Somehow I ended up with a physical copy back in the day. It's bad and it's not just a meme. It was always bad. Even with cheats it's still dog shit, so it's not just the difficulty. In fact a dog could probably shit a better game. There's probably never been a game that deserves its reputation more than Superman 64. I mean even E.T. for the Atari 26000 can be appreciate as a rushed but still fairly complete game, and most of the NES games that people think are bad are actually just hard or obscure. Not the case with this one.

It's not great by any means, but if it had gotten a couple of more weeks for Warshaw to stone down rough edges, it'd have been regarded as ok for the time period.

It's so bad, I couldn't even believe it was real when I played it at like 11 years old. I remember looking through the main menu trying to see if maybe there was something I was missing. I don't think I even made it past the second set of rings
