This is a great game but imagine playing it without a guide. Literally impossible
>>
Nuh uh press start
>>

Apparently the characters tell you where to go.

I'm not fucking reading when I'm playing a game lol lmao even
>>
>>12484258
You won't read in-game dialogues but you'd read guides that lay out exactly what you're supposed to do? You have no problem with the reading itself, you're a brainlet.
>>
>>12484262
>you'd read guides
You know there's something called videos now, unc?
>>
>>12484268
Why even play the game?
Just watch the video instead zoomosaurus

I cant think of anything in the game that needs a guide

The 0.50 OpenMW has fully supported menuing for controllers and Morrowind is a peak comfy and playable experience now. Apparently all I needed to actually get into Morrowind was seamless controller support

I read dialogue no problem and I assigned the journal to left trigger. The journal is really useful and it really gets me engaged since I'm not just mindlessly chasing quest markers. It's not like it's all paragraphs of wankery, NPCs are sharp and to the point when spoken to, and the Journal will summarize it even more concisely

I rolled an Altmer with sneak for stealing and backstabs, long blade for using big two handed swords, light armor for less encumberance, illusion for paralysis and magic-sneaking, alteration to break locks and levitate places, athletics to go fast, alchemy to make magicka restoration potions, enchant for efficient use of little fatigue and health restoration trinkets, armorer to efficiently repair my gear, and mercantile for more coin.

Theives guild quests payed me so much coin! The imperial cult also has had a surprising number of benefits. I'm also working for house Redoran, Fighter's Guild, Mage's Guild, East Empire Company, the Temple, and the Morag Tong.

Why bump with a shitty ai slop post?

None of the mechanics are explained at all
>>
>>12485016
the manual explains that fatigue affects how easy it is to hit, it explains major and minor skills and how increasing skills affects level ups, it explains what all the spells do, it explains what all the skills do, it tells you about spell making and disposition, it explains that the journal tells you how to progress in a quest. What mechanics are not explained?
>>
>>12484386
I do recall there was a quest in skhaal village that had me so stumped that I walked to the local library so I could use their computer lab to look up a guide on the internet.
>>
>>12484243
I beat in on the xbox without a guide when I was nine. I'm not smart so you have no excuse.
>>
>>12485027
The only thing that's messed up - and is clearly unintended - is that they added a plus instead of minus for blind: The end of the hit calculation has "+ Blind Magnitude" instead of minus.

Does the manual and map that come with it count as a guide? If so yes, most people will need the "guide" to get through the game without problems.
If it doesn't count as a guide, then no.
>>
Just fucking talk to NPCs and click on the blue words and then the journal will tell you all the directions. Opening your journal and reading 'turn right here' only takes three more seconds then pressing the map key and seeing where you are, except the former is more immersive and forces you to focus on your surroundings. You'd have to be really stupid to need a guide. It's not Ultima.
>>
OP is right. The best way to play Morrowind is with an online map. The manual genuinely is required reading, but some NPCs actually give retardedly wrong directions that make finding some things incredibly difficult. I like that though -- it adds to the realism of the game. But it can get tedious without an online map. Some things are genuinely impossible to find without a map too
>>
>>12484386
same. unless you're completely new to rpg there's nothing complicated or obscure in morrowind.
>>
>>12485689
The game came with a map which is entirely adequate. And only one NPC gives you incorrect directrions, switching east and west, and that's one of the many bugs fixed by Patch for Purists
>>
>>12484243
I started this game when I was too young to understand how it works, and over the years I only figured it all out just playing. You will never be able to get to my level OP.
>>
Having played both Morrowind and Oblivion Remastered recently, it finally clicked for me how revolutionary Oblivion actually was when it came out.

Voice acting, face animations, NPC schedules and dialogue between NPCs and radiant AI, physics, weapon hits without dice rolls, skill feats, stealth based on lighting and a gradual detection meter; the list goes on. The only thing that was sacrificed for all of that was the Journal. Morrowind's journal system and helpful directions for quests is much better than Oblivion's quest markers.

Morrowind is a great game but it's really outdated.

Have they finally fixed the frame rate?
>>

no idea, works on my machine.
>>
>>12485721
>The game came with a map which is entirely adequate
No it's not. There is even a location submerged under a thin layer of water miles away from any significant marked location. Inside is a unique item. 99.99% of players would never find it organically. Even knowing where it is, it's difficult to find.

>And only one NPC gives you incorrect directrions,
Wrong. There's someone who directs you to some shrine or mine outside of Balmoral. He tells you to turn right at the second fork in the road, but the directions are wrong.
>>
>>12488284
I assume people like you cling to maps and desperately need to see all the pixels in the game I MUST KNOW THE LOCATION OF THIS SECRET SWORD YOU CANNOT HIDE THIS FROM ME MY FATHER IS A VERY POWERFUL MAN because you yourself missed out on the golden age of gaming and society in general and youve developed a complex about it.

>Oh god the NPC said the wrong thing I can NEVER find this mine thats connected on a road this is so tedious how can I be expected to explore places on my own my time is running out im about to hit 30 oh god my youth is slipping away quick whats new on tiktok get this video essay up on my other monitor I need more stimulation im missing out on so much oh god oh god im wasting away WHERE IS THIS MINE I NEED A PATCH I NEED A MAP WHERE IS THE MAP MARKER WHERE IS MY MOM

>>

>>

>won't read in-game dialogue
>will read guide that walks him through the game
At this point you might as well read a book instead of playing a video game.
>>
>>12488297
>I assume
You shouldn't do that because you sound like a schizo retard when you make blatantly wrong assumptions

>AHHHH oh my LAND oh no how could you even DARE to use an ONLINE MAP AGHHHHH you are RUINING the sanctity of the GAME! It is NOT what the devs intended!!!! And you are losing gamerscore by using online maps and walkthroughs and FAQs and message boards. ames are actually better if you don't actually DISCUSS them with people and DONT discover everything in them!!
See? I can make you sound insane, too.
>>
A lot of the areas in the game are like a maze and I can’t tell if it’s on purpose or not. I’m playing through the main quest and areas like the Dwemer ruins and Vivec are just confusing to navigate. After a while I’ll have to look up a guide just to see where tf I’m going because I don’t have all day to look for a door
>>
>>12484243
I spent hours creating the best possible version with the best mods, but my external hard drive died :(
>>
>>12488737
best version is just the latest OpenMW on a controller with really basic things, like Oblivion-remastered styled attribute allocation on level up. Tamriel Rebuilt if you want extended vanilla content. Because Morrowind is best without being janked up by mods.
>>
>>12488284
>No it's not
That item is not required to beat the main quest or any of the faction quests. You might as well complain that the one Daedric pauldron in that cave doesn't have a sign pointing to it.
The thing that usually hangs people up on a Morrowind playthrough is the teeth of the wind, which is easy to find if you just look at the map.

>Wrong
And I'm pretty sure that's the guy I was talking about, mr. needlessly aggressive
>>
>>12488757
Instant Herb mod is mandatory though
>>
>>12488241
>Having played both Morrowind and Oblivion Remastered recently, it finally clicked for me how revolutionary Oblivion actually was when it came out.

I just installed Oblivion Remastered myself a few weeks ago. It's obviously very impressive all around but the one Achilles heel that a lot of people talk about is the level scaling.

Enemies level up with you as you get more powerful. This kills the sense of progression. I don't even know if I want to bother continue playing. Might get back into Morrowind soon actually.
>>
>>12488762
not really. doesn't really change anything to have it.
