How come battle city feel closer to arcade and board games than modern videogames?
i dont know about the development, but ive spent a lot of time with these early namcot famicom games. seems like they were experimenting with how to do home games right. custom levels is a cool idea but not interesting in reality. i probably would have spent lots of time with it is i was a 6 year old japanese kid.
>>12497764it's not until 1987 that third party Famicom titles actually get good when they have decent cartridge hardware and enough programming experience.
>>12497764>not interesting in realityHow so? You can make levels to either challenge yourself or your friends.
>>12497773I enjoy the early ones, actually. battle city, druaga, and the penguin game.>>12497908meh, there’s enough variety in the premade levels that a custom map cant add a whole lot. its more just to dink around and show off what the fami can do.
>>12497773they start having 1 megabit ROMs and mappers during 86 and in fact the FDS first allowed more than simplistic arcade games
