I want the truth

>I want the truth
I'm trans. NGC is better. Mua
>>
Aren't the PC ports of these games severely broken?
>>
>>12484885
Streets of LA is a 5/10 game
New York City is 6.5/10
an not retro but Slopping Dogshit is 6/10
>>
>>12485008
Your opinion is wrong
Streets of LA is a 7/10
New York is a 6/10
Sleeping Dogs is a 7.5/10
>>
>>12484885

They're both kind of shit, but the PS2 versions are the best way to experience them.
>>
>>12484885
Another multiplat that's objectively superior on the PowerhouSe2
many such cases
>>
The truth is the ps2 version of LA stared me at one place for long enough so I eventually bought it and played for 15 minutes and haven't tried again since. I guess it must have been a different thing to play it when it came out.
>>
My dad had one of the True Crime games, and all I remember is that at one part you're in hell fist fighting demos or something lmfao.
>>
>>12484885
ITS THE TRUTH
CRIME IN LA IS THROUGH THE ROOF
AND THEY'LL SHOOT YOU IF YOU COME IN AND TESTIFY WITH THE PROOF
>>
I hate both of these games.
I mean couldn't they hire someone who can program something at least resembling the physics of driving a car!!
>>
>>12484885
All I really remember was that if you turned off certain songs that were meant to be played on certain levels on the GameCube, the game would freeze and make that annoying buzzing sound.
>>
why are these games so popular, even now, they're mediocre at best
>>
>>12484885
New York looks great for a ps2 game but unfortunately both games control like ass. Car controls are especially bad.
Shame, thought I had found a gem of sorts but no, fighting against controls more than playing the game isn't fun.
>>
I played LA and hardly remember anything except some repetitiveness and jank but I do remember liking it enough to 100% it despite any jank.
>>
>>12484885
The only thing the first game has going for it is Christopher Walken and arresting people in empty the open world. The combat is of that era, meaning you have nothing but useless attacks and no way to break enemy guards so you just spam things and hope it works. It's a really stupid game that I rented a lot as a kid.
>>
>>12484885
How did Gamecube have these but not GTA?
>>
>>12485580
Activision, marketing, Rockstar and GTA-likes.
>>
I remember those games being fun before getting repetitive. Shooting people in the kneecaps is always fun.
True crime LA feels like The Shield. Just another Gaaaaame

6th gen open world slop. I was there. We all thought it was slop and was a weekend rental at best
>>
>>12484885
well in NYC you get to play as a black guy
>>
tried playing TC:NYC the other day on a flippydrive with a friend
it did not run well on there (or the game just runs like shit, idk) and he turned all the audio except sound effects and voice to 5% creating a fucking mess of an experience
good time
>>
>>12486293
iirc on the og xbox version, you have to do some gay speedrunning glitch to skip a mission or else you won't be able to finish the story due to a game breaking bug kek

thats pretty much a rule

I do

Crime in LA is through the roof and they'll shoot you if you testify with the truth.
>>
>>12484967
Just like the console versions but yeah the pc versions are much worse.
>>
>>12486505
You want some more fun shit? True crime new york on GC divides by zero a lot and the devs wrote a custom exception handler precisely to capture these and turn it into a value the gamecube can actually use.

>>
>>12484885
New York City was a better game, LA was a better story
>>
>>12484885
New York is better in concept but it's so buggy that LA wins by default simply because it works.

>>12485612
it's like 95% driving to a mission objective. everything that people complain GTA is like, True Crime actually is. having a true-to-scale Los Angeles was an incredibly stupid idea. if you cut out the driving, the game is legit maybe 7 hours long. I have no idea why they decided to make a 'Chinatown kung fu movie' and set it in LA, it should've been San Francisco. the 1:1 map would've been far more manageable as well.

>7 hour long
But it is
>>
>>12485008
If True Crime NYC is 6.5 then GTA SA is 4.0.
>>
>>12487240
>everything that people complain GTA is like, True Crime actually is. having a true-to-scale Los Angeles was an incredibly stupid idea
True Crime has more things to do in between locations. There are random events and takedown missions that make exploration less boring.
>>
>>12484885
I remember playing the one on the right on my gamecube because gta wasnt available on it. I was very confused with the last level and i could never beat it, it was my friends copy so i gave it back without ever actually finishing it.
>>
>>12487331
Also does anyone know is the gamecube version is smaller or something, apparently streets of la is supposed to be larger than even San Andreas but i remember the map being pretty small.
>>
>>12487339
oh wow im looking it up and the gamecube version sucks ass. Also apparently the lart i got to wasn't the ending, when you fight those asian dragon things. I only got 2/3rds through the game. Maybe thats why i remember it being small, the gc version maybe just sucked. Might track down the PC version one of this days.
>>
>>12487330
you can slap handcuffs on random pedestrians, and that's it.
>ackshually True Crime has more side content than GTA
contrarianism only goes so far before it crosses the line into outright retardation
>>

>Broken
Exaggeration
>>
>>12484885
Fight for NY has beetlejuice green in it.
>>
LA has a truly fantastic selection of music on the soundtrack.
>>
>>12484885
1 is good but the city feels lifeless and bland.
2 is bad and every port has issues, but has one of most soulful rendition of NYC
Sleeping Dogs is great
>>
>>12487350
Never play LA on anything other than the ps2.
>>
>>12488002
why not pc?
>>
>>12488086
Every other version is significantly worse than the ps2 version and that is already a buggy, semi broken game.
>>
>>12488094
noted. now the mystery as to why i remember the map being so small.
>>
>>12488115
'cuz you only followed the mission waypoints and they only take you across a relatively small part of the huge map.
>>
Look at Mafia 1 and 2.
Driving physics was our priority. Because without it it's an absolute waste.
>>
>>12488129
at least one mission takes you all the way out to Santa Monica, and the final mission is in LA's Chinatown which is just north of Skid Row. the eastern and western extremes of the map.
>>
I can't remember, can you use the subway in TC NYC? I remember taxis were usable. subways would allow you to cut out most of the terrible driving
>>
>>12485580
True Crime LA got a big boost by being on the very first GTA-likes after GTA3 blew up (along with The Getaway)
>>
>>12489348
What about Mafia
