I have never been able to get into fighting games, especially 2d ones like SF and MK. Soulcaliber is the only one I was able to stomach for more than 3 matches in a row, but that game isn't very satisfying to play.

Am I retarded or just bad? If I had to describe my main issue is that the games feel too stiff maybe, like MK definitely does but something like MvC was pretty fluid and I still just can not get the hang of these games. It's not for lack of trying. I have played these games at the arcades for decades and had multiple home releases.

post fightin gaemz.

fighting games are a very niche genre just like afps or rts games. you play them because you want to play against other humans in a 1v1 environment, thats usually the main appeal. the game itself is just the vehicle if you will. its incredibly frustrating at first and very stressful in general so a lot of people avoid these genres. nothing wrong with that imho. also mk isnt really a fighting game, its way to out there with their retarded block mechanics and all the other stupid things they do so you shouldnt really compare mk with actual fighting games. its more like smash, being its own thing.

>Soulcaliber
Why is this spelling mistake so common?

Play a retard character

They probably think it's supposed to be like Excalibur.
>>
>>12490170
Because in speech the distinction between caliber and calibur doesn't exist.
In other words it doesn't matter, given that caliber is the modern common way of spelling it, it is only natural.

Having spent countless hours playing against the CPU in SF2 I don't think I missed out on much.
>>
>>12490095
The issue is all they have going for it are mechanics, no exploration or story. Of you dint have pure autism they are boring games.
>>

>the issue is all these games have going for them is gameplay, there's nothing to distract you like exploring boring environments or reading stories meant for ten year olds.
>>
>>12490586
yes thats exactly the reason why people can play something like sf2 for over 10000+ hours. Books are for story, not fucking video games. lol
>>
>>12490850
Yeah anon, thats why arcade are thriving and every best seller is a fighting game
>>
>>12490158
>fighting games are a very niche genre
Literally the most popular video game type of the 90s. Lurk moar.
>>
>>12490170
First time I've seen it actually

your abstract intuition is unlikely to be acknowledged here. most anons are meatheads that are going to talk over you with cliches rather than engaging with your post.

>game about mental stack in real time against another person
you're not retarded or bad. you are literally not playing the game you think you are. that's the weird itch that fighting games scratch you get into layers of gameplay that only come after understanding the surface level mechanics

you play with your friends and its either a complete sweep or mostly tied up whatever you try and get better.
you beat your friend ok sure yeah then go to locals and you get completely sweeped whatever you try and get better.
you play online worldwide with fightcade get fucking washed and regret every minute you spent with the game but keep getting better.
you start doing just absolutely ridiculous shit like you're taunt canceling moves only because it's a bug and doing suboptimal combos that juggle but do no damage because you think they look cool.
maybe you don't even win and you're literally just trying to style on your opponent and taunt 12 plus times in a match and only throw them.

it's a very unique genre of game that's hidden behind a design advertised as
>reduce your opponents health to zero before they do it to you
>>
>>12490095
I guess they don't appeal to you as much as you'd expect, which is normal.
>>
>>12491562
This is really retarded, if you think about it. Zangief is just spamming attacks. Almost a cheaty way to win.
>>
>>12492928
Welcome to SSF2T. Also it doesn't work with every character.
>>
>>12490095
The appeal varies from person to person. Some people like to skip neutral and get straight into turn based combos and knowledge checks. Personally I like more neutral play, it reminds me of something like chess or go. SF felt slow and unresponsive to me as well until I stopped mashing and took more of a methodical approach. It can be tough learning because you will get your ass kicked over and over again but the thrill of learning more and getting better outweighs that (to me at least)
>>
>>12492928
that clearly has some kind of turbo assistance.
>>
>>12493245
Fast tapping on arcade buttons is trivial, and that one seems to be done in real hardware. I'm not aware of arcade operators adding turbo to fighting game cabs anyway.
