Why doesn't this get much contrarianism hate?
>baby level easiness compared to brutally difficult predecessors
>lazy level design
>2D side scrolling graphics when everything else was using the highest levels of technology
>level system seems tacked on and too easy to spam
>too much back-tracking, not enough pay off
>classic 'illusion of choice' system
>not enough variety of weapons to justify its system
>the upside down level is padded filler
>padded length
>lousy story with a lack of engaging lore

The storytelling system of CV wouldn't improve until the Netflix show 25 years later.

I always had to blow on the cartridge to get this one to work once Dracula’s castle goes all topsy turvy

Because there's not much to hate.

Game for all his flaws, feel coherent and while is conroversial to claim is perfect, is easily a masterpiece.

Other castlevanias suffer from being on weaker systems than the psx, so they suffer from worse graphics and music and more limited space.

SOTN is just lucky enough the psx is more than enough for a 2D metroidvania, so they were able to make a game almost without limitations.

If your serious argument is that Castlevania needs to have good story or lore then I'm really questioning if you've actually played the games.

>coherent
Pretty much the last word I would've used to describe SotN. The game is anything BUT. It suffers from unbalanced kitchen sink design where tons of clashing mechanics were randomly thrown in with no rhyme or reason. Design-wise, the game works, but only barely

Because anyone with eyes and ears can see that no 2d game made before or since can touch it.

Castlevania plots have always been completely retarded nonsense, no one ever came to these games for the dumbass stories.

To actually answer your question though: immaculate pixel art, unforgettable music, heavily varied and distinct area themes, and satisfying character animations elevate it beyond its many, many shortcomings.

It actually is fucking dreadful when you analyze many parts of it individually. But just hopping around the castle slashing monsters and listening to dope music is a good experience. I always drop it once the inverted castle appears.

i for one appreciate the little additions to CV lore with each game. I don't have to read tons of inane text like in JRPGs. There's a long but coherent timeline that doesn't need to be muddied with a bunch of wordy bullshit.

game is basically an horror themed game.

It's coherent because all the monsters are basically monster from mythology or horror movies.

Game is packed with references to classical literature and horror cinema.

Alucard anus begs to differ

Kill yourself and kill 4chan for good

The only real complaint I have about this game is how piss easy it is, that's literally it. It's perfect other than that

I was on this board the day it started. I come off and on just to check on it. There is a thread like this every week or so. Yet here you are repeating the same thing and acting like it's an unusual take. You even talk and write exactly like everyone else in all those countless threads.

This could be said of a lot of threads up right now. Maybe the majority.

It does. You just don't hang out here enough.

I see contrarians say Circle of the Moon is better than Symphony of the Night all the time.

I'm a bit mixed on SotN. I played it and loved it and knew it was highly regarded. Every couple of years I'd play through it again and still enjoy it. I'd sometimes see people whining about it but not with any specific complaints. What really killed it for me was the randomiser. No matter the seed or the settings it still feels like I'm playing the exact same rigid game every time. It's made me enjoy it a lot less.

>game went full aestheticmaxxing
>game is full of jrpg elements
>game is clearly low in gameplay density
>WOW WHY IS IT SO EASY GUYS LISTEN IT"S EASSSYYYY ITS NOT EVEN HARD I CAN ACTUALLY BEAT IT WITHOUT SAVE SCUMMING!!!

why does this game make autists foam at the mouth?
