Has anyone played Dragon Ball Z Super Saiya Densetsu? the Dragon Ball card games exclusive to Japan are amazing are there any games for learning Japanese? what games do you recommend for learning to read Japanese?
>>
Many people played it, it was one of the most popular ROMs at download sites and one of the first popular fan translations, I remember playing it in the year 2000

I thought the advent of AI would result in better bot threads, not worse ones.

I have not.

There are 3 Dragon Ball RPGs on the SNES and none of them cover the Cell saga, even though the saga was already complete by that point.
Why?
Did the games perform poorly?
Was the Cell saga a bad setting to have a RPG?
>>
I played all the FC/SFC Dragon Ball games as soon as I got into emulators in 1999. It's interesting looking back, DBZ was gaining popularity in the US right around the same time emulators were getting good so I think for a lot of us they sort of played into each other. Those games just straight up weren't that fun but they were immensely fascinating. I'll never forget loading up Super Butoden and wondering why Frieza was naked and if Gero was another old martial arts master like Roshi and if 16 was Recoome wearing different armor. It was all so mysterious at the time to me.

My best guess is that since SNES could already do fighting games they decided to go for Super Butoden instead of making another RPG on 16 bit.
They did DBZ III on Famicom which covers the android saga and just the beginning of Imperfect Cell.
Remember these games were being made in real time as the manga and anime was running weekly, so the game makers didn't really have a lot of material to adapt, and Cell is mostly just a very long (albeit awesome) fight/tournament against Cell and his Cell Jrs, not much else.
That's why Butoden 2 adapted the Cell Game but also incorporated original stories using movie characters. At the time, Toriyama was just starting the Boo saga. Same with Butoden 3, people wonder "why isn't Super or Kid Boo in it?" That's because they didn't exist yet when the game was made.
The game in the OP is an adaptation/remake of DBZ1 and 2 on famicom. The other 2 RPGs you mention I guess are the Super Gokuuden games, they are RPGs only in the combat aspect because otherwise it's more of a VN/quiz game, love them btw, I really wish they also did Cell and Boo saga

That was a developer choice.
Had they included the androids then it wouldn't be necessary to pad the game with OCs.

But that was already on Butoden 1.
But yeah I'm glad they went with the original stories because honestly they ate more interesting than the actual movie plot for the space pirates movie

Yes, it's pretty fun, but can get grindy and tedious in places. Play it at 2x speed (at least) whenever you're not doing anything important.
I wouldn't recommend using it to learn Japanese, it was fan translated years ago so you're not getting an experience you can only have by learning Japanese.

Played it? Kid I had the cartridge and took a drill to it so it would fit in my snes. When you do a fire ball graphics were on par with the anime, incredible game.

That's what you get from Jeets N Troons
>>
For me it's Dragon Ball 2 and 3, I like the adventure gameplay elements even if you're exploring first person mazes in a 96*32 window with a draw distance of just the tile you're standing on. Imagine trying to emulate this game on a GBA micro, it must be unplayable.

I think the manga was around the time Super Buu first appeared when Butouden 3 released, but yeah, it was just a quick cash grab since DBZ was at its peak popularity.
The Gokuden games came out pretty late in the SNES’s lifespan, so I doubt they sold very well.

I've always wondered if those games have alternative stories to the manga, kind of like how Super Saiya Densetsu has some what-if scenarios.
