What made FFX so special?
>>
>>12495779
Turn BASED combat instead AssTB combat
>>
>>12495779
The story is genuinely unique and fascinating.
>>
>>12495779
You grew up with it.

OK, OK, I'll admit the world, setting, and overall art style are pretty unique.
>>
good story good characters beautiful setting powerful ending and fun combat/progression system. aside from the lack of level design and world map its a perfect jrpg. if it had the same type of overworld, dungeons and postgame of dqviii it would be the height of the genre.

Aura defining soundtrack

Nothing.
The only good things in this game were
blizball
Auron
And Lulu boobs

I genuinely can’t tell why anyone likes it. I played through the whole thing many years after it came out, no nostalgia goggles, and it was the worst FF ever.

>Terrible characters with unconvincing relationships and godawful voice acting. >Those lame fucking temple puzzles.
>Boring straight line world that doesn’t make any sense for the story (unlike in FF13, yet subhumans complain about 13 and praise 10).
>Summon that is an insta win against every hard fight.
>Giant, tedious fucking grind to finish the sphere grid.
>Least fun side quests in human history to get the final weapons.
Seriously what smooth brain looked at the lightning dodging or the chocobo racing and said “yes the game is better thanks to these”

Blitzball was alright I guess

the graphics/characters and feeling of the world size. even just seeing the cutscenes of such high quality on a console was stunning to see when it was new. no one had really seen anything like it before then.
>>
>>12496220
No one likes Lightning, you'll just have to deal with that
>>
>>12495779
Fun combat, fun characters, fun story, fun setting, fantastic music and visuals. No other JRPG has grabbed me to the same extent.
>>
>>12496236
I do. FF13 is my favorite. All 3 of them, too. That opening beach scene in ff13-2 was magical, New Bodhum

i was having fun until this. it sucked away all desire to continue playing, and i just never picked it up again.

A rare example of a post-apocalyptic world that looked beautiful and serene, rather than a wasteland.

That's a good observation, I never thought of how rare it is.

People's first exposure to voice acted RPGs

Other than that, it's a basic jrpg and FF4, 6, and 7 are superior
>>
It's beautiful. The music can lull you into this morphine-like state of relaxation alongside the nice backgrounds.

I got it within a few weeks of it coming out; beaten it 4 or 5 times.
I don't like the voice acting mostly because it makes it so I can't mash through dialog quickly on a replay like you can in most text RPGs (I now play on PC and use the UnX mod that allows dialog and cutscene skip).
I MUCH preferred the ATB battle system. But this one is "snappy" and can be played around with though "strategies" usually just amount to using Quick Hit or spamming an Aeon's attack over and over.
I don't like that most non-boss, non-monster hunting encounters are easy as fuck and it's just a matter of switching to the character that one-shots that particular monster.
I don't like the mindless slogs like Macalania Woods and Thunder Plains.
The minigames all suck. Blitzball is deeper than it looks but you end up repeating the same procedure over and over to score.
I like it, 8.5/10. I pref 5, 7, 8, and 9.

The power of the emotion engine (it was the first fully voice FF and models that were closer to CGI than previous entries)

Couldn't even get through half of your post before deciding you are either a literal child or have the brain of one. I bet Harry Potter is your favorite book series.

First, you need to imagine playing this game in 2001.
Second... no... you can't imagine this. You had to be there and lived it. So you will never understand.
>>
>>12495779
It had one of the most fun FFX battle systems being turn based. The world was great and it was genuinely one of the best looking games graphically when it came out. It also had really good progression and lots of side content.
>>12495785
Actually the worst part of the game. Yuna's constant pauses while talking, Rikku being a spaz, and let's not forget the cringe laugh scene and Tidus's retarded daddy issues. Seymour sounding like a homosexual. It's just awful storywise.

-for many people ffx was their first ps2 game
-it was linear and showed insane graphics, which helped sell the hardware
-it was the first and last time final fantasy would have a good battle system
-tidus being a fish out of water in a new world made it easy for players to self insert
-yuna being a nothing character made it easy for girls to self insert into the love story

Personally I wish there was proper worldmap travel once you got the airship
>>
>>12496306
What awful fucking taste you have, is your name Galedog? You fucking faggot.
>>
>>12495779
I never understood why people love this game so much. It had pretty graphics for its time, and that's about all that was good about it. Older FF games were much more fun to actually play.
>>
>12498126
What a well thought out post with specific details not designed to bait people.
>>
>>12497454
I was there and it was overrated then.
>>12496116
While I generally like the soundtrack, the battle theme gets old fast. The screen shatter and bombastic opening notes is really grating.
>>
>>12497454
I actually ended up not finishing it the first time I played. I didn't fully grasp all the possibilities in combat, or the story. It was 20 years later when I gave it another play and fucking fell in love with it.
