Which is considered the best in the series?
The series? The series of 2 real games and like 1½ shit fake ones?
>>12492539EWJ2 for the PS1 and Saturn are the ones with the highest ratings on Backloggd. Personally I prefer the first game.
>>124925391 for gameplay, 2 for presentation (graphics/audio/just how technically impressive it is).2 would be better overall but at least half the game is Puppy Love and that flat out kills it. Also, it does not have a definitive version. SNES has the best backgrounds, Genesis has some extra effects no other port has (Villie People has a ripple effect), Saturn has incredible CD Audio but the backgrounds were changed out to be really really garish and ugly and flat out missing some effects, and PSX is just Saturn but graphically worse. For EWJ1 you can just go with Genesis, or if you want CD Audio and the bonus level, Sega CD.
>>12492539Even though I like EWJ2 more, I would have to go with EWJ1 just because like >>12492554said there's 3 Puppy Love levels and they drag on for quite a while, I feel like that filler was unnecessary, 1 level of it would have been enough.
>>12492539For me it's the PC port of Battle Arena Toshinden
1 > 2 >>>>>>>>>>>>> power gap >>>>>>>>>> dogshit >>>>>>>>>>>> 3the second game tries way too hard to be "le wacky randum xddd" and there's no cohesion between the levels, way too many dumb gimmicks, etc. it's not bad, but worse than 1
>>12492539The first one has the best gameplay
>>12492539i rented the games on SNES but my favorite is actually earthworm jim 3D i think. it's just an interesting game to explore. the snes games weren't bad at all but were a bit difficult and kind of dreary.
>>12492578Why no one has released an hack of the game that removes the other two puppy love levels, keeping only the most funny one of the three (at difficult level term)?
>>12492539The first one and only that one, 2 was too focused on mini games that it alienated everyone, unless that it turns out to be another one of those trannie induced revisionist hallucinations done by "internet critics", I remember being disappointed when I played EWJ2 years after it came out at least. The 3rd game isn't even worth talking.
>>12492554genesis ewj1 has idle animations sega cd ewj1 doesn't havefor some fucking reason
>>12492539The cartoon
>>12492667If you're going that route then I don't know how anybody is going to beat Sacrifice
>>12492539I really liked the first one (I played on SNES) even if it's clunky, couldn't stomach the second, never played the crappy-looking 3D one
>>12492554>picWhere did you get this? Is this an AI recreation? Looks pretty real though. But anyway yeah 2 is too gimmicky, maybe only 1/3 of the levels are the actual run and gun levels, the rest are all some meme shit. 1 is much more consistent, the best version of 1 is the PC version though, it has the best graphics and all bonus levels
>>12492840Most people dont know the pc version of 3D is an improved version and is worth trying.
Skullmonkeys is the true spiritual EWJ3.
>>12493215>improvedHow?
>>12493215I didn't even know there was a PC version, I played the first few parts of the N64 version a lot though because I owned it at one point. It was too hard for me as a kid to make it very far but has great graphics and fun mechanics/levels.
3D is overhated, the only bad thing about it is Porkboarding
Well knock me over with a feather! I was todsy years old when I learned Earthworm Jim was actually based on Dave Halverson, which now makes so much sense I don't know why it didn't seem obvious. From his attitude and catch phrases to the amount Gamefan fellated the game constantly. Pretty hilarious if you ask me.
>>12492539The first one on Genesis was the best overall. The second one was practically just a minigame tech demo, which wasn't as impressive on other systems anyway.
>get to "What the Heck?">funneled into area surrounded by spikes>some giant green gem spins in the air but you can only land on it and then fall off>try everything>die>return game for anothermy Earthworm Jim experience
>>124925391 and 2
>>124925392 Is too gimmicky and leaned way too hard into randumbThe thing with 1 is that despite being bizarrely funny you could simultaneously take it at face value. That, and the gameplay was more consistent. 2 was quite bad at this there's like a 4 level gap between Lorenzen's Soil and Udderly AbductedAlso this >>12493098
>>12494314You're supposed to run on top of the gem while it moves up
>>12492539Just be aware that the PC versions have re-recorded soundtracks that are way better and higher quality.
>>12494626Not him, but the first time I played EWJ1 I got stuck in that level because I didn't know you had to run on the gem. I eventually figured it out, and felt pretty stupid, so it's nice to know someone else got stuck
>>12493151>Where did you get this? Is this an AI recreation? Looks pretty real though. It's the original stock photo, "Two Holstein-friesian Cows In Field" by Peter Cade.
I somehow like EWJ2 more, despite Puppy Love. Yeah, it drags the game down, but the rest make up for it. I like how it has better animation, better weapons, the snot parachute is simpler than the helicopter, and the music is just so damn good. Moonlight Sonata and El Choclo please. Even Puppy Love has Tarantella Napoletana. And outside of Puppy Love, the game is far less annoying than EWJ1, EWJ1 has some retarded bullshit on every other level.>>12493218Best opinion in the thread so far.
