Why did 5-key Beatmania die? 7-key is too confusing... and the IIDX soundtrack has too much generic electronic bullshit, I like the hip-hop and funk vibes of the original
>7-key is too confusingfiltered7key replaced 5key because those extra two keys allow for many more patterns
>>12493002If anyone wants to play a cool retro rhythm game without spending any additional money, you can use this control scheme in pic related with an upside-down arcade stick. It's not perfect but it's a neat simulacrum.Play the PS1 versions and use RetroArch with 2 frames of runahead for virtually no input lag.
>>12493127btw, my own stick seems to have a closer distance to the buttons than this pic i got from the internet, so your mileage may vary though i'm pretty sure the turntable's pretty far from the buttons in real beatmania anyway
>>12493127Spoonfeed me some good arcade rhythm games. Also what is a good controller if I'm willing to spend the money.
>>12493168Depends on the gameFor a regular arcade stick, which isn't really a rhythm game controller but can be useful for some of them, just get a cheap $60 one and replace with Seimitsu parts later. I got the Mayflash F300.For 5key Beatmania, the only viable option seems to be the DJ Station Pro for the PS1. I don't have it, but I imagine it works on PC if you have an adapterFor 7key beatmania IIDX, there's a lot more options. There's the cheap official controllers for PS2, but they kinda suck, membrane buttons. There's also the much more expensive PhoenixWans, FPS and FP7, and ISTMall controllers.Taiko no Tatsujin, you have a lot of options. Low range is the Hori official tatacon, which sucks don't buy it. Mid-range you can get a TDC10 or IINE Pro Max, which are well-worth it. I use a TDC10 and it's great. Then at the high end there's a variety of arcade-size drums like the ZhongTaiko or TaikoForce. For DanceDanceRevolution and In The Groove, I use a $20 softpad but modded like this https://www.seandroms.com/ddr/ to have a wood base so it doesn't slip or scrunch up. Very usable and very cheap. Your next best option is the L-TEK, which is around $450 and is metal with metal contact sensors which may need to be modded to be more sensitive but is otherwise a great choice. Then you skyrocket up to the $1000+ range with arcade pads that use actual arcade sensors and are super heavy and have a bar.
