KonamiSOTN is a top 10 ost ever
>>12485613Sega had to have some wizards working for them when you compare third party Genesis games and their terrible farty sound with something like this:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJhTNfZ56-g
Namco overallyBut they only began to shine from 5th gen onwardsKonami was best for 8 but and 16 bit eras
Konami in the 8 bit era, Namco after that
This streak is unbeatable
>>12485613Literally impossible choice overall so I'll group them into years.>1980sKonami>1989-1995Sega>1996-2000Namco>2000sKonami>2010s+None of them rate anymore desu.
Sega and it's not close.
Konami and Sega. They both consistently put out great soundtracks.I only played a small handful of namco games until after the 32bit era so I can't really judge (Tekken, Tekken 2, Tales of Destiny, Tales of Eternia)
>>12485613Konami > Sega > Namco
>people putting Namco lastWhy, almost all their franchises have great musicAce CombatTekkenSoul CaliburRidge RacerAside from 16 and 8 bit Konami only has Metal Gear and Silent Hill And while Sega isn't bad there isn't anything that directly comes to mind that is in the same level as the two above
Capcom and Sunsoft also had some very strong compositions in the 8 bit era.
>>12486192For me it was Soul Edge and Ridge Racer 2
>>12485613the one that took the most place in your childhood.
>>12486460This is such a gay non-answer
>>12486460That is such a correct clever answer
>>12485613namco>>12485652>Sega had to have some wizards working for them not really. they had better audio drivers and usually had "sound programmers" employed solely to work on drivers and to covert sheet music, midi data or transcribe audio recordings to MML or variant of it along with creating all of the instruments for it. i lost a lot of respect for some jap composers as quite a large number of them have never seen the source code of a music driver nor were forced to program one. basically phoned it in.
>>12486202sunsoft were pretty fucking amazing when it came to audio in their games no matter the platform

How about we make it more interesting for once8bit Konami vs 16bit Konami5th gen Namco vs 6th gen Namco
>>12485613Konami due to Metal Gear Solid's soundtrack
>>12485613SEGA and it's not even close
>>12486579>never seen the source code of a music driver nor were forced to program one. basically phoned it in.But that's basically the right way of doing it. The guy with musical talent composes based loosely around the limitations of the sound hardware, someone with the programming chops converts it to a custom audio driver. Getting someone who is suitably skilled in both is a rare thing. Much of the reason western games had shitty music was because they'd hire a musician to bang out some midi and then one of the programmers would be tasked with doing a slapdash conversion based on whatever the provided driver did and would have neither the time nor experience necessary to make their own patches.
>>12485613Zuntata rocks them all
>>12485613
>>12486192>Aside from 16 and 8 bit Konami only has Metal Gear and Silent Hill Konami's output for the Winning Eleven series eclipses any other soundtrack they've ever did, the best sports osts ever created, very consistent year after year>>12485613Sega has the most memorable distinct retrovidya tunes imo, but I'm quite partial to Tecmo also (NG, CT2, MR)
>>12486823>take anons post>just edit it to be "muh westerners! amirite?"lmao. this board's status as a dumpster fire is confirmed and witnessed.
>>12485613I can see why you limited it to these three.
>>12487168>>12486192I forgot ZOE, Suikoden and Castlevania for KonamiAnd Streets of Rage and Shinobi for Sega
