Why so much hate for hate Super Castlevania IV in recent years? I get that it's a bit weaker than it's contemporaries in the franchise, those being Bloodlines and Rondo of Blood, but when I played it I found it quite fun.

The 8-directional whipping doesn't invalidate the subweapons as much as people think. I still find the cross to be the most effective thing against those mudmen for example. It was overall a satisfying experience when I first played. I'd rank it high-mid tier as far as classicvanias go.

Egoraptor.
>>

It's too easy because it gives the player too much control, and the atmosphere is completely gone with the ugly muted colors and boring understated music.
Simply it lacks Castlevania's identity.
>>
>>12482858
It's problably the most popular classicvania

Stop invention non existent hate
>>
>>12482858
I think it has issues but I don't hold a gruge. the 8 way whip was something that made sense to try once and then they retired it.
>>
Vocal minorities and bait.
It's still a favorite by both mainstream public and CV fans.

To be fair, SCIV was DISGUSTINGLY overrated for the longest time, and that's not a good thing either. Now the pendulum has swung the other way but both sides have gotten so shitflingy about it that it's hard to find a happy middle. Most of the discussion around this game is downright dishonest.
>>
I'd rather play Magic Sword.
>>
>>12482890
It never felt this was the case.
If you go read the entry on Castlevania Dungeon (the oldest still alive CV fansite) it says "easier than the NES games, still not a walk in the park"
In recent years, bait exclamations like "the EASIEST classicvania!?" are common but as you said, discussion is dishonest. Not just with this game but in everything. Modern internet turned people this way but I digress

>Combat = poses no challenge
>Platforming = jank that sometimes leads to insta-death
>New mechanics = doesn't mesh with the fundamental game design
What's supposed to be good about this game again? Just seeing the sights and listening to the soundtrack?
>>
>>12482858
SCIV has the best platforming of any game in the series and is easily better than Bloodlines. It's inferior to Rondo though. CIV's biggest issues are that the boss fights are weak and pre-castle drags, they could've tightened things up.
>>
>>12482958
>jank that sometimes leads to insta-death
Get good
>instadeath bad!
There since CV1

People who never played it and get their opinions from Youtubers. Here is an example >>12482958
>Combat = poses no challenge
>New mechanics = doesn't mesh with the fundamental game design
Castlevania 3 had these and you never hear people complain. Opposite, everyone calls it the best of the OG 3. Alucard can skip whole rooms with his flying, Grant can do it too with wall climbing on top of cheesing a lot of enemies with his daggers and Sypha deletes every enemy with homing projectiles. Also trivializes almost every boss minus Dracula because the projectiles just circle around his hit points. The spell is very common and there are hearts everywhere.
>Platforming = jank
Lie
>leads to insta-death
Always been part of the series. CV3 has this trap here with a broken hitbox that instant kills you. The truth is, every CV after 1 was made easier because they sold less and less. Bloodlines had super charged powers and Eric was even more overpowered than Sypha.

CV4 is a good game. Easier yes but still challenging, great graphics and music. The hate is a new forced thing from posers. I consider Belmont's Revenge the easiest of the classics and it still one of my favorites.

That's why it gets hate on a board full of contrarians, dumbass.
I think it's a good game, but when people try to argue it's the best entry, it's laughable.

SCIV attracts contrarians like flies because the thing they want most in the world is to have some obvious truth they can push back against. If the thing they're arguing against isn't a near universal consensus then they don't feel special for swimming against the tide.

And in the case of SCIV that applies to pretty much everything. At the time of its release the consensus was, almost universally, that it had better graphics, better music, and better controls than the NES games. And people *did* note that it was easier than 1 and 3, but what people seem to be leaving out is that was generally considered a good thing. The biggest complaint 99% of people had about 3 was that it was ludicrously difficult. IV's difficulty isn't a problem, it's a solution.

So you see, with IV being considered an almost across-the-board improvement this gives tryhard edgelords so many opportunities to walk against the wind, express views that are completely contrary to the majority opinion and somehow act like this is how everyone thinks and has always though despite their opinions being deliberately manufactured to oppose the accepted majority views. The more these people screech about how bad and disliked something is, the more you can be assured it was both popular and good
>>
>>12483330
you are more unhinged than anyone who has ever posted a contrarian opinion about castlevania 4
>>
>>12482941
Every single Castlevania game is "a walk in the park".
>>
>>12482958
>Just seeing the sights and listening to the soundtrack?
Style IS substance you joyless brutalist.
>>
>>12483351
>very simple conclusion put in a quick easy statement to explain the thought
>nuh uh too many words you need to make the opinion in 7 words or less
>>
>>12483106
Castlevania 3 is overrated as fuck honestly. Broken and boring game with tedious as shit level design, especially the wait minutes for blocks to fall room.
>>
>>12482858
It genuinely feels like people don't even play the games
Everyone calling it "braindead easy" yet the platforming is actually finnicky as fuck in some parts. You'd think the haters would complain about the platforming but instead everyone just complains about how the omnidirectional whip "breaks the game" or something
>>
>>12483665
The internet hivemind just operates that way, it focus and certain things but ignores others. Clear example is how everyone gets a rush out of telling everyone that Super Mario All Stars changed the block physics on SMB1, but for some reason nobody mentions the fixed piranha plant hurtbox.
Anyway I don't think IV's platforming is finnicky, it's actually very precise and requires a lot of dexterity
>>
bland game beloved only by those who grew up with it
>>
>>12483980
Not my case.
Also claiming a highly acclaimed game is bland is just opinional and unimportan.
>>
>>12482862
>muted colors
Use the gamma filters that MiSTer has. Never realized how washed out retro games look on modern TVs until I used it
>>
>>12483850
>the fixed piranha plant hurtbox.
That rev was made in the E release of the NES SMB, before All Stars was made.
>Some enemies (more specifically: Piranhas, Bullet Bills, Goombas, Spinies, Bloopers, and Cheep Cheeps) have a larger hitbox.
