I see people act like this isn't only the best Mega Man game, but the best NES game and one of the best platformer games of all time, and I'm just like... how??????I would easily take Mega Man 3 and 4, or even 1 over this. >Metal Blade completely obsoletes every weapon in the entire game, even for boss weaknesses. It's strong against every enemy and boss in the game, has massive damage, high rate of fire, high projectile speed, massive hitbox, can be fired straight in any direction or diagonally, and to top it all off the ammo cost is minuscule. There is literally no reason to use buster or any other weapon ever>designed and tested in just 3 months and it shows>tons of bugs, jank, and inaccurate hitboxes >bosses have sloppy patterns and attacks have huge hitboxes and largely just involve facetanking and outdamaging them>level design just feels nonsensical at times, garish designs and colors, they don't flow well, multiple sections are just repeated multiple times, and it loves to just spam you with a ton of big bullet sponge enemies >traversal items all feel like shit and God forbid you ever run out of energy, you are forced to either slowly farm drops or suicide multiple times to game over because the game has no way to quit the stage>introduces the worst mechanic to Mega Man, the E-Tank. Who needs good level and boss design when you can just say "oh well it was designed around you having 10 health bars"4>3>1>2>6>5I stand by it. Beat them all on original hardware no guides, and I just do not get the MM2 dickriding.
>>12495598It's fun.
>>12495601Mega Man 1, 3, and 4 are significantly more fun.Mega Man 2 is the most jank, unbalanced, and has some of the weakest level design aside from the C-team intern developed 5 and 6.
>>12495598You could play and beat the other five Megaman games in the time it takes for one boss health bar to fill up in 4.
>>12495598charge shot ruins megaman by making it so instead of using boss weapons to get through levels you just spam charge shots>but metal bladeyeah they fucked that up but it's not an inherant design flaw that ruins the whole point of the game (using your boss weapons to get through tough stages more easily), just a weapon they didn't balance right and you can technically put off getting it until the endgame>so instantly every megaman game with a charge shot (IE not the first 3) is a shit game where you spam charge shotsof these three, megaman 1 is jank as fuck in terms of design and megaman 3 just kind of runs like shit with constant slowdowns, megaman 2 has way more polish and then okusenman made it a legend in internet culture. hope this helps OPTLDR: it's fun
>>12495606Most people won't even realize. It's like 2 seconds longer and there is a romhack that fixes it. Funny how /vr/ praises RE1 door opening despite that being significantly longer and much more frequent.
>>12495609MM4 has some of the best weapon balance and every weapon has a niche, I feel like I hardly ever used weapons on stages outside of MM4. Charge shot is good, but it's not universal, you still use regular shots a ton of times in the stages due to regular enemies not having i-frames. Also 4 has by far the best level design in the series, really creative and unique stages, and it's also one of the hardest series without ever feeling unfair (and Wily's Castle isn't a total joke like 3)Meanwhile Metal Blade is far stronger than charge shot against both enemies and bosses, there is no reason to use ANYTHING else. It's basically buster shot except like 3x stronger and can be shot up and diagonally. MM3 slowdown is really not that bad, it's a couple spots in a couple stages and that's it. Plus romhacks and emulator overclock have been a thing for decades.
>>12495609>charge shot is better in some situations, regular shot is useful through stages, many other subweapons serve a niche, and boss weaknesses are still rewardedThis is bad, unplayable shit design.>Metal Blade is just buster but better in every possible way, will essentially never run out of energy unless you deliberately sit there and try to run out, destroys bosses better than actual weaknesses, and no other subweapon in the game even serves a purposeThis is fine, masterpiece btwWhy do so many fucking retards post on /vr/
>>12495619Charge shot is literally always useful. It was a mistake.
>>12495598>its the one i had growing up>god tier music>its short and funmega man 3 to me felt glitchy and like it overstayed its welcome. i prefer 2 and x1. those are usually the mega manes i replay the most often, and then sometimes 8 and x4.
>>12495619>>12495618yeah again that's all cool and all but the entire point of megaman was>your starting gun sucks, get guns that are good by beating bosses, figure out a good order to use good guns to get other good guns that are good elsewhereand being able to go>actually your starting gun is just fine if you're willing to sit there and charge shot behind cover before leaping outcompletely buttfucks the flow the game and means only speedrunners are actually going to care about knowing that "ou still use regular shots a ton of times in the stages due to regular enemies not having i-frames". the intended audience of megaman is fucking kids which is why they asked them to submit boss designs
>>12495598Could be a thing they call the "virgin effect", where the piece of media you were introduced to is the one you're closest to.MM2 was the first one I played, but I also enjoyed MM1 and MM3. MM4-6 I didn't care for so much and my favorite is MM2, so it could just be that.
>>12495629The starting buster has always been fine, and 9/10 it's the best weapon against a boss if you don't have their weakness. I don't think the Simon Says weakness shit honestly ever added much to the game. Mega Man 4 has the best balance between regular shot, charge shot, utility weapons, and weakness weapons. I found myself using a ton of different weapons in Mega Man 4, meanwhile Saw Blade in MM2 just eviscerates everything in the game and requires zero skill to use. At least with charge shot, there is risk/reward and a lot of emphasis put on accurate shot placement (which is also why charge shot is not always best even for bosses)
>>12495637>The starting buster has always been finein mm2 there are a bunch of enemies that take forever to kill with it and yet die in 1-2 hits of the right boss weapon on difficult/jp release. metal blade is good against everything but it's almost never the best against something so you're instance on talking about a weapon that could be fixed with a fucking romhack is pretty goofy
>>12495642Metal Blade is by far the best not just for damage, but because it has high rate of fire, high projectile speed, massive hitbox, can be fired straight in any direction or diagonally, and to top it all off the ammo cost is minuscule. It's braindead easy to use, is completely universal, and is strong as fuck, you can just spam it all over the screen and it hits everything with ease. No one is changing to some shitty awkward weapon with a weird trajectory or missile type, just because >well technically it can kill one specific enemy a couple frames faster if you use it in this one specific way.MM2 is just a rushed piece of shit, weapon balance nonexistent, stage design feels randomly generated, giant bullet sponges just copy-pasted everywhere that respawn as soon as you turn your back, and bugs and broken hitboxes abound.Seriously feels like a psyop how much this game gets dickrided
>>12495647That's nice dear, just don't use it then.
>>12495659The issue is the bosses are very sloppy with massive hitboxes and poor telegraphing and the levels are filled with massive bullet sponges. There is no happy medium, the design just sucks compared to 3 and 4
>>12495664None of those are true though.
>>12495598>Metal Blade>strong against every enemy and boss in the gameUhhhAir Man, Crash Man, Quick Man, the dragon, and Guts Tank are all 100% immune to Metal Blade
>>12495674Plus I remember a decent amount of regular enemies being immune to it
They're all great, but 6 is the best and if you disagree you're a disingenuous cuckhold. The games improved as they went, with only 5 being a slight step backward due to the bizarre decision to drown the player in extra lives.
The metal blade being broken is the reason why mega man 2 is so fun
>>12495602Nope. MM2 is more fun.
>>12495598>metal blade was too funyeah that’s why people like it, dumbass
>>12496712>Metal Blade trivializes the entire game making it braindead >even has baby difficulty >introduces the ultimate casual baby tool in e-tanksYep, it's pretty funny how fan favorites just tend to be the most easy and casualized entries
>>12495598MM2 was released at the right time for peak NES popularity in the USA, and was played/noticed more.
>>12496768You gonna spend another day crying about entirely optional mechanics on two different boards?
Mega Man 2 is accessible and memorable for a number of reasons, it's more than just "the player power trips on using the metal blades", and the banging soundtrack does a great job of enforcing the memorable experiences.Riding the conveyors in Crash Man's stage as you climb that tower, crossing the disappearing blocks (or cheesing them with Item 2) in Heat Man's stage, the quick beam traps in Quick Man's stage, the underwater spike ceilings in Bubble Man's stage, and each individual boss fight are among the things that stick out in a first-time player's mind.Making these individually memorable moments is part of what they successfully captured in Mega Man 9, and why that game became so successful (atop of its superb weapon balancing and also great soundtrack).Back to accessibility, the lack of sliding and buster charging, are also why 2 is often quite popular. It is less for the layman player to juggle and learn, but it also lets the game design enforce level design around those exact limitations, and is something they chose to do once more for Mega Man 9.
>>12495598I liked how majority of the weapons were fun to use for anything else than just killing a specific boss. Not many MM games have that.
>>12496938Mega Man 4 does a fantastic job of this, way better than Mega Man 2
>>12496897>these super generic bossfights and shitty stages full of bullet sponge enemies and nonsensical design that feel extremely rushed at best and randomly generated at worst>that's why it's so good and memorable Nigga just typing shit
I like Mega Man 2. It’s fun. :)
>>12495598I was ostracized as a boy because I wanted to play mega man on the playground but everyone else wanted to play DBZ (gay) Power Rangers (banned by principal) or Halo (mega man lite). I grew up socially maladjusted and isolated but I still play Mega Man
>>12496996Nah I think I'll just use charge shot.
>>12497014i will send my brain back in time and play with u by tucking my hand into my hoodie so i have a megabuster
>>12497002Nobody will ever take you seriously if you cry about "bullet sponge enemies" in MM2 of all games.
>>12495719WoodMan's stage enemies are mostly immune to the Metal Blade, except for the bats and rabbits.
>>12495598I liked it
>>12497275Pew pew woowoowoowoo pssswh
>>12495598Two reasons.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=opADNvgeZYYhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lsj0mY13t9s
>>12496117Yeah I always liked how unbalanced the game was, gave it sovl. Especially the boss weakness order being all over the place and total chaos compared to the other 5 games.
>>12496117The fact that it worked amazingly on 5 bosses made it the most useful weapon. Plus it was energy efficient and could be tossed at any random enemy as well.
>>12497507The game constantly spams giant fucking retard enemies with huge health bars at you one after another like those big walker enemies. It's lazy as fuck
This guy is insanely autistic please get a life
