>release game>it sold like shit>rerelease it with new features on another console>it sold like shit again>"come on Sega, put it on steam, surely it'll sell this time!"While it's true the game has been out long enough to attain "cult classic" status, I don't know why the publisher would have any reason to believe the results would be different a third time.
>>12486570Maybe they are doing it out of the good of their hearts?
Those 2 consoles in question were 1, a fucking commercial failure to the point that it caused SEGA to leave the console-making market and 2, a console that did little to appeal to JRPG fans outside of Tales of Symphonia and a few niche titles. Was the fault really with the fans or the fact that SEGA put them on the absolute worst places to expect a profit from? If Legends came out on PS2 instead of GC it probably would've made a decent bit of money instead of only selling like 50k copies.
>>12486604Why would that be true?OhOhhhhhhhh
>>12486570There was a PC port being planned but it got cancelled.
>>12486614It was an XBLA port, numbnuts.
Never heard of this game at the time, but apparently it's a cult classic for many people online.
>>12486609I mean a large general userbase helps but I meant more the fact that the PS2 was THE JRPG console, if you were a JRPG fan you had to own a PS2, end of story.
Aside from the endless random battles, which penalize you for escaping, it's a fun RPG. I didn't have a DC since mom got us a ps one so I've only played the gc version at the time.

>>12486642The encounter rate was twice as high on DC. Worse music quality on GC though, so there was a tradeoff either way.
>>12486662The game as a whole is just so plodding. The ship battles are an interesting idea, but they take an eternity watching your ships slowly maneuver around get and perform the same battle animations over and over again. Played Legends, not sure if those are any better/worse in the original. The encounter rate would be fine, but battles just take forever, even against fodder you run into when you’re just trying to fly from point A to B. Cant imagine the pain of battles being even more frequent.
>>12486676Battles were twice as frequent but gave half as much xp so you're about the same level in Legends as you would be at any point in the game in DC
>>12486662>The encounter rate was twice as high on DCThis has to be one of the most parroted pieces of vidya misinformation of all time. The IGN article for the Gamecube re-release erroneously claimed the encounter rate had been lowered, and everybody just went with it. I played both versions practically back to back in the early 2000s, and the encounter rate didn't feel different to me at all, but I figured that might just be my luck/perception.But now that the speedrunning community for the game is taking off, people have actually done diligent, long-term ccomparisons, and the encounter rates are identical.>>12486761>Battles were twice as frequent but gave half as much xpAlso not true. This claim was in that same IGN article that everyone is unknowingly quoting. The only difference in exp yield in the GC version is in the very first area of the game, and it's only for magic EXP, to make it more likely that either Vyse or Aika will learn the first cure spell before the boss.
>>12486570>put it on pc>it has denuvo>denuvo that never gets removed because japs still think that shit works
Skies of Arcadia is absolute dogshit and its only merits are purely cinematic insofar as copying the presentation style of OoT insofar as having scenes presented as "3D paintings" with abnormally animated characters for the period. The gameplay is utterly vile and repetitive, and the game design is basically just two hallways with a braindead toddler puzzle. It even copied the skullita collecting from oot. It's just oot with the gameplay gutted, and I dont even like oot. There's really nothing intelligent to be said about this slop, obviously no one is going to play it anyways, as that would be boring.
>it's the same avatarfagging tranny every time
>>12486570>I don't know why the publisher would have any reason to believe the results would be different a third time.well because at this point they aren't really looking for the same results. The game is already made, and they probably wouldn't be doing any new content. There're a decent amount of people interested in replaying the game, or playing it for the first time, and it's one of those rare games that just has no way to be played today besides the OG physical copies or emulation.>>12486915For a cult classic, it's weird that this game can inspire such vitriol. Did it really hurt you THAT badly?
>>12486921>For a cult classic, it's weird that this game can inspire such vitriolI typically would not care, but apparently I'm not allowed to discuss the games I want to discuss, so now I'm going to come into the 40 rpg threads and talk about why they don't deserve to be discussed. And everything I've said is rhe absolute truth. This game sucks absolute ass. I don't even know why it has combat, you do the same string of attacks every single fight and late game is stacked with infinite stun loops and insta death so you better not deviate. And that optimal attack string is absolutely loaded with unskippable and long cutscenes, so enjoy that. I feel this is entirely a game people are in love with the idea of, not the game itself. Just watch harloc or something, no reason to waste a month on a game that's 90% padding.
You literally only played western RPGslop until 2020 kek
>>12486928I have a physical copy of this game on gamecube, which i purchased on the day of its release. Would you like to see it?
>>12486642There's a romhack at least that allows you to stop random battles while holding down a button. But honestly I feel just being able to turn on or off battles if you are in areas you are over leveled in would make it much easier.
>>12486941If you're modding out the actual game part what are you even doing, at that point its just flying to points of interest and watching cutscenes like a ubisoft game. There is way too much obsession with aesthetic with people who have a superficial interest in retro games.
>only shmups are real games. mork said so. I am a hardcore gamer. man I'm nostalgic for when I was a fighting game oldfag when I started playing 5 years ago
>no one actually likes retro games but me. that's why I call them all shit and post modern indie game slop in my shmup spam general
>>12486952There's a functional and major difference between why old Mario games are good and sonic is absolute dogshit, and that's in the gameplay, and the nuance in how these games are coded and how levels are designed. Sega obsession stems from shallow hipster fascinations with aesthetic, which is ironic because sega's best games are arcade games, not sonic and rpgs, and their goal was always to make arcade games available at home, which is what the saturn and dreamcast were primarily designed for. The dreamcast is a literal arcade board stuffed into a console, it's a Naomi cabinet in all but name. If you ignore that you're not a real sega fan, just a retard. Sega was and still is an arcade company first and foremost.
>>12486949you still need to level up and play the actual game. It's just a pain in the ass to go back and do some side quests because you're spending minutes beating down enemies that pose zero threat to you and you can't runaway or it lowers your swashbuckler ranking. you can't get through the game removing combat and that hack doesn't. so I don't know what you're on about projecting that I want to replay the game with zero combat.
Caring only about aesthetics is collecting shitclears to posture as a hardcore gaymer and oldfag and spending the last few years obsessing over and hopping around different weeb subcultures like a tourist as penance for only playing rpgs all your life.
>>12486964>you still need to level up and play the actual gameThere's not really much to do in terms of leveling up, all you're really doing is insulating yourself from insta kills and nuking everything. So what does removing it really change? You already get an item to do that at midgame. The game is full of fake half baked ideas, like the pseudo morality system does almost nothing. I remember there being one tatooine rip off where you ride an alien thing, and it's all hyped up, and you only ride it for literally 5 seconds and never see it again. The whole game is stuff like that. It's like fake gameplay, it's just leading you around with jingling keys. It's like the Japanese equivalent of a bethesda game. Is anything I'm saying inaccurate? Clearly someone really wanted to have this discussion because they made this retarded bait thread and ensured nothing else getting attention was allowed to be discussed, so here I am having an honest and straight forward discussion with you about what the game is really like. And the truth is it's pretty crap and I'm not sure why an adult man would waste time playing it unless they didn't know any better.
>>12486959>arcade arcade arcade arcade>please view me as a god gamer
>>12486981You're not making any threads on decent games that aren't arcade games. All I see is intentional garbage seeking and it's not my job to spoonfeed you what to play, I play what currently interests me. You could have made a thread on a good dreamcast game but you made a dumb bait thread on slop instead.
>no one knows about the obscure games like Ikaruga. I am better than all of you
Do the portraits during ship combat count as "4 niggas in a row?"
>>12486976okay
>>12486976>so here I am having an honest and straight forward discussionNo, you admitted to being a seething tranny faggot who is shitting up the board because you can't spam your personal general anymore >>12486926
