There's no way to make shooting as engaging as in 2D; if you had to manually aim in first person, it'd be annoying, especially while platforming. If you have lock-on, it's boring; if you have no lock-on and no first person, it's inconsistent and hard to hit anything. The classic/X formula genuinely cannot work in 3D and I shit you not, X7 is actually a rather solid attempt at trying to make it work while still making it feel like Mega Man, unlike something like Legends.Just try it yourself, it's not a long game and you're pirating it anyway. Shitting on X7 is like beating a horse at this point; I prefer to think about the good aspects and its development history.

If it was just a matter of the stuff like X not being playable from the start, sure, but it has to at least have a decent skeleton which X7 just doesn't have.

I think using some nuance is better than just spamming the usual "it fucking sucks" in every thread about it. Most people call it broken and outright unplayable when it's just extremely middling and cheap-feeling. Again, I'm not trying to argue it's something it's not, nor claiming it wasn't a mistake. There's certainly worse games, but i would say it is absolutely the worst out of the Classic and X series, and the only entry that I would say is mediocre by the standards of regular action games (because as far as the C/X series goes, even the supposedly "bad" entries are only "bad" by the standards of the series itself, which would still place them above the vast majority of other action games).
