It's spring and baseball season is here. LJN and Sculptured Software are the winning team you need to power you to the World Series. You can't lose with that roster, that's for sure.

It's still not the worst NES/FC baseball game ever, not when Moero Pro Yakyuui 3 and Exciting Baseball exist. But the worst one in the US library definitely. Shit feels like a C64 game from 1985.

god, why

I grew up playing Hardball! on the Apple IIGS. Shit's amazing.
Also Ken Griffey Jr N64, that was the best baseball game ever.

the worst one was LJN's previous luckswing game. Roger Clemens is at least sort of playable even if the dynamic camera gimmick doesn't quite work and they had an actually adequate ROM size instead of CNROM this time.

meh just play the SNES version instead
>>
Baseball vidya didn't get good until 3D
And even then most of it sucked
Just play MVP Baseball 2005 or The Show 2007.

cartridge era sports games should just be thought of as arcade games with a sports theme, they're not really trying to be gritty super-realistic sims where you can see the beads of sweat on the players' faces.
>>
Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball on the SNES was sick though.

Meh, I still prefer 3D for arcade style sports as well. There was The Bigs on PS2 and Ken Griffey for N64, and Mario of course. Only truly fun 2D sports game I've ever tried was NBA Jam, but there wasn't much else like it out there (and even then NBA Showtime is almost as fun).

the 8-bit ones are pretty much glorified Tiger handheld games
>>

some did try to be as realistic as possible. baseball was the sport that most easily translated to 2D.

The super famista series on super famicom is peak 2d baseball. Bad News Baseball and RBI Baseball III for Nes are also very good. Bases Loaded series is decent but the fielding is kind of shitty and I don’t like the batting as much as the games I mentioned. Griffey Jr is the goat arcade-y 2d baseball game.

Yall are crazy, RC mvp baseball is so much fun it’s ridiculous. Bash bros ftw as I said in the other baseball thread.

It's Al Michaels Announces Hardball III for me. As far as I know it's the deepest and most customizable 16-bit baseball game. Hardball '95 technically has more to it but it's not as good and has the shittier restructured divisions with wildcards.

Basketball otoh just doesn't work as a video game period as the sport is too free-form.

I disagree, just being able to pass and shoot the ball pretty solidly covers the necessities of the sport. there are strategies and plays, you just have to be able to recognise them.
