>tiny viewport
>low framerate
>shitty annoying music
Why is this game so fun and engaging? Like, it's legit good not because it's a FPS on the Genesis, but it's good despite being a FPS on the Genesis.
>>
>>12493676
Link up multiplayer is cool as fuck
>>
I actually enjoyed it more than even SNES Doomat the time. Being able to magdump as fast as you want feels satisfying as fuck. It's not particularly deep or challenging, but it's fun if you just wanna zip around dark mazes listening to aliens scream as you incinerate them.
>>
>>12493676
Was officially ported to STEAM a few months ago, it's pretty tight.

>tiny viewport
That's fine, it's wide enough horizontally, which is what matters the most. Also they compensated by giving you a huge real time minimap with enemy detector. That's an absolute fucking luxury feature for a retro FPS game.
>low framerate
Actually smoother than the brazilian Duke 3D on genesis or Wolf 3D on SNES.
>Why is this game so fun and engaging?
Good controls for a genesis game, great physics, great graphics and animations despite being limited to a tiny viewport, impressive enemy count, and just fun gameplay in general really. It's actually a huge improvement over Wolf 3D.

yeah, the only thing I really wish it had as a kid was a better way to strafe
made me jealous of the SNES' shoulder buttons, heh

With that said, I agree, the music is absolutely bad. Sadly that's the fate of every Accolade game. Killer gameplay, killer art, but lame as shit soundtrack. They should've borrowed some Ocean guy to do the soundtrack, they had the best musicians in the console gaming industry.

>SNES Doom
I am nostalgic for it because after playing Doom Shareware and Doom II in computer class with PC speaker beeps for sound, it was literally Doom at home with cool music and almost full Episode 2 and Episode 3. But on its own it's not very good. Shooting feels bad, psysics don't exist, framerate is too choppy, input delay is abysmal, enemies only have front facing sprites. Doom name basically carries it.
Zero Tolerance is fine on its own.
>>
>>12493712
Fuck this lazy cadgrab. They had all the time in the world to finish the ZT Ungerground levels and put them into the original game, and then finish the Beyond ZT game for a proper release. But no, here's your ROM of the original game and two prototype ROMs.

Similar situation, except I had the 32X version, which has its own issues. I was just happy as a kid to have Doom in any form. I sometimes fire the console poets just to experience them for a few levels, but yeah, they're pretty much obsolete.
>>
I wish there was a source port. Having to press two buttons to strafe is the shittiest control mechanism imaginable.
>>
>>12493905
Just map the combo to a separate input? Assuming you're emulating, of course.

>for a fucking game rom
>>
>>12494406
Funny thing is that it was freeware for some time, offered on the main dev website, until someone decided to make $$$ from it
>>
>>12493676
this is literally the only good Doom-but-not-Doom that was available on 16 bit consoles.

I remember also liking the SNES one where you shoot 3d Smiley Faces
>>
>>12493870
>>12494406
Uh oh, the resellers are gettin upset!
>>
>>12494485
ZT goes for about that much loose, and not that much more complete, dipshit. Nobody here gives a fuck about the resell value of an old Genesis FPS. They're complaining about the digital release being a no frills pair of ROMs. They didn't even try to get the two player feature to work. Technopop also had the games up on their site for FREE for the better part of two decades, before Piko somehow got the rights to them.
>>
>>12493687
Was there an official cable sold for this or were you just expected to hobble together your own?

They were offered for free from Technopop, if I remember right. You just paid shipping and handling. They're essentially just double-ended female controller sockets.
>>
Fun game but you can snipe enemies safely from the distance when they're literally just a single pixel, which kinda defeats the point of the game.

Fuck the later alien mazes in which there is basically no ammo whatsoever. I had to die and use a character with good melee.
>>
>>12494563
The third episode with the maze levels is the best though
>>
>>12493676
It's a solid shooter for the hardware. Yeah, small viewport and low framerate, but that's doing an FPS on a 16-bit console for you.
Also, it has an excellent attention to detail, the devs really tried to think of all kinds of things to add little bits of novelty for the format. I always thought the rooftop snipers in the sky texture was a really brilliant little trick.

>>12493702
I really like that you can fire most weapons about as fast as you can tap the button.

>>12493874
32X Doom has the fart music, but the controls are pretty good IMO, and it has pretty good framerate.
>>
>>12493676
You can always go worse when designing a console FPS.
>>
>>12496260
This is just a bad port of a computer dungeon crawler game designed for mouse and keyboard.
>>
>>12494508
>2 player mode
Oh, right, that thing that next to nobody fucking did since it required two copies of the game and a link cable, you fucking dumb turbo-nigger? What a tragedy.
>>
>>12496368
And your point is? They took what was essentially freeware, bundled it with an emulator, then added nothing of value in the process. You're defending the right to pay for mediocrity. At least fucking believe in the bullshit you're saying if you're gonna post.
>>
>>12496260
Major System Shock vibes
>>
>>12494485
Zero Tolerance sold reasonably well but doesn't have a big lingering demand, so physical copies are not hard to find and don't cost much.
This would have zero impact on its pricing and availability.

>>12496406
>the right to pay for mediocrity
I think that in general, such things can be acceptable as a convenience if they're REALLY cheap. Basically what Nintendo's Virtual Consol used to be in the 2000s and 2010s.

By that, I don't mean $10+ cheap, I mean like, $2.50 at most. It's a super old game and you put barely any work into it, but here it is and you can just play it.
For $11, it should be feature complete and packed with content, like having working multiplayer, the sequel campaign should be finished, and they should throw in at least a short extra campaign as a bonus. Maybe also the beta player characters as an option.
>>
>>12493676
Will anyone ever port this motherfucker to doom or even ECwolf?
>>
>>12496764
ECWolf would probably be more suitable, but I forgot if it could do stuff like jumping, crouching, and sloped staircases.
>>
>>12496884
recently chasm made a wolfenstein TC
>>
>>12496902
That sounds fucking sick.
