Do you like Rayman 1?I’ve only played the PS1 version, but I’ve heard good things about the Redemption mod.Was the difficulty too extreme for what it was, or are people exaggerating?
>>12495608Probably one of the best platformers in existence. It really feels like an adventure through a mysterious world.
>>12495608It's not the difficulty that's the problem, it's that 100% every level is required to get to the final level. This is complete horseshit, because lives aren't limitless and can get scarce very quickly, especially as there is a difficulty spike later.
>>12495608The game is challenging and occasionally unfair, but it would be manageable with infinite lives. There are a lot of "die, learn, and then not die the next time" sections which are just bad game design in long games with limited lives
>>12495749What actually happens when you run out of lives and continues? Does your save get wiped?
>>12495749This isn't an issue. Play the Pink Plant Woods at least three-four times and you'll have at least 13-15 lives.>Grab all the Tings in the level, each three sections>Do the Magician's minigame until you can't pay for it anymore>Complete the levelI always did this when I started up the game so I could take on the later levels. Once you get good, you almost don't need them. Almost.
>>12496326>the Pink Plant Woods at least three-four times and you'll have at least 13-15 lives.Grinding lives is fucking dogshit gameplay though especially when a game has a bunch of gotcha moments and sometimes finicky controls that make you burn lives.>>12496163You have to start from your last save, that's it. You can only save before levels, which sometimes consist of up to 5 sub-levels.
>>12496335The first level doesn't have any gotcha moments. And once you play the levels, you learn what to look out for and you get better. Also known as playing the game. The controls aren't an issue either.Matter of fact, what version are you playing?
>>12495608No, it's very unbalanced and unfair.
>>12496351>The first level doesn't have any gotcha momentsI didn't claim it did.>The controls aren't an issue either. If you hold the "grab ring" button when you grab a ring, you immediately un-grab it and fall to your death. Instead you have to talk the button and let go. This is counter-intuitive and unlike pretty much any other "holding on" mechanic in any game. It's also pretty much impossible to get all of the tinks without a guide because for a some of them you have to walk to some far-off corner of the stage until a sound effect plays, and then backtrack to some unidentified position to collect them.Saturn version.
>>12496372>Saturn version.I don't know if that version had any issues but I wanted to play it because it had better effects and visuals from what I saw. >Instead you have to talk the button and let goYou never had to hold it, you punch the ring and you wait until you get to the other end and then jump off. >It's also pretty much impossible to get all of the tinks without a guide because for a some of them you have to walk to some far-off corner of the stage until a sound effect playsThe levels aren't gigantic, and if you wander in a corner, you're going to trigger an event that spawns tings, enemies or even a cage. The game encourages you to explore and rewards you aptly.
>>12496382>The levels aren't gigantic, and if you wander in a corner, you're going to trigger an event that spawns tings, enemies or even a cage. The point is there's no indication of where the cage appears. >You never had to hold it, you punch the ring and you wait until you get to the other end and then jump offYou misunderstood. For example, when I press a button to hold on to a ring, I hold it until I'm actually holding on the ring. But if you do this, you immediately drop off. What you are supposed to do is press the "punch" button one single time and not hold it, and that will allow you to hold on to the ring. Games usually have a buffer time of you press a button to hold on something -- this buffer time stops you from immediately canceling the action you intended to perform. Rayman doesn't have that. It's awkward and feels wrong.
>>12496363Play the jaguar version.
