I'm seriously thinking of selling my CRT and buying one of these. Anybody have experience with this? Should I get the black one or is the CE good enough?
>>12484387I only have the 5x Pro.If you're going to buy this, don't sell your CRT right away. Keep it for awhile. Honestly, up to a year. You'll know if it's good enough to you to replace your CRT
>selling my CRT and buying one of thesewhat the actual fuck is wrong with you
>>12484430Thanks, was thinking of doing that or maybe just keeping my CRTs but using them a lot less. I have one 27" that I'm gonna keep no matter what and a 30" widescreen that I was thinking I could drop for the 4k. Just want to know what other people have done in this situation before and best way to navigate it. The widescreen I'm thinking of selling is a very late SD model that is pretty rare and I doubt I'd ever find one in the wild again if I sell it, but two CRTs take up a lot of space.
>>12484387Nigga if you're using a flatscreen TV then just emulate, you don't need this $600 piece of snake oil.
>>12484387>Sell stuff that just works just to consoomJust kill yourself. You'll regret selling your CRT, but you're way too stupid and retarded to think about how your actions might affect you in the future.
>I'm actually thinking of ditching my loyal, hot, sexually active wife for a blowup doll
>>12484387You don't belong in this hobby faggot. What problem are you even trying to solve besides having too much money while also being a complete retard?
>>12484387>selling my CRTbut then how will you play lightgun games?i looked into retrotinks a lot for a long time but could never find any solid gameplay comparison showing normal LCD TV vs retrotink side by side. they all just compare different retrotink versions to eachother. i do watch some streamers who use retrotinks and they do look great compared to streamers who don't though. could be some other things contributing to the better quality too though.
>>12484487I like my tvs like my women, small, heavy, well used, and dead for twenty years
>>12484387I definitely prefer playing on my 4k TV with my MiSTer over CRT. I usually just use raw pixels, sharp bilinear, and the CRT gamma filter so the colors don't look washed out. If I use a shader, it's usually just a simple grid or scanlines to crisp up the image a bitAs far as 4K CE, I think the only major feature it's missing is 30fps reverse telecine to play 480i 30fps games at 30fps 480p, and it has slightly less fancy CRT shaders I think
>>12484449I got rid of my CRT when it was just sitting there for years in favor of emulation. It wasn't very fun to play on and had the worst geometry imaginable that wasn't fixable. I don't even use my 5x Pro that much either. It's just there as an option. This is coming from someone who grew up with CRTs.Like I said keep at least one CRT. Honestly if you have the space just keep whatever you have because they're not very easy to get anymore. I don't really care for CRTs anymore but if you find yourself not using it for years then yeah get rid of it. Or have a corner with a spare console if you have it hooked up so you can have what used to be authentic back in the day. If I still had mine I'd do that, but I'd also not be using it either. Also the regular 4k is too expensive for what it is. You're better off emulating. Just basing that off my experience on the 5x Pro
>>12484387Keep the CRT for gungames (that you COULD emulate with an LCD capable gun of course).Otherwise play everything on an OLED with a Morph 4k, Tink 4k and CE are too much money. Morph 4k can even input 1080p (like the fake shit from ps3/360) and enhance it.
>>12484387>paying $900 for retroarch filtershardwarefags are so fucking weird
>>12484387Total waste of money.
>>12484387No, it doesn't replace a CRT.
>CEDamn, you a poorfag or something? How are you gonna explain getting the poorfag version when your fellow Retrotink4K owners talk about the real thing? They even made it white, so your poorfag empty wallet will be sticking out like a bright shining sore thumb among your other devices. For real though, you could get one, but it's not gonna replace a CRT. I use a scaler solely for recording high-quality gameplay footage. My own viewing still happens on the CRT. Only when the TV eventually explodes, I might stick with just the scaler on a modern HDTV.Also, if you're just worried about casually playing games and having them look nice, stop looking at the Retrotink4K shit. It's too expensive. The true target audience for those consists of maybe 10 people worldwide, and they know exactly what they want the device for. Anyone else buying a Retrotink4K are FOMO faggots who feel inadequate if they don't buy the absolute top of the line product, even though they don't use or understand a single of the features that makes it unique.Your final stop in terms of scalers is the Retrotink5x, or an OSSC Pro. They are half the price and they will look fantastic. The latter includes features that even the Retrotink4K CE doesn't have. You could spend even less, but it depends on what systems you use.
>>12484387thumbnail looks like old avaya system, thought i stumbled into some phreaking thread by accident
>>12484506The only CRT we still have only gets used for VHS tapes, I haven't used it for games since I sold my Saturn and I only kept that because emulation for it was so shit for so long. I always hated CRTs, long before better screens would start to come about.
>>12484387My wife prefers the black retrotink but personally I think the white one is good enough. Just miss out on some really good blurring for crt effects and misc shit like that. I think they're both pretty good devices.
>>12486575Yeah I bet your wife prefers it black if you're the sort of faggot buying retrotinks
>>12486584stop watching cuck porn
>>12486584She's really into shmups above all else, so she swears by the roTATE feature combined with bfi. Can't do that on the cheaper one.
>>12484496>i looked into retrotinks a lot for a long time but could never find any solid gameplay comparison showing normal LCD TV vs retrotink side by side. It's hard to get proper testing with this stuff because it's all hobbyists and casuals. The simplest thing I can say about upscalers is that they take ALL the bullshit out of dealing with LCD TVs out of the equation. Some LCDs are better than others but every single one will have SOME amount of BS you'll have to deal with, be it input lag, turning 240p into 480i just to deinterlace it erroneously, weird HQ2X like upscaling making everything look like 90s ZSNES or weird desyncs because it doesn't like dealing with 60.1Hz and 57Hz and other nonsense. Oh and, 240p->480i->240p modeswitching in some games is always a fucker on LCDs.Buy a retrotink and you won't need to deal with any of that. Also no modern LCD has anything other than HDMI and all the cheap comp/RGB to HDMI converters are just the worst of the worst upscalers stuck in a box and sold to you through an aliexpress reseller so if you have to buy a box, might as well spring for a good one.
