Anon who started Dragon Warrior II recently here.
Ok Ok I was too quick to deem it easy, ALTHOUGH its difficulty seems to be different from the first game. Obviously the main difference is that more than 1 enemy can engage you, but being honest I still find most battles risk-free except for the multiple baboon, so far this group of enemies is risky as fuck and not in a fun way. Thet just keep dealing a lot of damage even if I buy the most expensive armor.
I guess I need a defense buff spell but I haven't learned it yet.
Anyway, so far I like DQ1 more. Somehow I feel it will be hard to surpass DQ1's simple, tight design.
>>
The difficulty curve is fucked and goes way up once you get the boat, even though the US version is still easier than the Famicom one.

Its nice youre playing dragon quest. Make your thread after you have beaten it because youre wasting my time preventing me from talking about it considering you dont even have all the party members yet.

You haven't seen anything yet.

DQ2 gets balls hard towards the end.

Children's game.
>>
>>12487435
honestly it evens out if you're not looking at a playthrough and you try to find the crests yourself. then you get to rhone and it's bullshit again. prince of cannock will always be absolutely fucking annoying to deal with though.

cast ice on baboon. win.

Yes video games are for kids, congrats on figuring that out
>>
>>12487562
Still haven't learned that spell.
I'll just keep dying until I reach an appropriate level, since DQ is at least nice enough to let you keep the exp points even if you die (which is one of the main reasons DQ is good)

>muh blog post part 2
fuck off
>>
honestly a way better experience just skipping 2 and going straight from 1 to 3. you dont lose anything important story wise and only play the actually well designed games instead of the blunder
>>
>>12487424
You're missing something important in your assessment.

This is the point where you're getting a third party member. These 4 baboons encounters are balanced around that.

nice, keep posting

I hate that because of the way enemies are grouped you can't focus fire them down the way you can in other jrpgs. It makes it harder than it needs to be.
>>

Bro you have never put effort into a video game even once in your life
>>
>>12487820
I do like that the early games don't have autotargeting though. Makes it feel more strategic.
>>
>>12487860
Do you mean how in the old games, targetting an enemy that had died this round would cause your character to attack the air and waste their turn? Because yeah I agree with you there. I liked that. What I meant in my post though was how specifically in DQ2 you will encounter battles like: Baboon, Baboon(2).
When you attack Baboon(2) your character will attack one of these two baboons, but it's random which one. So you can have two party members attack Baboon(2) and get unlucky where they'll attack different baboons. This just means you end up taking unnecessary damage in fights because you spread the damage out. That's what bugs me.
>>
>>12487781
I'm trying to get there, but the baboons are on the way to the castle.
Also, comedic that there's multiple anons really MAD about an on topic thread, of a game that's actually retro, too.
>>
>>12487897
It's the classic Wizardry formation system. The difference is just that DQ2 doesn't have your own party work the same way. In Wizardry your squishy mages would sit in the back being immune to physical attacks.
>>
>>12487424
I think the game intended that you get lost and level up while trying to figure out what to do.
>>
There's a lot of charming stuff in this game. You'll probably find more to like about it, whether you end up preferring it to the first game or not.
>>
>>12487520
Family game actually.
>>
>>12489901
No hes right, this game really is for little kids. Theres no way a grown man could enjoy it. This thread is kinda funny, but a little embarassing as well.
>>
>>12489915
I did both. Instead, you were seething about your family being poor and not affording more than 1 console. Nowadays, in your old age, you're still console warring.
>>
>>12489907
why are you even here?
>>
Opinions are opinions I guess. I always loved the first game even though a lot of people hate it.
