They aren't even remotely similar but Half-Life is not just the better game but one of the genuine GOATs.
>>
>>12494267
I'll take the one that doesn't run at 2 fps.
>>
>11 minutes into a level
>something goes wrong
>"Objective Failed!"
>gotta restart from the beginning because all objectives must succeed exact as scripted for the level to complete
Perfect Dark was one of Roberta Williams' last games... "you didnt play how i wanted you to!? better restart the game!!"
>>
Just because it has quicksaves I'm picking Half Life. But Perfect Dark is much more fun with way better level design.
>>
>>12494267
I love Perfect Dark, still play the Combat Simulator to this day, but it doesn compare to Half-Life, retro PC FPS will always be better than retro console FPS.

learn to face the consequences of your failure, faggot
God forbid not every game is made with the lowest common denominator in mind
>>
>>12494435
Then is every 90s PC shooter for the lowest common denominator? They all let you save whenever you want.
>>
>>12494452
Does every '90s FPS also have objectives that you're too fucking stupid to complete? No. I have no sympathy for your whiny scrub ass.

post deathless run shitter
>>
>>12494463
fucker, you're the one bitching about how difficult Perfect Dark is and needing save states to complete a mission
post a fucking vid of your own ass playing and maybe we can figure out what the hell is wrong with you

>start game
>long walking simulator sequence with pretentious developer credits like it's a deep and serious movie
Half-Soi loses just for that
>>
>>12494267
Perfect Dark is better. Half-Life is too gay and scripted.
>>
I played PD recently, an unofficial PC port. It's good but nowhere close to HL.

How embarrassing!
It's not fun to play carefully for 10+ minutes only for some random grenade from an enemy to destroy a necessary component of an objective, forcing a restart from the beginning. It wasn't fun in Control for Goldeneye, so I don't know why Rare thought that the entire PD game should be like Control.

There's also the fact that the game wildly fluctuates between 5-20 fps while also demanding pinpoint accuracy with the N64 controller due to making autoaim worthless on Perfect Agent difficulty... but whenever I bring that up I realize that the person defending PD has only ever played with a KB+M at a consistent and high framerate at resolutions exceeding what the N64 was capable of (even with the Hi-Res mode enabled).
Imagine defending a game when you can only play a hacked and cheated version of it made by fans.

I bought it new at launch. I also own it on an Xbone, but prefer the N64 version, simply because I prefer it's controller while playing. I do apologize if you were being genuine about finding PD difficult. There are just too many anons posting in bad faith on this board. Do you recall what control scheme you used when playing? I've found that can make a night and day difference in how difficult both Goldeneye and PD are for a player.

This is easy. Perfect Dark!

Half Life, never played the left so i'm pretty biased here.

The better question is: Opposing Force or Blue Shift?

>>12494435
There is some objective bullshit in PD. In the first two levels, when you have to take those hostages to complete your objectives, you have absolutely no way of knowing ahead of time that two of them are going to fuck you over and force a restart.
>>
>>12496850
PD isn't meant to be won on the first time with a blind playthrough. It is paced the same as goldeneye where easy mode just has you just fight to the level exit and 007 mode has secondary objectives, stealth, and failure states.

>game wildly fluctuates between 5-20 fps while also demanding pinpoint accuracy with the N64 controller due to making autoaim worthless on Perfect Agent difficulty
That's why you slice the pie around corners.

>manchild lashing out in anger thinks "lowest common denominator" play mature shooter games that give the player freedom instead of playing baby rail shit that only wants you to play a specific way
lol
lmao

>Opposing Force or Blue Shift?
I didn't know there was any debate there, I thought Opposing Force was considered the better expansion. I still had fun with Blue Shift, but it felt more like a side story with nothing new while OpFor was spooky as hell and really nailed the feeling of Black Mesa falling apart. My main complaint is that the Race X stuff feels so unexplained in the overall story.
>>
>>12496894
Half-Life is linear as fuck, lmao
Blue Shift would literally lock the door behind you as you progressed so you couldn't go back
you can only get so far by assuming they haven't played HL before
you don't have to hype up one game to tear down another, anon
>>
>>12496906
>I didn't know there was any debate there
There's some. Opposing Force has a lot of faults, namely the game retreads a lot of things in the original Half-Life (like the Pit Worm is just a complete rip-off of the Tentacle boss from the base game), the game adds in a bunch of unbalanced and redundant weapons, most of the new enemies are forgettable, the story is a complete afterthought and ends with you fighting a giant space bug in a place that's going to get nuked anyway in five minutes, the level design isn't nearly as fun as the base game's, and the whole idea of the player being one of the bad guys is dropped immediately so that Shephard isn't an unlikable protag.
>>
>>12494356
Dunno if any other level has this, but I like that area 51 part 2 will say "objective failed" if the crate is destroyed, but then revert back to incomplete if you use a dragon as an explosive against the wall instead.

I own the original cartridge which I've played a shitton back then, but I'll probably never play it again now that the PC port exists
>>
>>12494267
PD, its not even close.
>>
HL, its not even close.

PD, but it's close

HL, but it's still not close
