So the programmer for the Devil Summoners translation just decided to peace out and leave, apparently the other guy in the team is going to post their current progress, but as of the time of this post no patch or prepatched ROM has surfaced online. This leaves the spanish translation by GriffithVIII as the only currently active attempt to translate this game from japanese. So this got me curious, are there any other cases of untranslated japanese releases getting a non-english patch and that being the only way to play it outside of its original language?
Hopefully they post their work and someone else picks it up from there
>Surging Aura the last big game released for the MegaDrive in Japan before the platform was discontinued, runs on the same engine as Phantasy Star IV>Translation exists for French and Russian
>>12488631saw ppl talking about it on RGT and they said its a buggy mess
Beat me to it, I was going to say some French and German stuff, but I don't remember which and I think that those are delegated to games made in French/German
>>12488646RGT?Buggy mess, the game? I Just played it and didn't stumble on anything noticeable. I played Rev B if it makes a difference
>>12488650I think he means the cdromance forums after the name changewhere did you get the ISO?
>>12488654okay I checked it outhttps://w.atwiki.jp/gcmatome/pages/4595.html>Some changes affect the game balance itself, such as an extremely low chance of inflicting additional negative status effects with weapons and magic attacks, and the fact that human characters will always act last in battle if their speed ability is 25 or higher.>If you want to enjoy the original Devil Summoner on the Sega Saturn, even though it's a bit hard to get hold of, I recommend the Saturn Collection version or the Special Box version, which have these issues fixed.>However, there are just as many bugs that work to your advantage, such as obtaining multiple Dollycadmon or summoning both LAW and CHAOS attributes simultaneously, and these have not been fixed in the Saturn Collection version either.Rev B must be the version with the agility stat fixed because I can tell you I had agility 30 on Ray and she always acted first, in fact it was an essential part of my strategy since I went with Support spells for her and with both those things combined she could use reflecting spells at the start of every turn trivializing many tough bosseswith that said one might want to go for attacking spells for her instead of support spell;basically attacking spells make random encounters easier and support spells make bosses easier so it all depends on what you want to struggle with, and considering there are many more random encounters attacking might be preffered. Just don't go with the Healing spell route, that's objectively worse since she does get some healing spells either way and there are enough healing litems
>>12488681>>12488654anyway the point is if you play Rev B there doesn't seem to be much in the way of detrimental glitches. That atwiki site is usually very thorough.
>>12488681oh I thought you meant the translated ISO
>>12488609I believe the script of Mizzurna Falls was translated into english but there was tranny drama among the romhackers and a patch was stalled for years. The translator then decided to release the script. Some group translated it into spanish and made a patch before the english one was ready. Eventually an english patch was released.
If you want stupid translator stuff look no further than Legend of Xanadu games on PC Engine CD. Script has been hacked into the games for the last 10 years but because they wanted to do a English dub we haven't seen anything in ages.
>>12488983They wanted dubs because there's like over an hour of voiced cutscenes in both games and they had no means to subtitle these back then. Now Elmer is trying to add subtitles with Supper's help and hoping to see it done.
>>12488609>So this got me curious, are there any other cases of untranslated japanese releases getting a non-english patch and that being the only way to play it outside of its original language? From the top of my head both King of Fighters Kyo and Hokuto no Ken for the PS1 have non-english complete translations, also Suring Aura for the Mega Drive.
>>12489002Oops duplicate my KoF Kyo image by accident kek.
>>12488609is there a reason to care about these spinoffs? soul hackers was OK at best
>>12490027It reminded me of something like Suikoden 1 where it's good because it's short and not that ambitious and finishes before it wears out its welcome. And that's fine, I enjoyed it, but I don't see why someone would say it's a favorite except that a lot of kids played it on 3DS at the right age. If they'd put a Last Bible port on 3DS that would be popular instead.
>>12490001Devil Summoner is probably the last somewhat challenging game in the series. Recruiting demons is harder, making them listen to your commands isn't simple, and the dungeon design goes all the way with zones where the comp doesn't work, doors that are one way teleporters but only on one side of the door, dark zones and so forthIt's worth playing if you're a fan of the FC/SFC games. However for 6th gen onward megaten babies the game will probably make them cry and then they'll come with all sort of copes like calling the game a glitchfest like they do with Final Fantasy
