I never saw any of these mentioned here. What are your thoughts?

2 is the best Spider-Man game. 1 is a pretty cool action game. Without free-roam it focused more on combat. 3 is alright I suppose. At the very least it has ugly character models and pretty funny cutscenes--especially the ones where you fail qtes.

They're all pretty solid. I can't tell you how many hours I put into Spider-Man 2. I'd wake up before school just to swing around.
>>
I only played the first one. I thought it was fucking insane that you can play through the entire game as the Green Goblin.

First one had some of the best unlockables in the series. They made a small, mediocre game but were sure to fill it with some neat stuff.

2 is, I'm sure we can all agree, the goat of Spider-man games and still preferred to this day even over the ps4 titles. They just got the feeling of swinging just right. Simple to pick up, hard to master. You really felt like you were Spider-man. Oddly, more so than even the newer games.

Is this a shitpost we literally had a spider-man thread for the past week. The one w the guy quoting part of the game and OPs pic was of the GameCube version. I guess bots are just posting nonsense now. Not sure why, u can check the archive if it isn’t even still up on the board.

Each of these is hard as fuck for no reason. I definitely enjoyed playing them and they hold a special place in my heart but they me raging as a little kid. I've come to realize over the years of watching speedruns and replaying it myself that 1 is objectively the most difficult and technically demanding. That is if you don't abuse the fuck out of the cheat codes like everyone did as a kid. I have the fondest memories of it because you could just select any level and then play it with god mode or as the Green Goblin. I imagine it probably felt really rewarding to earn these things by beating the game legit but I looked up all the codes online lmao.

Another realization I've had after seeing speedruns and playing it as an adult is that 2 is comically easy if you just spam the slow motion and dodge mechanics. It's so simple to juggle and stun lock enemies and the same thing can happen to you. You get ragdolled all over the place from the slightest touch making it borderline impossible and unfun to play 'fair' if you wanted to. That and obviously the lack of unlockable content or cheat codes is why I never understood why this was called the best Spider-Man title outside of the swinging. That is very nice and all but I had my fill of just swinging or rather flying around aimlessly in the first one. If I really wanted to do that, I would just boot up Ultimate. It's prettier to look at, has pretty much the same swinging system and you don't have to hear MY BALLOON!!! every 5 minutes.

Both versions of 3 are unfortunately overshadowed by all the memes just like the movie they're based on. Everything about them was rushed and unpolished, executives were more concerned with appealing to the widest crowd possible. That's why there's a port of it on nearly every console known to man except Gamecube and Xbox the First for some reason. In my opinion, that's what really killed this game's perception. They should have just gone all in on the 7th gen version and not spread resources so thin. As we can see with the later release of Web of Shadows, which is literally just a lightly modded Spider-Man 3, was able to be compressed to fit on the Wii with the only slight compromise being graphics.

This may not have been achievable with the PS2 but it didn't have to be. Most studios learned it's better to just skip a port instead of deliberately making it shitty and nothing like what's advertised long before 2007. Ironically because of disaster ports like Spider-Man 2 on PC that just pissed people off. That's what a lot of kids like me were when they asked for Spider-Man 3 and their parents brought home the inferior PS2 port. I still played it even after I eventually got the PS3 version because it grew on me but the majority just did not give it a chance. Why would you? It is definitely the worst looking game of the bunch and continues the trend of continually downgrading from the beautiful graphics in 1.

The gameplay is alright but it feels very small compared to the other two. There's only ever 1-3 enemies on screen and outside of a few boss battles, they pose no real threat. Spider-Man feels extremely overpowered even without the black suit which I'll give points for them letting you switch it on and off. Don't even get me started on the swinging which they didn't even attempt to make feel fun. This is all because the experience was designed to be exactly the same as what's offered on the PSP which I've always found beyond insulting.

Since you seem to be in the know, what in the ever loving fuck is w the prices for these games? Like maybe it’s changed but last I checked all the ps3/360 spiderman games whether ports or originals are priced so fucking high, when as u said, the earlier games like spiderman 1 were infinitely superior (imo). I get why the 360/ps3 port of Wolverine is expensive because from what I understand it was super violent/ could sever limbs and things unlike the ps2/xbox/GC(if there was a gc port I can’t remember) but my god, iirc all these spiderman games after 2 were reviewed poorly and used to be super cheap. Just curious as to why things like web of shadows, amazing spiderman 1-2, shattered dimensions and edge of time (again last time I checked) all go for almost retail price used. Any insight on that?

Nearly all Marvel games from 2014 and earlier are delisted from digital storefronts when Activision lost the license to those properties. They cannot be legally acquired by any means other than paying out the ass to key resellers or finding a physical copy. There's also very little chance of them ever being relisted or remastered for modern consoles. There has only ever been one exception, the 2013 Deadpool game that was remastered for PS4 and put back on Steam in 2015. No one even knows for sure how or why this happened because it's never been officially confirmed. The theory is that Marvel allowed it just as promotion for the movie then delisted again not long after.

Anyway that is the main reason all of these games prices are so ridiculous, even the bad ones. It seems it will remain that way forever. Each Spider-Man game game does have its own little story as to why it goes for the price that it does.

The PS3 version of Spider-Man 3 has DLC where you can play as the Harry Osborn New Goblin in free roam. You just have to download it off the PS3 store while it still functions. This or getting the even more expensive Collector's Edition which has it built-in is the only way to officially access this content. Then there's the beast that is Web of Shadows. The game bombed and got spitroasted by critics upon release. This was the era of Spider-Man fatigue and it resulted in pretty no one but diehard fans were picking up this or the next few games. This one got it the worst because it was right after 3 which is what kicked off this era. The game's story really did not help being all about Venom and the black suit so soon after another game just did that. I actually remember having to go to multiple stores and hunt this one down with my mom only a few months after it came out, it was already rare back then.

Shattered Dimensions didn't get hit quite as hard but it still didn't sell that well. It became more sought after when the first Spider-Verse movie was announced to be in development. This game basically invented the Spider-Verse concept as we know it and was a direct inspiration for the creators of the film. That gave it a huge boost that Edge of Time didn't.

Edge of Time is sort of disowned and rarely acknowledged by anyone even though it's a sequel to SD. It's regarded as the prime example of what no to do with a time travel/multiverse Spider-Man story. What it lacks in cultural relevance and quality is made up for by the fact that it is actually genuinely locked on 7th gen consoles. It never got a PC port so the only way to play it is through emulation which is pretty wonky for that era still. I don't think the price for this one would be as high as the other 2 if not for that factor.

The Amazing games aren't as interesting. I don't think anyone really cares about this. They are unashamed tie-in slop with no love or passion behind them. Activision overproduced and overstocked them in stores to drive interest but it didn't work. These things still clutter up shelves to this day because there's just so many of them and the only people buying them are resellers that think Spider-Man is a magic ticket. They list them at absurd prices no one ever pays because these games hold no actual value. The only one that kind of does is the Vita version of the first game. All Vita games are considered rare because of how quickly that console died. There's still a lot of them but the supply is definitely starting to dry up.

As a bonus and to make this slightly on-topic, Ultimate Spider-Man is generally in the same position as Web of Shadows. It didn't bomb but didn't sell particularly well either. People skipped it and just waited for Spider-Man 3 instead. Very overlooked game that I'm happy to see is such demand these days.

Pretty sure the '90 cartoon invented it first. The very last storyline of the show was about multiple alt-universe Spideys joining together to stop a multiversal threat.

I appreciate the details that’s pretty thorough ty!

Yes the 90s cartoon did do the multiverse thing. I watched the whole series during covid and I think that was the final season? I could be wrong tho but it was towards the end if it wasn’t the last part. Most of the cartoon was adaptations of the comics so I’m assuming that they pulled that from a comic too. If not, that’s about the only “original” thing they did as every other “part” seemed to be directly inspired by the comics. I know a lot of people didn’t like the clone saga but I did. I would’ve loved to have seen that adapted but the two people in charge had a hissy fit fight so the series just got canceled even tho it was pulling in big ratings from the research I did after why the cartoon ended so abruptly. In that specific cartoon, they could’ve really done justice to the clone saga having Kain, the Jackal, all the cool clones especially Ben Reilly and Spidercide but alas it didn’t happen because of literally two shitheads or one trying to take control. I can’t remember the details I just remember it came down to two people pulling in different directions from what I remember reading.

It’s funny you bring up Ultimate Spiderman. I recently hooked up my modded original xbox and the game was just there. I have zero recollection of ever burning it to my hard drive the only thing I can think of is that a friend in my circle back then put it on there but man I have no memory of it or any of my friends ever playing it. I booted it up and tried it out, I just don’t like the look compared to Spiderman 2 but I’ll give it an honest try sometime soon. It’s just so weird how it’s just there and I have no recollection of the game even coming out. I remember the comic distinctly tho because I passed it by when it launched thinking nothing of it just yet another retelling and then it blew up and the #1’s became worth some money and I was pissed because I could’ve picked up plenty of copies. Samething happened w the new 52 Batman relaunch again I could’ve bought a ton of copies for cheap and the price shot up shortly after although checking it recently prices came waaaaay down. I missed the absolute Batman train as well at first but have a massive collection of that just not the first print #1 which is way off topic now.

To my knowledge, Spidey was axed simply because Pokemon was in full swing and all the other networks were changing up their whole schedules to compete. "Spider Wars" and the Secret Wars adaptation that preceded it was the show's staff deciding to go all-out on fanservice as a final treat for the viewers who stuck it out for five whole seasons.

Good overall. Difficulty spikes though

Bad overall. Only good for swinging aimlessly

Combat is shit but fun sometimes

Go check into it. From the source I read which I no longer have at the moment said it would’ve gone on longer but some chick I think it was got promoted and bumped heads w the guy in charge of the show. I wish I could find the link off hand, but I am almost positive the show would’ve continued adapting comic arcs if it hadn’t been for her. This was years ago that I looked into it so I could be wrong or the source was full of shit but given how popular it was it did seem stupid to discontinue it at that particular moment. Either way, I wish it would’ve continued or they’d bring it back ala x-men 97 and adapt the clone story line because I loved it.
>>
>>12488935
All I saw was the networks trying to stand up to Pokemon and cannibalizing all their current shows to try and find something to do it with. Spidey's crew would have known well in advance that they weren't getting renewed and would have been spending their remaining time deciding how to end the show instead of continuing it.

It's the opposite, PS3 used the spooderman font because Sony owned those films. People shat on PS3 for using it back in the day
>>
>>12486048
I like 'em... it's just a shame how we had a sort of "series" going with Spider-Man (PS1/GBC), Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro (PS1), Spider-Man 2: The Sinister Six (GBC) and Spider-Man: Mysterio's Menace (GBA) and that had to be cut short because of the films, I wish t had kept going.
>>
>>12487752
I've noticed quite a few Spiderman and Marvel game threads, is this the new "Just make a bunch of low effort Mortal Kombat threads" gimmick?
