I know this is bait but i will save this thread anyways.
>Was it really scary
Its the scariest of the PS1 trilogy
>you were just a kid
Played them all as an adult
>only the scariest because you played it first
Nope. Played RE2 then RE3 and ended on RE1. I know weird order but I couldn't get into the controls of RE1 and skipped to 2. Then by the time I finished 2&3 I was so used to the tank movement I had zero issue going back.
>scariest game on the ps1?
While the mansion can be unsettling the absolute spookiest game I have played on the ps1 was by far Silent Hill.

2 and 1 have the same traction style controls though

Honestly I just needed to keep at it to git gud at the controls but being impatient skipped ahead instead. Playing the opening of RE2 with the city burning and zombies everywhere made it hard to put down so I kept at it.

tre/vr/ wouldn't say this

It was kinda scary to people who had never played a realtime horror game, yeah. Some stuff was goofy, but it adds up to a functioning B-horror vibe.

The game tries to build tension with long quiet moments, and ambushing you at times, so it's a very different pace for people used just to action.

>amnesia
Wouldn't exist for many years, and Fatal Frame also came later, I think.

Man I wish we had actual moderation on /vr/ like the good old days

Same. Sharteens should be murdered in pogroms.

Resident Evil was never scary and that's fine. RE7 went 100 miles out of its way to be a capital-H Horror game and all the elements serving that purpose make it a lesser game.

not retro

Retro games aren't scary. You need to mention a non-retro game to draw a comparison.

>>12494676
maybe you should mention that on /v/

It was pretty scary because it had a very sinister atmosphere - the music was pretty dramatic.
Crazy cool game back then.
