Alright I've been playing Dagerfall Unity for like a total of two hours by now. I wanted to at least try the vanilla version first so I can actually talk about the game and not have my perception altered by fan content, but I'm about ready to tap out and just start modding the shit out of it. I can always just go and try vanilla afterwards, right?
oh definitely
If you didn't play in on DOS with all the gamebreaking bugs, you didn't beat the game.
>>12498615if you didn't neck yourself and fuck back to /v/ with this garbage zoomer souls meme, you didnt beat the game of life which you lost
>>12498606Daggerfall was made for a different generation with a different attention span so do whatever is necessary to keep your interest
>>12498634Yep. This guy definitely didn't beat the game.
>botfags derailing this thread alreadyi miss when /vr/ had janitors to delete troll posts
>>12498606Stay away from the DOS original version unless it is for curiosity, even bethesda itself is suggesting dfu with daggerfall free release because DOSDF is unstable at random, terminator future shock and skynet which are DF X engine 2.0 are better, Battlespire on the other hand needs a DFU treatment because even on a real DOS PC the game crashes because bethesda hung with it in a time when Windows executables was a thing, same goes to redguard, which by the way they could at least reach gavin to work on those. Also Vanilla DFU without mods is smooth, with hi res replacements, it puts MoMVIII into shame
>>12498606The original is pretty fun if you can handle some additional jank. See how long you can last with the default control scheme before you give in and switch over to mouse-look.
>>12498695>Vanilla DFU without mods is smoothYeah, that's what I've been playing. I've got no issues with the controls; It's really just the plainer parts of the gameplay for me. And some additional visual eyecandy to make use of the open world wouldn't hurt. I'm too used to modding bethesda games. I want to install the Climates and Calories mod, but I feel like that would ruin the "first time experience."
Ho Yeah!
I suggest that, as a starting point, you try the “Beginner’s Starter Set” modpack.https://www.nexusmods.com/games/daggerfallunity/collections/0jto6j/mods>The goal is to have an easy to install, vanilla+, completely stable mod list that new players who want to start modding DFU can try out to dip their toe into the waters before they start adding mods themselves.
>>12498636Anon. Daggerfall was a broken, buggy, tedious mess then and it's a broken buggy tedious mess now. Don't deny it. Standards for the genre were rock bottom back then and it shows.
It's definitely gotten better now that I'm playing it some more, but I still yearn for adding actual roads into the game. Will I be missing out on anything if I just start modding right now or should I just give it a day or two?
