Is the idea of seeing a game once limited only to being played on a TV from something you had to plug into the wall now being possible to play on a device you can take with you anywhere the same sensation as arcade games getting ported to console back in the day?

Since that's a 2DS XL, please hold Start and Select while booting your DS game. Wish they ported 2 and 3 to the DS too.

Given it was over 30 years ago this started happening and it was awesome then, just as arcade ports were awesome. More options is always good.

That's a little different since it's taking games you would play on a TV and making them portable. So the entire library has now become accessible on the go.

Honestly it's probably cooler.

This post probably sounded brilliant while you were stoned, OP.

When I was a kid I dreamed of a "console that can play every game of every console and even GAMECUBE"
Now my current computer does just that but I use it to shitfling on 4chins 80% of the time

I always preferred the opposite. I fucking hate playing on handhelds.

THPS1 being playable on N-gage was the dopest shit in the world to 12 year old me.

True say, man I wish I had got a Turbo Express back in the day. Handheld has always been by far my preference.

It took too long
You grew up
Sorry about that

Well I have handheld gaming PCs.

Though, honestly, I feel like native ports to PC are more interesting than just emulating console games on it. Like playing Shenmue's PC port on it.

While I'm too young for the arcade comparison, I loved seeing handheld ports of older games that were only on consoles. For me, it was more that I was never able to play my consoles as a kid due to school (only on holidays, so like 13 weeks out of a year) so my mum took them away and I always had handhelds with me so I was always waiting for the day there'd be a port of 6th gen games to a new handheld.

Super Mario 64 on a DS was cool as hell to me and I was desperately waiting for OOT and MM to be ported but I had to wait until the 3ds which was one of the first games I bought and actually finished, I had played it a lot as a kid but never finished it and was just waiting for the handheld port one day, surprised it happened. Learning the PSP had Dreamcast ports made me hope for an emulator but that never happened, and Metal Gear Solid 2/3 on the Vita was very cool back in 2012 (same with Snake Eater 3D) but by that point I wasn't as interested.

These days I don't care anymore, my phone can emulate the fucking Switch if I cared to and even that's redundant, it's just not the same anymore.

I'll always be grateful for the GBA SNES ports though, that was how I finished LTTP as a kid and I also think some of the NES GBC ports are pretty interesting, like DQ1/2/3 and Super Mario Bros Deluxe.

i felt this way about max payne on my andriod s8. being able to play max payne with those cheap chinese ipega controllers on the go was the coolest shit in the world to me.

the first day i got a smartphone i downloaded max payne on it and found it somewhat impressive since i'd played it on PCs that struggled to run it. but i didn't have a controller so i only played for a little while with the touch controls and got bored with the super overkill autoaim.

No because you arent taking these games anywhere the vast majority of people are just playing the game in their bed at home, which is something you could already do with a TV just now your screen is smaller and your formfactor is more uncomfortable. the Arcade to home console pipeline is actually cool because its a marked shift in the way people consume media.

Games like pokemon live by the portability and ability to go out in the world and interact with other people. Playing resident evil on a handheld is the same as playing it on a TV just your neck hurts now.

Its alot better if you get one of those plug in ones. Alot the games like automatically have the ps2 control scheme. Especially the gta ports, max payne. The emulators work pretty good too. Phones aren't too bad. Its not my main way but its fun to fire up pokemon rom hacks on the fly or something. Also epsxe is worth getting too if you have one of these remotes as well.
