenting is some unique difficult skill. I was using command lines in Linux and programming when I was 11. It's not impressive, and neither is figuring out how to torrent as a grown man.
>>
>>12482230
It's not impressive to be a grown man lying on the internet either yet you seem fairly proud of it.

Okay then. I don't need you to believe me. It was very common amongst normies back then. I guess you weren't there.

So how long until this turns into just the US roms of popular games on popular consoles being seeded? A month?

By the looks of it, it seems to already be the case. Though some anon sad they have seedboxes or something. We bird nows!
>>
>>12481714
But this is a static backup, right? Unlike Myrient, it won't be updated with new dumps and translations, or I'm missing something.
>>
>>12481848
Not in many years, because I never really have a need to. Are the myrient torrents set up for individual ROM/ISO/pdf downloads? I similarly rarely have a need to download games or magazine scans, but I sometimes do for various reasons, sometimes when I'm on my phone
>>
>>12482472
You're (or that anon) is trying to act smart and superior for knowing how to P2P. All I'm saying is that it was very common for middle schoolers to do it 25 years ago. It's not some impressive hidden skill.
>>
>>12482820
>It's not some impressive hidden skill.
This desu. It's incredibly easy to figure out. Unfortunately while it is easy to learn, it's not retard proof and many people on the internet are retarded and heard of the scary ISP letter.
>>
>>12482828
I've gotten the scary ISP letter. Not a big deal. Only happens if you're retarded like I was and pirated a $70 PC game the morning it released with no VPN or anything. Doesn't happen with anime and retro games.
