Why did we never get the Green version?
>>12483336Red and Blue are more seen as paired / rival colors in the US than Red and Green, which are primarily seen there as representing Christmas.
>>12483349Is this not the case everywhere? I thought the fire vs water and red vs blue thing is universal t. american
>>12483336Whatever the reason, Game Freak clearly regrets the decision and has since tried to insist that it was always Red and Green everywhere.
Always assumed it was cause the weird flower plant monster wasn't terribly marketable in the west. Seems like something that would fly more with the dragon quest crowd.
>>12483336blue version came out in japan as an upgrade to green and red, so they used that version as the base and chose red as it's counterpart since it's a more contrasting color. There was no need for 3 versions of the same game when you can get a better selection of version exclusive mons with 2 games. The only reason yellow got released outside of japan is pokemania had already taken hold so they could afford the risk for a cash grab.
>>12483359Apparently the japs don't even think that green = accept and red = cancel
>>12483336We got it, kinda...JP got Red and Green first and then Blue with shuffled around roster, new sprites and bugfixes.EN Red and Blue were weird amalgamations that used sprites from JP Red, rosters from JP Red/Green and engine from JP Blue.We actually lack counterpart to JP Blue, with maybe sprites from JP Green but desu I'm pretty sure that localizers would not allow for these abominations to exist.
>>12483336US Red/Blue are part JP Blue and part JP Red/Green.So think of it as the US release being RedBlue and GreenBlue.Which is why we have exclusive glitches that aren't found in JP Blue/Red/Green. By mashing the code from JP Blue onto JP Red/Green, there's some quirks to it.If you wanted to play the original Green, there's a English translation for it.
>>12483336leafs and burgers don't like vegetables
>>12483336Technically you didn't even get red version, you only got blue version.
>>12483425>EN Red and Blue were weird amalgamations that used sprites from JP RedFalse

>>12483425US Red and Blue were both Japanese Blue with the rosters swapped with the rosters from Japanese Red (for US Red) and Green (for US Blue). This mishmash caused its share of issues, most notably the guy who says his Raichu evolved.

>>12483336Blue and Green are said the same way in Japanese, "aoi."
>>12483425International Red and Blue used the Pokémon sprites and overworld tiles from JP Blue

green and blue were considered the same color in Japan which is why I assume they went for green first as the "opposite" of red. Also maybe has to do with red/fire being destruction and green/grass being life.
>>12484718Green is midori, you retard.
>>12485248midori is a relatively new word. for a long fucking time green was considered a shade of blue in japanese culture(forest blue as opposed to sky blue) and Aoi was used for both. even today in poetry aoi can be used for green.
